Little Mix - For slickness, professionalism, impact and detail

Katy Perry - For creativity, the message and Skip

Bruno Mars - For swag

The 1975 - For making everyone think ITV had been hacked

Stormzy (and Ed)

Chainsmokers & Coldplay

Skepta

Emeli Sande

I didn't bother with Robbie

I'm genuinely not sure which one of those bottom 2 performances were worse. Katy easily top for me!

Can't believe A Tribe Called Quest actually won an award, that makes me so happy

Katy Perry - the skulls were GENIUS

Load of people saying that Skepta and Ed Sheeran/Stormzy stole the show last night!

Katy Perry, Skepta, Ed/Stormzy and Little Mix were all amazing for me!

I would say The 1975 but the random pink sayings was annoying and not needed

So that’s it? Skepta won in terms of performances but for not a single grime artist to win a prize seems massively out of touch. A monotonous list of winners.

Quote from the Guardian live blog... True?

The actual quote is Skepta and Little Mix won in terms of performances, but for not a single grime artist to win a prize seems massively out of touch...

I love that you edited out Little Mix! ML Hammer how do you feel about one of your favs Stormzy saying he's a massive fan of Little Mix and wanted them to win last night because they "smash it" and he loves "Touch"?

Touch is a great pop song, the girls are fit... no problem with Little Mix  I just don't go out my way to listen to them!

Emeli was SO lucky to get that award in a dead year for her catagory where people were getting nominated despite not even releasing anything that year.

I don't think it was that grime won, for me, it was more that they were either rewarding their existing faves (Emeli, Rag N Bone Man will probs join) or trying to be cool and indie and going for faux Tumblr shit like The 1975 :drama: I'm honestly shocked they didn't give Int Female to Solange  I am glad Beyonce, Drake and especially Little Mix got their awards though. I'm just bored of it either being the same few BRITs darlings. Grime is one of the missing genres though at times, for example on balance looking objectively Skepta or Stormzy probably should have got Breakthrough, as much as I'm not a fan and I wanted Anne-Marie to get it, I think they epitomise a breakthrough. I know that they were popular in the grime scene but I think the way that they've become big names in the mainstream deserves some recognition and is the perfect example of a Best Breakthrough.

The worst award for me was A Tribe Called Quest winning Group over Twenty One Pilots.... Like nbf but who tf are they, I honestly have never heard of them  I know it's not all about sales but come on :/ Having read up on ATCQ I'm none the wiser (although I know of Q-Tip), but apparently their album has rave reviews. It honestly feels sometimes like they give it to critics darlings' to look cool and in with the crowd

Also, I think they should scrap the rule of releasing an album within the eligible period, for example in Best Female it was such a dead year as Joe says above. Dua Lipa probably should've got it maybe? I think in a climate where albums are becoming less important for new artists and they sell less, plus they're not released for ages, they should change to reflect artists who've maybe had a couple of hits or something, like Dua. I suppose they need to take critical success into account too and that's why Anonhi and Nao were nominated, for example, but it feels like they were almost by default because there wasn't really anyone else.

Tbh I didn't know who Stormzy was before last neet! I have heard of Skepta I think.

Missing out mate.

They definitely were a bit...suspicious with their eligible rule this year. Ellie Goulding didn't get nominated for her last era last year but got a nod for a soundtrack song. And LLH didn't have her era this year either did she? The only time Ariana has been nominiated is in a year where she didn't have an era (last year) and just released focus, neither her My Everything or Dangerous Woman eras got a nod. There's also Rag'n'Bone Man and Anne getting nominated for Best Breakthrough, the same year they are up for Critics choice. Usually Breakthrough comes the same year as the main catagories, Like Jess Glynne, James Bay and Years & Years last year. VERY odd. It seems like they had slim pickings for some categories so broke the rules a bit.

A Tribe Called Quest are a well established hip-hop group from America, they had a song last year called “We The People…” (which is excellent) that was highly critical of modern America, including recent increases of police brutality, racial/religious and sexuality discrimination, threats of deportation, and a lack of equality for women. The hook in the song was:

All you Black folks, you must go

All you Mexicans, you must go

And all you poor folks, you must go

Muslims and gays, boy, we hate your ways

So all you bad folks, you must go

I agree with you that either Skepta, or more especially Stormzy would have been FAR more deserving of best breakthrough - but the cynic in me believes the awards are mainly a tool to drum-up support of the acts the industry is currently supporting and think will do well. That means MOR acts that appeal to the mainstream like Rag'n'Bone Man are favoured over more genuine breakthrough successes like Stormzy etc.

PR speech.

They are teerrible manufactured pop straight off the Cowell runway belt.

Give it a rest dude. The negative Little Mix/Cowell puppets posts are getting very boring now.

The grime artists were only beaten by David Bowie in terms of who the Brits panel voted for, and its not as though those wins for Bowie were undeserved.

Breakthrough is voted for by Radio 1 listeners so blame them lmao.

Overall, really dull show. The whole event has definitely lost the spark it once had as its all so clinical now.

and poor Christine, at least she was there. :( I think Female & Group were skipped because Beyoncé & A Tribe Called Quest didn't record any messages or send anyone to pick it up.

Amazing

Alright

Robbie Williams

Nah

Chris Martin - lovely sentiment, but they could've got a better vocalist really

Skepta

I enjoyed the show as a whole actually, Dermot and Emma did a great job hosting as you'd expect from them too. The international female/group thing was a total mess, I'm sure they had their reasons but not even giving the nominees a VT seemed quite off.

Yes:
