Hair is so fun

I like The Vamps but I prefer them in other ways (although I like more the main singer because of his cuteness  )

Thanks Seltin! :D Brad is incredibly cute, definitely my favourite :kink: although I'll always have a soft spot for Connor, he's so kind in person and always remembers me! :o

Hi Joseph

The Revival era altogether has been so good for Selena I think, so glad she just kept getting smash after smash in the US at least, a shame she isn't a bigger star this side of the pond though although she still did good. Hands to Myself is one of the best tracks of her career I think, in my top three with THWWIW and GFY

I wasn't huge on 5SOS this era and quite a bit of their tracks disappointed me this time round but JBL was a great little track actually, shame it never picked up properly in the charts because I'd have loved that to be a hit. Don't Stop remains their best track though (and video, so much fun!!).

:D

Hey Josh! :D

The Revival era really has been such a triumph for Selena, she's properly come into her own as a huge player in the world of pop. It was great to see Hands to Myself possibly becoming her biggest hit overall in the UK, and I'd agree it's one of her best ever! I'd say my top 3 is Good For You, Hands to Myself and Come & Get It in that order.

5SOS were generally pretty good in the Sounds Good Feels Good era for me! The album wasn't perfect but I actually revisit it more than their debut, helps that I got to hear it live earlier this year I guess! Don't Stop isn't their best for me (She Looks So Perfect is ) but I 100% agree it's their best video! They're normally pretty good on that front too.

Thank you! :D

Hey Joseph

Stay is one of my favourites from Kygo. I'm glad it scraped the top 20!

-_-

Hey Cameron, thank you! Stay is my second favourite from Kygo behind Firestone, so glad it became a big hit!

hey Joseph! :D

Awesome to see The Ransom here, that was definitely one of my faves from BJSC 89, and high praise indeed considering 89 was by far and away my favourite contest of the year in terms of song quality.

Blow Your Mind (Mwah!) and Stay are my favourites from your recent batch, the latter deserved to be a larger hit, I hope Maty Noyes can have a big year next year (maybe it's not too late for In My Mind to get a push? :o)

Happy New Year! ^_^

Hey mdh! :D Happy New Year to you too!

Glad you liked The Ransom, sadly it seemed to go under the radar by the end of the contest and got a disappointing result in the final but I love it and am glad I sent it

Maty definitely has huge potential to get a hit soon, although sadly I'm thinking In My Mind has missed its chance :( Lil' Bit Wrong seems a good choice for single 2 from her EP though so that may get a bigger push? Time will tell I guess but she's way too good to get snubbed entirely surely :(

Hurts - The best Emeli song ever.

Hands To Myself - Love the video to this. And of course the 'I mean I could but why would I want to' line is iconic.

Hair - It wasn't until the Sean Paul version was released that I started to like this too.

Stay - Good from Kygo but it doesn't hold up for me.

Blow Your Mind (Mwah) - Such an amazing single. I think it has a cool video and this really should have done better in the charts.

Thanks Lewis! :D

Stay was the opposite for me actually, I've found it just keeps getting better :o

Blow Your Mind should've been a top 10 hit at worst, such a shame :(

Blow Your Mind (Mwah) is probaly one of the most catchiest songs of the year  Especially the MWAH bits

Stay is for sure the second best Kygo song after Firestone

WHY WASNT VOLCANO A SINGLE :nono:

Thanks Harry! :D Seems we agree on everything there, yasss *.*

41 Ariana Grande - Into You - 7-6-4-3-4-6-11-18-19-24-32-34-39-X (13 weeks)

42 Zara Larsson - Lush Life - 39-38-X-39-X-18-16-19-15-5-5-7-10-13-15-21-30-36-40-X (17 non-consecutive weeks)

43 Delta Goodrem - Enough (feat. Gizzle) - 15-2-1-2-6-12-16-21-28-34-40-X (11 weeks)

44 Little Mix - Shout Out to My Ex - 2-4-7-13-21-26-… (6+ weeks)

45 Shawn Mendes - Mercy - 25-5-8-12-16-17-15-17-22-23-6-8-15-20-22-… (15+ weeks)

Shawn Mendes has had a brilliant year in my chart, with Stitches climbing to #1 after a long wait in the second week of the year and spending three weeks there, followed by three further top 5 hits, including #1 Treat You Better. Both those #1s are still to come, and I Know What You Did Last Summer has been already, which means it's all about Mercy right now. The track is Shawn's first ballad release post-breakthrough, and it was an instant hit for me. Whilst it didn't make #1 on one of the most competitive weeks of the year, it's actually above every single track that was above it that week (Mollie, Britney's Do You Wanna Come Over, Catey Shaw, Ellie) in my EOY! Mercy is a powerful track, with Shawn conveying the emotion really convincingly. It was great to see it become a big chart hit also, giving Shawn a fourth top 20 hit to his name!

2016 is most definitely the year I became a full on Little Mix fan. I was a fan beforehand but just a casual one, but from Secret Love Song onwards, I really couldn't praise them enough, delivering four incredible singles in a row, and the second of those four arrives now (meaning they have two in the top 40!). Shout Out to My Ex was the lead single from their brilliant fourth album Glory Days, premiered via a live performance on The X Factor's results show. This was a huge moment I think, hearing a brand new pop tune for the first time with an AMAZING performance was so exciting, even if I was frantically voting via the app to save Ryan Lawrie in the lifeline vote at the time :') It was so close to being their second #1 in my chart, but it was released the same week as The Vamps' All Night so never stood much of a chance! Still, it's pop perfection and fully deserving of being the big hit it has been officially.

I said last section that Delta still has a #1 single to appear, and here it is! Enough originally had to settle for a #2 peak behind Frans' Young Like Us (still to come), but it overtook a week later and gave Delta her eighth #1. The track features rapper Gizzle, who enhances the track and sets it aside from other Delta songs, notably being the first track of hers to feature a rapper but also it adds an extra layer. The contrast between Gizzle's verses and Delta's bridge and chorus is excellent, and it's a combination I never thought would work as well as it did.

More pop goodness is next up from Zara Larsson! The Swedish pop sensation scored a #1 at the end of 2015 with Never Forget You, alongside MNEK, and initially I thought it might be a fluke as whilst I'd heard Lush Life by this point, I wasn't totally feeling it, as you might be able to see from that incredibly bumpy chart run at the beginning! It did worm its way into my affections by the end, however, and has become one of the biggest #5 hits in the history of my chart! It's incredibly catchy and full of personality, and it's not hard to see why this was the track that established Zara as the newest pop princess.

Finally, only JUST missing the top 40 is Ariana Grande, with the second single from her Dangerous Woman album. Into You debuted in the same week as great songs like Dua Lipa's Hotter Than Hell and Jesper Jenset's High, and did incredibly well to get to #7 that week. It continued to climb up and up and eventually gave Ariana her first top 3 in almost 2 years, since Bang Bang. It's impossible to resist such a catchy chorus and seeing it have such a lengthy chart run officially was amazing even if it didn't get that top 10 peak it so deserved. Ariana has one more song to come!

Zara has had such a great 2016 and Lush Life is definitely the best of the lot for me, it's so damn catchy and she seems like a real star. I adored the TOTP performance loads too, those pink trousers *-* Hope her album campaign is just as successful as the singles have been.

I think Mercy must be in my top 3 Shawn tracks now, it is a lovely little ballad and I'm so glad it was a chart hit even if it wasn't as big as TYB/Stitches. He really shines on the ad libs too

:D

I think The Tide will actually win this :o

Lush Life, Stay and Blow Your Mind my faves from the top 50.

Capsize ending up higher in my EOY than yours, despite the #10 peak in my chart :o

Hey Josh, thanks once again

Zara really had an amazing year, Lush Life is probably my favourite of hers now too although Never Forget You actually made #1 in my chart! She's such a fantastic performer, I always look forward to watching her and if she announces a UK tour, you can guarantee I'll be there!

Mercy is probably my third fave too, behind Stitches and TYB of course! It was great to see him notch up another top 20 hit *.*

I think The Tide will actually win this :o

Levi following me having an impact on my EOY? *_* :kink: thanks Cam!!

Great great group: Into You, Shout Out To My Ex and Lush Life are so so good!!

Thanks Seltin!!

4 Shawn Mendes

I first heard of Shawn around the middle of 2014, when his debut single Life of the Party was somehow at #1 on US iTunes right after release. I was intrigued so checked it out, and thought it was pretty good - it peaked at #22 in my chart which, at the time, was a pretty good result! Shawn caught my attention just months later when he featured on the single mix of The Vamps' Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart), and together, both acts scored a #1 hit, Shawn's first and The Vamps' fifth. The track also gave Shawn his first top 40 hit, and top 10 hit for that matter, in the UK! Something Big followed in late 2014 and the album in early 2015 and I was enjoying what he was putting out - Something Big got to #5 in my chart and the album debuted at #2.

It wasn't until Stitches started to make waves that I really sat up and took notice of Shawn though, despite all of that. Stitches defined slow-burner in my chart, peaking at #1 in its 20th week in my chart (non-consecutive so even longer if we're counting the number of weeks since entry!) in the second week of 2016. As I was growing to love Stitches, Handwritten started to re-emerge in my listening habits, and finally, it got to a new peak of #1 in May, after I saw Shawn live. Seeing him live was a great experience actually, he came across as very genuine and down to earth, and he sounds just as good live as he does on track. At one point, he asked the crowd to be silent, so he could sing without a microphone and everyone managed to hear, it was quite a special moment as I've not seen any other artist do that in any venue!

All of this came before any of 2016's new Shawn material too. Treat You Better got announced in the middle of the year, and needless to say I was incredibly hyped. All of the previews sounded really promising and it came just a week or two after I saw him live! It definitely didn't disappoint, debuting at a very impressive #5 in my chart after less than 24 hours, before giving Shawn his third #1 a week later. This paved the way for the Illuminate album - although I must say, TYB doesn't really represent the album at all, it's the most uptempo song on there! The album felt a bit underwhelming at first but with repeated listens, it grew and grew, much like its predecessor in fact.

Seeing Shawn break through into the UK charts last year was fantastic, it had been a long time coming, almost 2 years after I first heard of him. Stitches climbing the chart was incredibly exciting and when it finally got to #1, it felt like such a triumph, particularly after Life of the Party and Something Big went without a trace, and Handwritten was well over 6 months in the past at that point. I'm seeing Shawn live again this year, this time at the bigger venue known as the O2 Arena, hype levels are HIGH.

PS: the top 3 artists will be revealed every 10 songs rather than every 30 as we're getting nearer to the end now!

Finally caught up! Thanks for saving the best songs until the end :basil:

'Jet Black Heart' is my second-fave from 5SOS behind 'She Looks So Perfect', a shame it did nothing chart-wise. 'The Ransom' was my favorite entry of yours this year and possibly ever (:o), that remix was an excellent find! And 'Hair' was my favorite single from Little Mix this past era!

'Into You' is still absolutely stunning, a definite contender to top my own EOY. As for Shawn, I had my doubts with him releasing another album so soon after the last one, and I haven't listened to it yet but the singles didn't disappoint. Are there really no other uptempo songs on it? :(

Cheers Jordan! No worries, quite a unique idea right? :basil:

Really glad you like The Ransom so much! :o She came up on my YouTube suggestions and I wasn't really keen on anything I heard until I saw that remix and gave it a go to see if it could add that missing oomph :magic:

Treat You Better is most certainly the only one of its kind on there, I guess songs like No Promises and Patience are leaning more that way but generally it's quite downtempo. At first a lot of the songs kinda blend into one but they differentiate themselves more and more with each listen for sure! I felt the same with Handwritten really.

3 of my faves of the year are all in that last section

Shout Out To My Ex/Lush Life/Into You are all perfect pop songs.

SOTME is what put Little Mix back above 5H as my fave girl group. One of the most instant songs of the year.

Lush Life took a few listens to get into but they became my first smash of 2016.

Into You is a highlight from Dangerous Woman.

Hi Joseph :D

I always sort of forget about NFY when mentioning Zara actually but yeah, it's probably her joint best for me actually. She is totally the highlight of the song too

Love that Shawn write-up too, really been enjoying him lately. I knew him from back in the Vine days anyway but he only really did short six second singing clips. Life of the Party wasn't the most exciting way to start things off imo but Something Big was way more catchy and really enjoyable little track, I really wish it was a bigger hit officially too but at least he had some of those on the way  Have fun seeing him live again :D

MNEK stealing the limelight from Zara -_- She really is the highlight though

Yeah I think Shawn improved with each single up to Stitches so it felt right that that song was the one that broke him through. Something Big is definitely underrated though, a very good song!

40 Troye Sivan - HEAVEN (feat. Betty Who) - 13-17-25-37-X-37-X-8-7-11-17-23-30-… (11+ non-consecutive weeks)

OK moving very slowly now as we get closer and closer to the top! Troye Sivan is a name that has well and truly dominated the past 12 months for me, and HEAVEN is just one of the many amazing songs he's released. Its position in this countdown is a bit odd, because it means a LOT more to me than its chart run suggests, but the single release was extremely low-key and I've been loving it pretty much since the album came out in December 2015, so it's a hard one to rank and I have to balance it among other songs which were, ultimately, bigger hits. Nevertheless, it's possibly one of the most relatable songs of recent times for me. The lyrics speak of Troye's struggle with his sexuality, and how he's heard religion etc say that being gay means you won't go to heaven, so Troye asks "without losing a piece of me, how do I get to heaven?". The track is beautifully written and performed, and is just one of the reasons why Troye is one of the breakout stars of the past year and a bit.

http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Tom%20Odell%20-%20Concrete.png

39 Tom Odell - Concrete - 18-27-33-X-35-26-24-7-11-11-15-17-22-29-37-X (14 non-consecutive weeks)

Another emotional track now from Tom Odell, although it's a bit more of a positive one. Concrete was the second single from the Wrong Crowd album, and was already off to a good start in my chart having made the top 20 as an album track. It eventually peaked at #7 in a busy week and whilst it didn't have the longest chart run ever, it still did very well for a #7 hit and is his second highest song this year. Concrete is, at heart, a simple love song, talking about how Tom only needs the one he loves with him - he'll sleep on a bed that's made of concrete as long as that person is with him. It's well-written as always with him, and is one of the several examples on his last album of just how good he is at making songs that build and build to a big final chorus.

61. It's bound to be excellent

65. indeed, I hope you liked ha sang xx

40. Absolutely, in fact it's probably THE #HausofJayseph song

Tom made some good music this year - heard Here I Am earlier again and it still sounds fresh, also still love Concrete. This era has been flawless tbh *.* Let's hope he stays consistent with the content in 2017.

I Found A Girl was quite good, rather a throwback to have pre-orders contained in its sales, I quite liked having that in the chart for a change! Seems like The Vamps will always capitalise on their fanbase by staying traditional with selling methods (eg. All Night having a physical)! Not a bad thing at all :D

38 DJ Snake - Let Me Love You (feat. Justin Bieber) - 12-1-2-9-14-20-28-30-36-X (9 weeks)

I doubt it's any kind of surprise to see Justin doing well in my EOY. He is one of my top 5 artists after all, and has the second most chart entries out of anyone since my weekly chart began in 2011, including SEVEN #1s. The most recent of those seven is right here, the DJ Snake hit Let Me Love You, on which Justin takes up lead vocals. I heard the track a couple of weeks before it was released, due to a leak, but the quality wasn't great and I wasn't too fussed. It got released while I was on holiday, and I quickly fell in love with the HQ version. Justin's vocals sound great, some of the best vocals he's delivered I'd say, and the production is much better than DJ Snake's previous hit Middle, which I never particularly liked. The track didn't hang around long but that's more because it got overshadowed hugely by other new music (it fell 2-9 in the week that there were six new songs in the top 6). I still listen to it pretty often and I love it, although I prefer the other Bieber collab from 2016 which is still to come!

37 Little Mix - Touch - 25-1-… (2+ weeks)

Now for the final eligible #1 of 2016! I've explained already that Little Mix have had their best year yet, and Touch was the second of two #1s they scored over the year, the first being Secret Love Song which is their highest song in the countdown, still to come. I decided not to listen to Touch when it came out as an instant grat, instead opting to wait until the album's release just days later, so I managed that, and BOY, was it worth the wait! Touch stood out to me instantly on my first listen of the album, and the acoustic version at the end just enhanced that. Both versions really touched me (pardon the pun) in different ways - the original is a huge anthem, with a massive chorus and a lot of attitude, while the acoustic changes it to really emotional track, with all four girls shining on their solos. The "just one touch of your love" middle 8 on the acoustic is my favourite moment of the entire album too. And what's more, it's this high on only 8 days of impact before the cut-off point (it made #25 in its first week on less than 24 hours of availability). Expect Touch to feature highly next year too!

Thanks mdh! Tom really was on form throughout 2016, I think it'll probably be a couple of years now before we get any more brand new music but I hope he promotes Wrong Crowd just a little bit longer!

I Found a Girl was a slightly strange one in terms of its release - it was available on the album months in advance but the Omi version was actually OA/OS! I agree though, it was quite a nice flashback. They definitely need the physicals to boost them and I expect it makes a nice bit of money for them too! Hopefully they don't forget the new methods though - Spotify playlists helped All Night hugely, it just took ages to feature on any of them :drama:
