Posted December 16, 20168 yr 2016 has been a shitshow of a year. But one thing's for sure, the music has gotten better. And with the last chart of the year approaching, now is the perfect time to begin looking back at some of the best moments of the year in music. (I'll also be finising last year's in the process) Lets set this party on fire... http://popcrush.com/files/2016/03/meghan-trainor-no.gif http://esq.h-cdn.co/assets/16/40/480x240/landscape-1475849593-bruno-24k.gif http://68.media.tumblr.com/d1a503ba7428a5a33abb5201b1e69390/tumblr_o4o2ftpvAD1ucrz7eo1_500.gif http://i.imgur.com/ZFdWxFi.gif http://i.imgur.com/GADlrny.gif http://i.imgur.com/ZUeHMnQ.gif http://68.media.tumblr.com/fcbf358e074804eb922a3227048457b5/tumblr_o7u62eTNa21slxegeo1_500.gif http://68.media.tumblr.com/593603a7b5beb170b6167487598f2d46/tumblr_o1q4sdo5c31se0io3o1_500.gif http://67.media.tumblr.com/3a50be62cc3b64a78a6087360fd5226a/tumblr_odehymZEpj1ur0nm7o1_500.gif http://68.media.tumblr.com/e7786d72e168ec5dc8db14652f630f05/tumblr_og0p5yM7CP1uvztbno3_540.gif http://68.media.tumblr.com/718cf9201f27df34433822083d171318/tumblr_odq00nl5lY1u5zp1po1_540.gif http://68.media.tumblr.com/1360c76e63e5127b62c73749b02d87d2/tumblr_o0c37qfeTT1uz2l3jo1_540.gif http://68.media.tumblr.com/7944dd98f848b6c6ed2e838b89a547c6/tumblr_ofl6c5a0mo1sq17gzo1_540.gif http://68.media.tumblr.com/69e87bffea22e186bf4dbfb1ca6c7655/tumblr_o1y5gkAFYU1qdtz5mo1_540.gif http://68.media.tumblr.com/62723379cbab91adc910749df8089e5a/tumblr_oeosdyrtNN1r9spw1o1_540.gif http://68.media.tumblr.com/4b4f5f04e9153bb1a413b465170e5d5d/tumblr_o366fuFE0o1rtc5d6o1_1280.gif http://68.media.tumblr.com/3b0ff3981e832039551d978724fa82a2/tumblr_odm0dpimIi1rtm6dso1_540.gif
December 16, 20168 yr Author FORMAT Cody's Radar: Ones To Watch 2017 (1 2 3 4) Worst of 2016 (Most Underwhelming Top 20) Best Music Videos of 2016 (1 2 3 Top 2) Album Evaluation 2016 The Top 150 Songs Of 2016 links to come later
December 18, 20168 yr Author Cody's Radar: Ones To Watch 2017 (Part 1) I decided to add this feature because come around this time I end up updating my Spotify for songs that I want to spam for the upcoming year, and they end up in the giant overhaul during the second chart of the year where I get rid of a ton of last year's songs and a bunch of skngs that charted near the end of the year also begin to grow more. Let's begin. Out of the songs that have charted since the most recent chart on December 16th: Sean Paul f/Dua Lipa - "No Lie" The increased interest in Dua Lipa following a top 2 + some success for Sean Paul in "Cheap Thrills" and "Rockabye" has given this song some life recently. It's a funky tropical pop/reggaeton fusion song that blends the best of both artists together and it should be interesting how this does come the new year. Maybe it could also get some US success? Daya - "Words" Daya has had one long-lasting low top 20 peaker in "Sit Still, Look Pretty" and her feature in "Don't Let Me Down" is among the contenders for biggest song this year. Maybe "Words" can become her first solo success? Britney Spears f/Tinashe - "Slumber Party" A widely renowned video and tons of promo could give it some more life here. Bebe Rexha - "I Got You" The 100th #1 is still up for grabs and we have a ton of contenders for that with "Blow Your Mind"/"Lane Boy"/"In My Mind"/"Bad Things"/"Suburbia", but could this be the surprise #1 that takes it in the end? Rain Man & Krysta Youngs - "Habit" This would be BJSC veteran Rain Man's first charter since "Bring Back The Summer". Recently artists I've sent to BJSC haven't had a huge follow-up. Will this change the pattern?
December 19, 20168 yr I hope 'No Lie' smashes hard in the new year, it's a big choon and Sean Paul is iconic as always.
December 19, 20168 yr No Lie [8.0] Words [6.0] Slumber Party [5.5] I Got You [6.0] Habit [8.0] No Lie and Habit are probably my faves out of 5
December 19, 20168 yr Hiya Cody Really hoping that No Lie is going to be huge once Xmas is over and the charts become more exciting again, the chorus is so catchy, a real ear worm for sure! I want Dua to get another hit too so that her album can smash. I really wish Slumber Party would click on but I don't think it will officially. It's a huge shame because it sounds so current, especially with the Tinashe feature but the public/radio just seem to be over her now and she's goign to struggle to get any form of hit again I think. I'm starting to think the same for Lady Gaga too which I really hope isn't the case :(
December 19, 20168 yr Author Cody's Radar: Ones To Watch 2017 (Collection 2) *note: everything else on this list beyond has not charted yet* Sabrina Carpenter - "Thumbs" Listen here! The excitement of Sabrina actually getting a push in American markets brings the possibility of this charting to attention. Adventures In Babysitting costar Sofia Carson hit #1 in the middle of the year with "Love Is The Name" with other Disney alum Jordan Fisher also gaining two top 20's, so the hit ratio for Disney stars is pretty high at the moment. Noah Cyrus f/Labrinth - "Make Me (Cry)" Sister Miley already reached the top with "Wrecking Ball" and at one point had five songs charting simultaneously. Now it's time for this Cyrus sibling to take center stage. Can this melancholic tune prove to be her shining moment? Steve Aoki & Louis Tomlinson - "Just Hold On" The first of the 1D solo songs to feature in this category. Steve Aoki's latest charter "Back 2 U" peaked outside the top 20 a couple months ago - could this give him and Louis a smash that reaches the heights of previous 1D charters? Tkay Maidza - "Simulation" These past two months have been all about artists getting huge smash debuts, as shown by Hey Violet smashing the chart on their first try with three weeks at #1. Could a potential debut charter for Tkay continue this trend? Fitz & the Tantrums - "HandClap" A former BJSC entry turned potential US smash. And naturally sounding like something that I would like (if it weren't for the contest it was entered in being so strong, I would have pointed it). - More of these coming soon!
December 19, 20168 yr Thumbs [6.0] Make Me (Cry) [6.5] Just Hold On [7.5] Simulation [9.0] Handclap [9.0]
December 19, 20168 yr Loads of great songs in the ones to watch, my favourites being Just Hold On and Slumber Party
December 20, 20168 yr Make Me (Cry) is a good shout for a future hit, I've been loving that a lot recently and I'm surprised to see how much Noah sounds like Miley :o I have to say I kind of prefer Noahs voice to the recently Miley sounds we've been getting (cough cough Dead Petz era :heehee:). Just Hold On is already a hit in the UK but in the slower US chart I suppose it'll take a while to get going (when will ur US favez have a phresh chart like the UK :P), but I expect it'll eventually be a big top 5.
December 20, 20168 yr Author Just to clarify, the radar is for songs that could potentially chart my personal chart, as I'm aware that some of these have already charted in the UK (it's just that the US is taking their damn time to give certain songs an impact date). That said, I think "Just Hold On" may be good for at least top 20 on BB/top 10 on CHR airplay but that would only be on the 1D connection alone - Steve Aoki himself doesn't really have the staying power to get decent radio hits yet and even if this does become a smash, this is only his first. Noah, however, might just because it's stabilized on iTunes and it's gaining streaming and airplay despite an impact date that's three weeks away.
December 21, 20168 yr Author Speaking of songs I know I'm gonna be absurdly late on... Cody's Radar: Ones To Watch 2017 (Collection 3) *note: everything else on this list beyond has not charted yet* ZAYN & Taylor Swift - "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" Listen here! Highly aware that this has become a hit just about everywhere, but something about this didn't make me jump over it upon first listen. Maybe it was a little too R&B for my tastes as a first impression, but it sounded like a grower so that's why it's here. Part of me wants to wait for the movie to chart this. Zayn needs to put this on streaming sites, Taylor Swift involvement be damned. Courage My Love - "Stereo" Continuing on where F&TT left off with BJSC hits that somehow get irl impact dates. Not only that but "Stereo" is a CanCon so naturally I'd get into this slowly and steadily. It also has a new video that I just became aware of, so that could heighten its chances of charting. Maybe sooner rather than later? PNAU - "Chameleon" The token deep house song that grows into me during the beginning of the year and tapers down due to overplay. Last year it was "Heaven" (and "Show Me Love" a little while after), so this spews big things for it. Marshmello f/Wrabel - "Ritual" "Alone" came extremely close to charting but lacked a certain edge to keep it afloat given a highly competitive summer in terms of new entries. (Why did Britney and Zedd have to release on the same day? :drama:) That said, this has a much better chance of charting with the beginning-of-year purge that will happen. Tove Lo - "True Disaster" "Cool Girl" didn't perform so well on this chart (only peaking at #33 I believe) but this is an infinitely better single choice.
December 21, 20168 yr Hi Cody Been enjoying Just Hold On a fair bit at the moment, it's not the best thing ever but it definitely is quite catchy and he sounds good on a track for once which is good. Way more interesting that Niall's track which is always a good thing, glad it seems to be doing quite well in the charts so far. :D
December 21, 20168 yr I Don't Wanna Live Forever [5.5] Stereo [7.5] Chameleon [8.5] Ritual [9.0] True Disaster [6.0]
December 21, 20168 yr Just Hold On is much better that I expected from a Louis Tomlinson single! :music: Stereo is quite catchy as well!
December 21, 20168 yr Author Thanks for all the support! Hi Cody Been enjoying Just Hold On a fair bit at the moment, it's not the best thing ever but it definitely is quite catchy and he sounds good on a track for once which is good. Way more interesting that Niall's track which is always a good thing, glad it seems to be doing quite well in the charts so far. :DI think that's more entailed to Steve than Louis tbh. A lot of his more commercial material ("Delirious (Boneless)" is probably the best example) doesn't sound like the best thing for that specific sub genre of dance but it works. I Don't Wanna Live Forever [5.5] Stereo [7.5] Chameleon [8.5] Ritual [9.0] True Disaster [6.0]I think "Stereo" and "Chameleon" might be my faves from that section - Last collection before heading into the next section! Cody's Radar: Ones To Watch 2017 (Collection 3) 3LAU & Said The Sky f/NÉONHÈART - "Fire" Those of you who have followed my chart in the past know that 3LAU has charted with new material during the beginning of the year. Those of you who participated in BJSC during June will also know Said The Sky undeservedly flopping. This is clearly the better single though. Twenty One Pilots - "Heavydirtysoul" Listen here! They're getting it spot on with the singles from Blurryface! (Now they just need to re-release "Tear In My Heart" for pop radio.) The boys have gotten Three top 3 singles (including two massive #1's) and a further top 5. "Lane Boy" is still in the running for that top spot, but can a huge haul for this song change everything? Little Mix - "Touch" Probably one of their strongest singles to date. Really hoping this and "Shout Out To My Ex" don't overshadow each other. The Weeknd f/Daft Punk - "I Feel It Coming" For some reason this might be the one that gets overplayed before I even chart this so I've been trying to avoid it for the longest time but it's a JAM. :P Robin Schulz & David Guetta f/Cheat Codes - "Shed A Light" Listen here! Robin Schulz never disappoints with his songs, so to have David Guetta working with him is a double whammy. Robin even made a Cheat Codes song sound bearable without the absurdly high burn rate. - The Worst Of 2016 is coming up next!
