I'm so happy to see 'Crazy for You' get so many votes. I think Madonna has more complex ballads in terms of both sound and theme but that's not always to say they are as effective as this is. I feel all sentimental the moment the intro kicks in and the lyrics describe beautifully what i imagine the experience of being in love is like. It's also one of the many times Madonna has made an 80s production appear timeless due to her delivery.

Are we calling 'Secret' a ballad or is it too mid-tempo?

Yes at 'Easy Ride' John!! That's currently in my Top 10 too. A great message to end the American Life album and some great lyrics.

It's typical Madonna ballad really (and I mean that in a very positive way). On the surface it's quite simplistic, but once you listen to it with the production and melody it really comes to life and is so much more than the sum of its parts.
