Park Jin Young) 00 (19th) Syndare // Firefox AK - Heart Of Mine 00 (18th) Séyetana // Kalafina - to the beginning 00 (17th) Harmonica // PARRI$ - Nasty 00 (16th) FSR Rontvia // Theia - Roam FSR Rontvia's song in particular was a tough one to cut but we hope that's not too hard to swallow after we awarded them 18 points last month ;o Watch out for Theia becoming a Lorde-level superstar in Persephonia if she makes a commercial breakthrough in the near future xx Also a bit of a shame Lomaja's song wasn't sent in a weaker contest because we pretty much never vote for K-Pop but this one did deserve some points! Ah well. Here are the votes from the Persephonian televote, all very well earnt so we decided to write a couple of sentences for every one of them: 01 Florina // Foreign Air - Echo A cool lil indie jam, simple and catchy, yay ~ Very glad Florina have come back because that 'Janet' song was really not a good note to end on tbh :kink: 02 Fljótavík // Agnes Obel - Familiar A major improvement after coming just 24th in our semi-final 1 ranking :o Definitely a very subtle one and a grower but it did majorly click in the end, those strings and the pitched down chorus vocals :heart: 03 Pupok // Claudia Kane - Einstein Another one that had to grow a bit, but lovely vocals and production, a very moody and gothic feel which we like a lot. Why wasn't this the last Bond theme tbh :eyes: 04 Singerpurear // Kadie Elder - First Time He Kissed A Boy Have to support at least one of the Persephonian alumni x Pretty much as good as Scandipop gets here! Production very reminiscent of our other former entry 'Out Of Yourself' by Truls, really hoping this can do well in the final to make up for Kadie Elder's previous flop. 05 Mulgracia // Monarchy - Dance Like Hell Most points we have awarded to Mulgracia to date (although Kris Menace's 1 point was from him coming 10th but I digress). A brilliant comeback, so infectious <3 sounding very Inbetweeners soundtrack, it was just released a couple of years too late! 06 Trifoski // La Femme - Sphynx Great production and haunting vocals, also absolutely love the video :heart: Hope 152chris doesn't kill us too much if this ends up doing better than Vendredi Sur Mer. Speaking of which... 07 N DNTN // RAYE - Shhh I mean this will do better than La Femme anyway so don't kill us ok. x This is such a big improvement on 'Bet U Wish', female R&B in BJSC quite often goes in one ear and out the other but everything about this is absolutely killer. Slay. 08 Ultraviolenceland // Liv Dawson - Still Another country getting their highest points from us to date, this was such an unexpected sound from Ultraviolenceland but very much welcomed, silky smooth produx and a gorgeous chorus :wub: Surely this HAS to be a first top 10 for them?? 09 Dobago // T2Kazuya - Youth This is such a messy mishmash of nearly every genre of electronic music you can think of that feels like it shouldn't work but it really just DOES. Every individual part of it is pretty fab in its own right and it flows surprisingly well. The chiptune and hardcore parts in particular *.* 10 People's Independent State of Slutland // Ariel Pink - Not Enough Violence wd on your song not enough vaginas This is another brilliant entry from whatever this country is calling itself by the time these results are being announced, loving the lo-fi psychedelic vibes. Reminds us a lot of Animal Collective and even a hint of David Bowie in there maybe? Or are we way off ~ This was a good use of an AQ, hope it doesn't flop too hard. x 11 Cor Lupus // Nhato - WAY OF LIFE (feat. Sasi) And now the other autoqualifier (and another country with their most points from us ever), we were pretty blown away by this when it was a potential for Cor Lupus last month so very pleased it has made it to the contest now! Really hard hitting production and love the vocal style on this. Should have guessed that it was from Touhou when we first heard it, it has that frantic edge to it ~ definitely our new highlight of Cor Lupus' discography. 12 Terra Avium // daydreamer - Travelling Light Terra Avium are back on point in the last couple of contests, this is absolutely glorious. Kind of similar to 'Youth' except the different sections are spaced out better so it feels less disjointed (not that the disjointedness gets in the way of enjoyment of either song - they both kind of feel like listening to snippets from an EP that is packed with 4 or 5 different individually great songs haha). It starts a bit slowly but the vocal part and the piano outro are both absolutely gorgeous, and as for the BIG LOUD PART in between those... *.*.*.*.*.* a stunning video for this too! 13 Jadakissnia // MssingNo - Scope Taking our bronze medal for the second month in a row, Jadakissnia just keep delivering the goods! An artist we previously gave our top marks in Unknown Pleasures so it was nearly a given we'd love this too. Deliciously twisted vox (yassss at the unexpected return of TĀLĀ) and once again brilliant production, kind of PC Music vibes but a little bit darker. Should think this is a lock for top 5 at absolute minimum and almost surely at least top 2 but we're cheering this on for the win so we can start packing our bags for Nadallius 89! :wub: 15 Skall // Stupeflip - Stupeflip Vite !!! Skall getting our 15 points when people can be bothered to vote them through the semi-finals is an institution by this stage (this is now the fourth time in a row following The Very Best, Teengirl Fantasy and Bicep). They'll get our top marks again one day. In the meantime, this is exactly the kind of ~out there~ discovery which we absolutely live for in BJSC, so unique and mental and catchy *.* We never knew we wanted an angry French guy aggressively rapping at us in full mediaeval outfit until now. Slain. 18 Tinnmark // Wardruna - Odal And finally, this getting our top marks was never in doubt from the moment we first heard it (well, unless semi-final 2 were silly enough to let it DNQ but of course that thankfully didn't happen). Tinnmark have in fact somehow never made the top 3 in our final votes before, but WHAT a song to finally break through to our medal positions with!! This is just such a stunning and overpowering track, every time those epic vocal sections kick in... just floored by it. As we said before it's kind of like a much, much darker version of 'Ilumbarada', absolutely going straight to our top few entries of the whole year and we really hope this can pick up enough support to be a decent hit for Tinnmark again because lord knows they need one after the pain of 5 consecutive DNQs. Not that those weren't entirely deserved DNQs... 'Sangen Du Hater' is actually probably in my top 3 WORST entries of the year, from that to this surely must be the single biggest improvement between two consecutive entries by a country in the history of this contest. But let's not be negative here. It took me a while but you've done it in style by ending up in my top 3! Like Ortiga last month, this is another captivating piece of World Music. To be more specific, we have dark folk with this song, and what an intriguing genre that already seems to be. This is just absolutely gripping from start to finish. But what secured the place in this top 3 the most were THOSE VOCALS. They just give me chills every time, just a magical explosion of sudden passion. Congrats on making it in here for the first time, I really hope this can storm its way into the top 10! 15 @Trifoski: La Femme - “Sphynx” - There was almost nothing in this top two and this probably would have been my 18 a few other months. I considered swapping them around but ultimately on the final listen I stuck with this top two. Still, I can say that I am absolutely obsessed with this at the moment to the extent of wishing I could give two 18s. Alas that was not to be but Trifoski end up with the most points ever to date from me! This is just excellent - both the song and the video (very artistic!) are so exciting so it's always such a thrilling experience to listen to this. THOSE synths are to die for and the French vocals are also fantastic. Incredible package that needs to smash somehow. BJSC don't underrate this Trifoski masterpiece please!! 18 @Persephonia: Øfdream - "Thelema" - So the country that pipped Trifoski to the top is one who is no stranger to my top points! Persephonia receive their first 18 from us this year but their third in total after us giving one to 'Habib Galbi' and 'Waves' last year. This is just SO ME it's unreal. I've expressed that 'WVFFLIFE (CHVRN Remix)' is my favourite entry of mine this year and this is the closest thing to that, that's been entered here. That witch house / trap combination is one of the most exciting musical combinations I can think of. I've also been way more into instrumentals this year too. So these are all a perfect mixture for something that I would love. This is so slick and a bit spooky at the same time as witch house usually is. I feel like this is going to be pretty underrated in the final (though yassss for the qualification *.*) but at least you do have a very big fan in me!
