December 28, 20177 yr Author I feel that hot blood in my body when it drops... 28.) Justin Timberlake - "Can't Stop The Feeling!" Soundtrack Single, Trolls Points: 15757 Chart Run: 11-1-2-3-3-4-4-7-9-12-19-22-26-29-34-43 (16 weeks) ru0K8uYEZWw Fatherhood must have really changed JT. He was all angsty during his first era and now everything is happy and smiles and rainbows. This is just... an earworm. It has that funky dance sound that Uptown Funk had but instead of glitter and finesse, this song was just an endless bottle of happiness that has just been shaken to the core, and that first chorus lets everything loose. There's also that middle 8 cooldown that the Jackson 5 had in ABC. Needless to say, I can see why it was put in a kids' movie but at the same time I can't deny there was a giant appeal.
December 28, 20177 yr Author Don don, bet u wanna taste it... 27.) Era Istrefi - "Bonbon" Non-album Single Points: 16216 Chart Run: 47-46-42-38-31-30-22-20-18-13-14-13-14-8-3-1-4-8-11-15-20-26-34-39-47 (25 weeks) cedoBlUvBlI Tim and Addy will love this. It's interesting to see that I've had a #1 sung in Albanian when I have yet to get one sung in Spanish or French. A lot of people were interested in her "Rihanna mixed with Sia" looks, but I was fixated on the language. Either way this song wormed into my head and it stormed through the charts around the summer. It feels a bit like a "wtf this is random" #1 when compared to others like this but it's a strong track.
December 28, 20177 yr Author Una mexicana se puso a bailar... 26.) Deorro f/Elvis Crespo - "Bailar" 2nd Single, Good Morning Points: 16540 Chart Run: 48-41-37-33-30-26-26-21-20-16-13-7-5-2-3-3-8-12-16-20-26-... (21 weeks) 9cBtJYI6itg So this almost ended up being that Spanish #1. Throughout the year, I missed songs like this that gave such a huge rush through the bass line but stuff like this would have been considered too generic... but GOD, that drop is so infectious.
December 28, 20177 yr Author I'll promise to build a new world for us two... 25.) DJ Snake f/Bipolar Sunshine - "Middle" Lead Single, Encore Points: 16746 Chart Run: 47-35-33-24-13-8-6-3-4-5-5-8-9-9-12-17-22-27-34-43 (20 weeks) IvPT2QuCIOA DJ Snake came out swinging as a solely trap artist with Turn Down For What being somewhat of a novelty smash. Then his remix of You Know You Like It and his involvement in megasmash Lean On served as the perfect transition into this type of sound. It's a bass heavy and euphoric version of the latter's production, with the same sort of chirping that became popular throughout the year. In retrospect, this song should have done much better in the US. Never realized that was Josh Hutcherson in the video until now.
December 28, 20177 yr Author I was in my zone, before you came along... 24.) Meghan Trainor - "NO" Lead Single, Thank You Points: 16765 Chart Run: 14-13-9-8-4-2-1-3-5-9-13-17-22-26-33-39-47 (17 weeks) cMTAUr3Nm6I So this has a pretty interesting structure. It feels very late 90's/early 2000's in terms of production but the lyrics are very current in the sense that it's not just a female empowerment anthem, it's become this anti-rape anthem as well because no means no. It really helps that this has that catchy chorus that seems to transcend both eras.
December 28, 20177 yr Author We're hiding away from this tonight... 23.) Britney Spears f/G-Eazy - "Make Me..." Lead Single, Glory Points: 16784 Chart Run: 1-1-3-3-4-4-2-4-8-13-17-25-33-41 (14 weeks) etfJCm0nfr4 Upon first listen I thought that this was a nice take on the Flume-esque sounds that had been floating around over the year, so it didn't surprise me when I found out that BURNS produced this. This track feels like you're walking on air and Britney's vocals only solidify that; she sounds seductive and tantalizing, like she's drawing you in for another one of her fragrance commercials. When Britney's good, she absolutely destroys it. This debuted around the time when most of my top 5 consisted of debuts, but this isn't the highest placing in the EOY.
December 28, 20177 yr Author Forget yesterday, this life is a game... 22.) Sofia Carson - "Love Is The Name" Lead Single, TBA Points: 17633 Chart Run: 47-42-32-24-19-16-14-6-1-2-2-6-6-7-10-12-16-21-27-35-43 (14 weeks) fuyVJYP7GJk Another random #1. I tend to have these types of #1's around July-ish. This song proved that Radio Disney can still come out with some amazing discoveries, even when I think a lot of their additions are a bit too cringe for my liking. However, this was different. This had a bit of a Latin flavor that I didn't think would be prevalent on the pop charts at the time but it really stuck with me. I loved the "I don't give a shit so I'm just gonna ride it out" vibe that this song gives. Maybe I should have sent this to BJSC, although this did okay in Reinvention.
December 28, 20177 yr Author Baby, I don't need dollar bills to have fun tonight... 21.) Sia f/Sean Paul - "Cheap Thrills" 2nd Single, This Is Acting Points: 17873 Chart Run: 44-43-32-30-26-25-21-19-12-9-7-5-3-4-4-6-10-15-18-22-25-27-32-36-39-42-47 (14 weeks) 31crA53Dgu0 GOD I love Sean Paul's parts in this. "YOU WORTH MOR DAN DIAMOND MOR DAN GOALD". That's actually a better hook than "I love cheap thrills!" I thought it was cool but it didn't stand out enough to make a giant move, but once it clicked, it did the most. I'm actually surprised this got a ton of longevity here. It really was a slow burner track after the fact.
December 28, 20177 yr Author Money rains from the sky above... 20.) Kungs vs. Cookin' On 3 Burners - "This Girl" Lead Single, Layers Points: 17998 Chart Run: 50-45-31-24-13-8-7-2-1-2-3-5-7-11-14-19-21-24-29-35-43 (21 weeks) 2Y6Nne8RvaA Another really fun song that amazed me with how catchy it was. The beginning sounds like most songs that I had heard up to that point but then the drop took it to another level. The pounding drums combined with the perfectly synced trumpets made the song for me. Nice touch from Kungs. I think he just augmented the track fully because it highlighted the lyrics more as well.
December 28, 20177 yr This Girl  My favourite song of 2016 and so good that it's also made my top 100 of 2017. Forgot it made your #1 but great to see, though it spent 12 times longer there for me. :P Also love Cheap Thrills, Middle, I Took A Pill and especially Bonbon (such a jam and missed hit opportunity in UK)
December 28, 20177 yr Bonbon is such a tune, it sounds like a massive hit and it should have been one :( Love This Girl, Middle and Bailar too!

Yeah, This Girl made #1 right in between “Make Me” & “Starving”, the latter of which is still to come obviously. - Should've been born in another time before we all lost our way... 19.) Drumsound & Bassline Smith f/Conor Maynard - “Catch Me Here" Non-album Single Points: 18393 Chart Run: 15-10-4-3-2-2-1-4-6-8-10-14-17-20-25-28-... (16 weeks) sHCWiIhtM7Y A third random #1 that somehow did well. Hearing Conor on a drum n bass track was such a moment, mainly because this combination sounded like it belonged and should have stayed in 2012. It ended up happening and it kinda reminded me of old Rudimental songs. It still feels like a random #1 though. The “And EVERYWHERE I GO” part is pretty catchy and a nice lead-up to the drop.
December 29, 20177 yr Author You got up before, you’ll be good to go... 18.) Fifth Harmony - “That's My Girl" 3rd Single, 7/27 Points: 18477 Chart Run: 41-28-19-15-12-8-5-1-1-1-2-2-4-7-... The fandom is utterly horrible but I still support my wife my girls through thick and thin. Also good on them for making a total feminist anthem. I blame Trump for this flopping.
December 29, 20177 yr Author You're metaphorical gin and juice... 17.) Selena Gomez - “Hands To Myself" 3rd Single, Revival Points: 19030 Chart Run: 4-1-1-1-3-5-6-9-9-12-13-16-16-19-22-24-28-32-35-39-40-40-42-45-45-48-49 (29 weeks) FMlcn-_jpWY I didn’t realize it picked up that many points. :P This was another one of Selena’s ventures into a sultry and mature R&B-pop hybrid, same as “Good For You”. She starts off sultry and smooth, but she’s unapologetic and can’t really help her thirstiness. Sounds pretty much like most of this forum. However, the gag isn’t that she can’t control herself, it’s that she can, but why try to fight it when it will only kill you in the end? It’s an impressive motif to tackle and I think she handled it well.
December 29, 20177 yr Author Made my decision to test my limits... 16.) Ariana Grande - “Dangerous Woman" Lead Single, Dangerous Woman Points: 19289 Chart Run: 1-1-1-2-3-4-4-7-8-10-14-18-18-20-25-29-31-33-38-40-41-49 (22 weeks) 9WbCfHutDSE Another sexually charged song from a former child star. Ariana has always come out with danceable bangers (I mean, “Love Me Harder” comes close), so it was refreshing to hear something slower from her as a single, let alone as a lead. She gave it all she got and completely nailed the atmosphere of the song. Overplay kinda killed this, which explains why this feels weaker than most songs spending three weeks at #1 would be.
December 29, 20177 yr Middle hit me instantly, surprised it took so long to take off officially but glad Bipolar Sunshine managed to get a UK Top 10! Cheap Thrills was another I heard way before it became popular (and without Sean Paul), another victim of overplay :(
December 30, 20177 yr Author Smoke and mirrors keep us waitin' on a miracle... 15.) DJ Snake f/Justin Bieber - "Let Me Love You" 3rd Single, Encore Points: 20254 Chart Run: 38-25-15-9-5-2-1-1-3-4-6-7-7-9-13-18-22-26-29-... (19 weeks) euCqAq6BRa4 One thing of note: the entire top 15 is over 20000 chart points compared to only the top 8/9 from last year. After "Middle" went on to be a sleeper hit, "Talk" somehow slid past everyone, but it was mainly because everyone was glued to this instead. Admittedly, this is a more inhibited version of his usual stuff (and he seemed to get more inhibited with each single), but I still really liked it and it managed to do extremely well on my chart.
December 30, 20177 yr Author Yeah, I think about the end just way too much... 14.) Twenty One Pilots - "Ride" 5th/3rd Single, Blurryface Points: 21092 Chart Run: 50-42-42-37-39-36-35-31-28-25-16-15-15-11-8-8-9-9-8-5-7-5-9-11-13-17-18-22-24-29-33-31-32-36-40-40-42-46-50-50 (40 weeks) Pw-0pbY9JeU So this didn't reach #1 like the other three TOP singles that appear in this countdown, but it managed to last just as long as "Stressed Out" did overall. Weird to have the longevity record broken by two singles from the same artist. This managed to take off prematurely, hence the extremely slow start where it seemed to languish in the 30's region for weeks before eventually taking off when it actually did irl. Talk about sleeper hit. The song in itself is a cerebral roller coaster ride, from Tyler's lightning fast rap (though not as fast as the one in "Lane Boy") to the hypnotic "I've been thinking too much...". It literally feels like venturing inside the boys' complicated minds. I'm pretty sure this was only killed off due to "Heathens" smashing on its own.
December 30, 20177 yr Author I drink too much and that's an issue but I'm okay... 13.) The Chainsmokers f/Halsey - "Closer" 2nd Single, Collage EP Points: 21290 Chart Run: 43-34-25-22-18-14-11-6-5-5-3-3-4-4-6-6-7-10-12... (19 weeks) 0zGcUoRlhmw Everyone probably really hates this song due to the massive oversaturation. This also feels like a more inhibited effort compared to the singles before it, but it still manages to work. A lot of it is probably because of Halsey. She sounds like she's in her zone with this type of production even though it seems very generic for her. The entire thing is slow and contemplative, with the girl's dilemma being more complex than the guy's. It's also because of that singsong-y chorus that gives it so much replay value. Yeah I'm starting to understand why this was so big in the first place.
December 30, 20177 yr Author Hurry up now, I need a miracle... 12.) The Chainsmokers f/Daya - "Don't Let Me Down" Lead Single, Collage EP Points: 21738 Chart Run: 43-34-25-23-18-11-8-5-4-3-4-4-6-5-7-10-13-16-19-24-27-28-32-32-36-38-40-45-49 (29 weeks) Io0fBr1XBUA Highest Chainsmokers single here! And probably my favorite of theirs for a long time. It kinda looks like this had a similar run to "Closer". :P Daya's confused and striking vocals complement the increasingly climactic feel the production gives. The was she sings "ooh, I think I'm losing my mind now" during the middle 8 is one of the hottest things I've ever heard. Yeah this really should have been a #1, but it was unlucky given all the new songs that debuted in the spring.
