December 4, 20177 yr Author Come along with me and don't be scared... 148.) Charlie Puth - "One Call Away" 2nd single, Nine Track Mind Points: 1782 Chart Run: 48-41-33-32-31-29-26-26-40 (9 weeks) BxuY9FET9Y4 Welp this single artwork reminded me of how punchable his face is :P Probably the worst out of his singles for me, but it's still a nice and endearing song, and definitely something that grabs my attention for being so gentlemanly. The subject matter is nothing too out of the ordinary; it's just him saying he'll always be there for the one he loves, which is no big. It's nothing too exuberant and compelling, but it never overstays its welcome and it's fitting for a small little ballad like this.
December 4, 20177 yr Author I got broads in Atlanta... http://static.djbooth.net/pics-tracks/desiigner-panda.jpg 147.) Desiigner - "Panda" Non-album single Points: 1871 Chart Run: 47-45-39-33-27-24-25-30-47 (9 weeks) E5ONTXHS2mM That "panda panda panda GET IT GET IT BBBBRRRRRAAAAHHHHH" part always seems to get me for some reason. It's more or less a song that's tailored for a viral sensation/one-hit wonder, but it's so infectious that it drives you mad. The song ends up getting in your nerves after a while, which was why I refrained from overplaying this so much, but what I didn't realize was that I charted it near the end of its chart life so it didn't really last long as a result. I remember mdh in particular liking this song actually.
December 4, 20177 yr Author You seem to replace your brain with your heart... 146.) Melanie Martinez - "Cry Baby" Promo track, Cry Baby Points: 1900 Chart Run: 45-34-28-24-23-29-42 (7 weeks) O87lzhoexyA So I wasn't entirely sure if this was a single but I heard it on Teens React and it had a cool video so I decided to chart it. Oh well. I never really got into Melanie's work fully (I liked Carousel but that was about it in my knowledge on her) until American radio decided to jump onto Pity Party and it's pretty much a journey throughout. She has a very... interesting aesthetic; it's very much like a nursery, only more pastel goth and at the same time acrylic, which is the weirdest analogy I could think of. But it somehow works. This has a similar structure to Carousel in that it's very minimal but sounds almost like a nursery rhyme in the background. She sings about people who get upset easily (*cough* TUMBLR *cough*) but does it in a very childish manner, which sets the tone for the entire album. However, she turns around and admits that she's one of those people too. It's like coming out and calling people out on their BS, but checking yourself because you have done that too and you don't want to be a hypocrite. It's something a lot of people should learn.
December 4, 20177 yr Author Does he know another's hands have touched my skin? 145.) Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello - "I Know What You Did Last Summer" Lead single, Handwritten Revisited Points: 1909 Chart Run: 48-42-36-32-23-20-34 (7 weeks) ngORmvyvAaI Camila's first track here *.* I held off on listening to this because Stitches kept worming its way into my head and it hadn't peaked yet around the world (God knows why not), so its chart life suffered as a result. It's among his more upbeat tracks and reminds me of "Something Big" which was the first Shawn track I have shown interest to (I despise Life Of The Party). Interestingly enough, it's Camila's oversinging that makes this track as iconic as it is: - "coming home, coming hoooOOOOoooOOOOOOoooOOOOOOOOMMMEEEeee" - "I DONWANNALET YUH GOOOOOOWWWWOOOWOWOOOWWWW, NUH NUH NOOOOOOOOOUUUUUHHH" It's incredibly overdramatic but it somehow works in this situation. The song itself is very angry. Shawn is frustrated because he found out Camila had been cheating on him but he wants her to tell him the truth. Meanwhile Camila is conflicted because she wants to tell him but it would mean losing him as a result. Men cheating on their SO's has been a motif explored a countless number of times, but it's refreshing to see the opposite being depicted. This is Shawn's only appearance. I talked about Treat You Better already and Mercy just didn't grab me as much as I would have liked.
December 4, 20177 yr Author Hear our hearts beat together... 144.) David Guetta f/Zara Larsson - "This One's For You" Non-album single Points: 1972 Chart Run: 41-35-27-26-25-26-34-46 (8 weeks) MoHnffhBwqs David Guetta managed to release a couple singles and yet we're still waiting on an album. This one was created more for Euro 2016, which is a European soccer/football tournament, so it's like a discount FIFA World Cup anthem without Shakira's vocals. Zara applies enough energy to help bring forth the song's overwhelming energy, and it's executed so fluidly. There's really not much more to say about this track except that I hope this is on the album and not whatever that Would I Lie To You cover was. I miss when he was a radio juggernaut, he would have helped propel Zara to some bigger success in the US. :(
December 4, 20177 yr Author 'Cause I'm dyin' to give it to someone... 143.) Pentatonix f/Tink - "Can't Sleep Love" Lead single (not including covers), Pentatonix Points: 2162 (10578 in 2015) Chart Run: 48-37-32-23-19-16-10-6-5-7-7-8-11-20-27-36-45 (5 weeks (12 in 2015)) gYPqJ7wqjTM I... wasn't aware this was gonna stay that long on the chart. It ended up dropping pretty quickly because around January I was ready to let go of all the songs from last year and this was among the first to go. Seventeen weeks is pretty good for a song that barely got recognition from radio. I'm just gonna copy what I said in my last EOY here: Give me that caaaaaaaan't sleeeeeeeep looooove    Pentatonix are an acapella group who got their start in the reality singing competition The Sing-Off (which they won!!!) and ended up becoming super famous on YouTube for their amazing cover compilations. Scott and Mitch also host their own YouTube channel called SuperFruit, and they get asked some PTX questions there as well. Anyway, the have since released their first studio album with a mix of original songs and covers, and the lead single is absolute FIRE. This was one of the songs I hoped would catch on in the Buzzjack mainframe, let alone across the world, but alas nothing is meant to be. The best parts about this song are Scott's voice, Mitch's falsetto and Tink's rap. I honestly thought Mitch stole the show here, but the song is cohesive on its own anyway. Also this was an act I considered for the Christmas BJSC spin-off.Mitch's voice is still flawless. Interestingly, Kirstin was a potential for BJSC. I haven't gotten into Superfruit's discography yet.
December 4, 20177 yr Author I still can’t get over the sex we had... 142.) New Politics - "Girl Crush" 3rd single, Vikings Points: 2172 Chart Run: 45-42-34-34-31-31-29-25-25-28-38 (8 weeks (3 in 2015)) 4f-QHwx8eeI So this song prides itself on being batshit crazy. I found it hilarious how over the top it is, let alone how much it sounds like something The Offspring would put out. That's kinda what was charming about it. The sound in itself was an allusion to late 1990's/early 2000's punk rock days, and although it sounds a little dated, it manages to keep itself fresh. It's no "West End Kids" but it's still a pretty decent track from them.
December 4, 20177 yr Author We can all get some, yeah, we can all get paid... 141.) 5 Seconds of Summer - "Hey Everybody!" Chart Points: 2172 (3294 in 2015) 2nd single, Sounds Good Feels Good Chart Run: 35-27-25-27-23-19-18-18-15-22-35-49 (5 weeks (12 in total)) xPGbvv4IhNU lmao I forgot this song existed I find 5SOS to be extremely underrated. At least during this era. During a grocery trawl, I came across a copy of Alternative Press magazine, and among the albums being reviewed was a 5SOS album. That got me thinking, "It's pretty sad that they co-exist with boy bands because they end up getting the same treatment." It's Blink-182 and Backstreet Boys all over again - they can coexist whilst product img different subgenres of pop, and besides, this isn't straying too far from the likes of, say, "What's My Age Again?". Now that I got that off my chest: this song is pop punk at its finest - and I say that having grown up during the main punk eras. It's a feel-good track with the premise that things will turn around for people who work hard. And what better way to tie it all up than with another crazy video. Luke should wear ties more often. okay i think that's enough for today
December 4, 20177 yr Just given 'Girl Crush' a listen, it sounds quite nice but I definitely prefer their new output!
December 4, 20177 yr Author Don't you say Charlie's face is punchable :nono: :kink:do you not see that single cover?? Just given 'Girl Crush' a listen, it sounds quite nice but I definitely prefer their new output! It’s definitely one of their weaker singles for me, there was much stronger material on that album.
December 4, 20177 yr Author You make me bigger and I make you crumble... 140.) Audien f/Deb’s Daughter- "Crazy Love" Non-album Single Points: 2179 Chart Run: 43-42-34-31-31-26-25-26-35-48 (10 weeks) NgzlmUmwJJc Audien managed to deliver a ton with “Something Better” and then opts to experiment with his sound in “Crazy Love”. This is a more tropical pop offering compared to his other stuff, but it’s still a neat track. The lyrics talk of a rather tumultuous relationship, but it’s something they’re both used to. Ech. That can’t be healthy.
December 4, 20177 yr I can't at Audien selling out to future bass  At least his most recent single 'Message' sees him going back to progressive house, maybe he'll eventually make his way back to progressive trance too?
December 4, 20177 yr Author You got to know that everyone falls... 139.) Tory Lanez - "LUV” 2nd Single, I Told You Points: 2321 Chart Run: 39-31-30-29-26-24-26-35 (8 weeks) P9rFeGAdX0A Yaaaay a CanCon :) It’s a very interesting rap song that makes an interpolation of a song called “Everyone Falls In Love”. I think I heard a Play-N-Skillz version of this song as well. It has a very interesting structure as well; it feels more minimal and less in-your-face than most other rap songs, which is a relief. I did get quickly bored of it though. Also apparently the lyrics are “Neefi let me love you, love you, love you for long time baby”.
December 4, 20177 yr Author Let's find a light inside our universe now... 138.) Ariana Grande - "Focus” Non-album Single Points: 2331 Chart Run: 1-2-2-3-4-6-8-11-14-21-25-30-33-34-36-41-45 (9 weeks (17 weeks total)) lf_wVfwpfp8 It was kinda already on its way out at the point of the new year so seeing it this low on the EOY was expected but it feels rather high because it hung around that 30-40 position range for a while. All it is is a funky feel-good track that tries to rise on the success of Problem and ends up flopping because of it. It’s a guilty pleasure though, and among Ariana’s many #1’s in my chart, so it’s a win for her.
December 4, 20177 yr Author I would do anything to have you by my side... 137.) Adam Lambert - "Another Lonely Night” 2nd Single, The Original High Points: 2405 Chart Run: 49-41-36-27-28-25-24-20-20-35-50 (7 weeks (11 weeks total)) JT_xnNh5wbE Oh yeah this song. I had been really into Adam Lambert previously and his latest single kinda invigorated that, so that’s part of the reason why this charted. It’s not as good as Ghost Town so I think the peak for this is about right. It has Adam lamenting over spending his lonely days thinking about his SO leaving him and it’s kinda depressing but it’s perfect for that winter slump so I guess it kinda fits?
December 5, 20177 yr Author This love’s like fire and ice... 136.) Ellie Goulding - "Still Falling For You” Soundtrack Single, Bridget Jones’ Baby Points: 2552 Chart Run: 46-41-33-29-30-25-23-23-31-45 (10 weeks) pvP_OwVSFpk Another one that I really liked and was sure that it would make the top 20 but then got old rather quickly. It’s another pulsating movie ballad from Ellie which I kinda expected after the likes of “Love Me Like You Do” and “Army”. It unfortunately didn’t seem to have the same effect as the former but it was still pretty good to the ears. The instrumental is the best part of the song.
December 5, 20177 yr Author I need to stick around the way you chase round south... 135.) Fleur East - "Sax” Lead Single, Love Sax & Flashbacks Points: 2603 Chart Run: 38-34-30-23-22-22-21-19-26-42 (6 weeks (10 in total)) 3JZ4pnNtyxQ An EXTREMELY fun song and one that takes pride in sounding like “Uptown Funk”. Aaaaand that’s pretty much all the song is. But that’s kinda where the charm lies? It’s something that’s very shouty and funky but it grabs your attention from start to finish and that’s what its job is. Also worth noting that this would be much higher with its 2015 points.
December 5, 20177 yr Author But in my heart, I understand... 134.) Calvin Harris - "My Way” Non-album Single Points: 2618 Chart Run: 40-32-28-22-21-20-35-49 (8 weeks) b4Bj7Zb-YD4 I literally SCREAMED after looking at the lyrics for the first time. Calvin explains this as succeeding in getting out of something you thought was good for you, and immediately I thought “is this about Taylor? Is he doing a Taylor on Taylor?” Unfortunately only Taylor can do such things and this never took off. This song sonically isn’t too dissimilar from “This Is What You Came For” but it does use more guitar which he’ll incorporate in future material (more to come in his 2017 write-ups). It feels very resigned and at the same time liberating, like he knows his career’s in danger but he doesn’t really care and he’s rather just do the one thing he loves. It’s a rather pretty song in itself but never really has an encapsulating moment unlike most of his other songs. The “my way! o-ay-o-ay-o-ay” chants are cool.
December 5, 20177 yr do you not see that single cover?? I did and I saw his beautiful face  :P Ellie Goudling and Ariana too low :( But glad to see them here  same with Sax. My Way however....two high...:P
