January 23, 20178 yr I find this batch more middle of the road than last year, nothing as bad as Matthew (and Dulcima to an extent) but nothing as good as Joe and Jake (and Darline to an extent). Olivia remains my favourite song, I think Lucie would get the best result at Eurovision. The MOR pop genre is always the busiest at Eurovision whether male or female or uptempo or midtempo, and none of our MOR pop is better than what 75% of the other countries will bring in that genre. Lucie at least stands out with its musical theatre influenced sound and could go top 10 with juries if she pulls it off as well as I think she can. None of the others are going top 10 with juries or televoters in Kyiv so have no chance of escaping the bottom 5. So Olivia (best song/overall package) or Lucie (long-term fan, most potential on scoreboard) for me. I think Danyl will win personally as it is the most "Eurovisiony" song and the BBC will love that. I wouldn't pay attention to the odds just yet, Joe and Jake were 4th favourites to win at this stage last time (only Dulcima and Matthew lower) so we'll see.
January 23, 20178 yr Olivia > Salena > Danyl > Hollie > Lucie > Nate i mean, none of them are anything special
January 23, 20178 yr Salena's gives me most hope, yes. But I do HAVE to ask, are these songs all still in demo mode? They all sound so poorly mastered.
January 23, 20178 yr For me any of these 3 would suffice, Salena, Olivia or Lucie, I must admit Lucie's track could be a dark horse, its a grower, but the tracks do need tweaking a bit. And I'm a Lucie Jones fan.
January 23, 20178 yr The jury will consist of 8 people, 3 of which will be the expert panellists - confirmed by eurovision.tv.
January 23, 20178 yr Author I can't even at people saying Lucie Jones would get us the best result at Eurovision, please tell me who is going to pick up the phone and vote for monotonous, forgettable drivel.
January 23, 20178 yr I can't even at people saying Lucie Jones would get us the best result at Eurovision, please tell me who is going to pick up the phone and vote for monotonous, forgettable drivel. Poland got 222 televoting points last year...
January 23, 20178 yr No-one would, but no-one would vote for any of the others either as none of them are good enough to be anyone's first choice. On the other hand, Lucie is most likely to feature in the most jury top tens and get the most points that way.
January 23, 20178 yr I find this batch more middle of the road than last year, nothing as bad as Matthew (and Dulcima to an extent) but nothing as good as Joe and Jake (and Darline to an extent). Interestingly, despite Darline never releasing Until Tomorrow commercially (), they are still together and have reinvented themselves. They have a new single on Spotify/iTunes now called Fall Deep, which is, naturally, tropical house. Salena's gives me most hope, yes. But I do HAVE to ask, are these songs all still in demo mode? They all sound so poorly mastered. Going by past form they won't remake or remaster any of these. The BBC have a real issue in that our entries always sound slightly cheap, and worse that they never listen to any advice to remake them. I'm sure Molly would have come a few places higher if the song had been better produced, the verses were pretty perfect but the bass in the chorus needed to be way higher to make a proper impact. It sounded half-finished. The last time I was impressed with the production on an entry of ours was Blue's I Can, it was a complete rip-off of Tinie Tempah's Written In The Stars but executed so well.

It's a slight shame they've abandoned country for Spotify-friendly pop but it is so catchy!
January 23, 20178 yr Author Poland got 222 televoting points last year... With a sing-a-long chorus, a memorable image and a huge diaspora fan base to help. Honestly, none of these are going on the left-side of the scoreboard (unless someone pulls off amazing staging which I highly doubt), but the Lucie song hasn't got a chorus (much like Jamie-Lee's 'Ghost' last year, which I'm sure you'll all remember did AMAZING with the juries)
January 23, 20178 yr My issue with this set of songs I guess is a version of what other people are saying but they all seem to be various flavours of the same theme (midtempo songs about world peace/inspirational themes). I know "Love Love Peace Peace" and all that jazz and one or two is par for the course but literally all of them fall under that category which is a bit much. We'll do better than Spain and potentially some country that qualifies by accident but that's it. Get your "Brexit and everyone hates us" excuses in now!
January 23, 20178 yr I find this batch more middle of the road than last year. That should not be possible. Last years was one of the most dull and MoR NFs I've ever seen. When will people not hear this message? MoR is bad and given our entries always sound cheap there's nothing to be done. If the song doesn't elicit strong emotions in any way and is poorly produced, it's dead on arrival.
January 23, 20178 yr I Don't Wanna Fight feels the closest thing we've got, I just wish the chorus took it there even extra. It needs more DAY MI LJUBOVTA and less repetition about weapons (which seems to be repeated all song for some reason).
January 23, 20178 yr I've listened to them all again in quick succession and it has cleared it up a bit for me, the mid-tempos (and Salena) do all blend into each other. There are two stand-out songs now, Lucie and Nate. Nate could work quite well actually if they just put him behind a piano or something and make him our very own John Legend, there's obviously a market for that sort of thing. I've already explained my opinions on Lucie. When MOR pop is so popular we HAVE to go for something a bit different and these two are the most out-standing in a sea of mid-tempo ~realness~.
January 23, 20178 yr Nate sounds really dated. Selena has the strongest song here but Lucie may be a better option for us if we don't want to drown in the sea of tropical pop that'll be getting sent (and you can guarantee other European countries will make better songs of this genre than us).
January 23, 20178 yr The odds: http://sports.williamhill.com/bet/en-gb/be...K+Specials.html What the f*** at Holly top? Really??? These are already changing quickly: Bet365 6/4 Lucie Jones 7/2 Danyl Johnson 5/1 Holly Brewer 5/1 Nate Simpson 5/1 Olivia Garcia 11/1 Salena Mastroianni William Hill 7/4 Lucie Jones 10/3 Danyl Johnson 9/2 Holly Brewer 9/2 Nate Simpson 6/1 Olivia Garcia 10/1 Salena Mastroianni But as I say, I'm not trusting these just yet - but still interesting nevertheless!
January 23, 20178 yr Just sifted through these on lunch at work (although I did have the feedback minimised on the screen). I ask myself the question: Which of these - staging permitting - would (hypothetically) make their way out of the semi finals? I think Freedom Hearts is solid, but not exciting enough. I Don't Wanna Right is a bit watery, but it has an OK hook. Really could do with a BOOM DROP! The rest I have forgotten about already... which is not good. Edited January 23, 20178 yr by ScottyEm
January 23, 20178 yr What a bunch of boring and forgettable songs and they all sound so similar. It's probably best to go for one of the ballads, which stand out a bit more even though they are pretty boring songs. Leaning towards Nate Simpson though. Salena is a bit of a jam but it needs a lot of polishing up, it's definitely the best of the mid-tempos and on trend.
