December 5, 20177 yr Author Gasping for your air and we flow... 133.) Nicole Millar - "Tremble” 2nd Single, Tremble EP Points: 2689 Chart Run: 48-48-43-39-35-31-29-28-34-27-24-27-40 (13 weeks) IPhxjNDnEi0 The BJSC entry that never was </3 I would have had two winners and a giant Q streak right now and I wouldn’t have tried so hard last year :P The big thing about this song is that it has a “Where Are U Now”-esque breakdown that explodes in your face after a good minute of teasing. It’s very chill and breezy in the beginning but something feels misleading about this. The buildup adds more of a tribal feel to this. It’s pretty much a trifecta for doing a “Spotify” song pretty well.
December 5, 20177 yr Author I did and I saw his beautiful face  :P Ellie Goudling and Ariana too low :( But glad to see them here  same with Sax. My Way however....two high...:PFocus was actually top 50 in the 2015 EOY! So with its combined points it would probably be top 40 :P
December 6, 20177 yr Author Finally, I can see the light through the leaves... http://poponandon.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Screen-Shot-2015-12-18-at-12.42.36-PM.png 132.) JR JR - "Gone (Robert DeLong Remix)” Lead Single, JR JR Points: 2738 Chart Run: 36-26-22-22-21-26-34-42 (8 weeks) 25n_zH_UYpg And here's the song that I ended up sending! Kinda weird that this ended up over Tremble in the end but that's what happens when you get a surprise top 15. It's not necessarily among my favorites though. It's actually a very wistful remix of a song that is otherwise very dark and depressing at the start but becomes a self-realization anthem. It's very resigned into thinking that they can't be what other people expect, and that's a common theme in music that always gets me. Couple that with whistling and you get something that's light-hearted and takes you away to paradise. Thank God I found this while I was at Hawaii.
December 6, 20177 yr Author You made my heart break and that made me who I am... 131.) Little Mix - “Shout Out To My Ex” Lead Single, Glory Days Points: 2744 Chart Run: 48-38-36-33-27-26-27-24-21-... (9 weeks) bFDzhKdrN9M So I did talk about Glory Days earlier and mentioned that this was a monster song. I guess it really fit in with the anthemic “f*ck your exes” theme that has been omnipresent in music since Taylor Swift broke out. Their attitude and delivery gives the song a new edge and makes it feel more relatable: * the “this is a shout out to my EX” opener * the “Ugly Heart”-esque chorus * the rushing production It’s pretty much a standard pop track and that’s what gets me the most - that groups are not afraid to put out standard pop tracks without having tweaks in them that make them sound so current it feels generic. Also, “I hope she getting better sex/hope she ain’t faking it like I did” is so scathing and personal :P
December 7, 20177 yr Author It feels like heaven with you... 130.) Shaun Frank & KSHMR f/Delaney Jane - “Heaven” Non-album Single Points: 2788 Chart Run: 44-38-28-26-27-28-26-22-21-30-43 (11 weeks) GOuHbx7krCk Yaaaay a CanCon :) [2] This was a song first made known in BJSC but then ended up getting a few adds in Canadian radio stations so predictably since I follow that chart I gave it another chance and it grew on me much more. This never really took off there. It feels much more hesitant and inhibited than most of KSHMR’s work, but that may be the influence of Shaun in there. Delaney’s vocals are airy and alluring, so much that it causes some kind of euphoria within the listener. I’m guessing that’s the main purpose of the song. It kinda burned off on me quickly once I was forgetting about it.
December 7, 20177 yr Author Tone down that walk, I'm getting too excited... 129.) Jordan Fisher - “Lookin’ Like That” 2nd Single, Jordan Fisher EP Points: 2872 Chart Run: 43-35-28-25-26-19-19... (7 weeks) o8KxzP8YFEk My discoveries outside BJSC either come from other personal charts (so mostly dance), international (mainly Australian/Canadian) charts, or Radio Disney. This fits firmly into the latter. So I knew of Jordan Fisher from Teen Beach Movie but never realized he made music until he released his first single (still to come). Then that got sent to Unknown Pleasures (god knows why) and I got into it then. That’s something for a different write up. “Lookin’ Like That” plays into the 24K Magic type of production that always seems to go well with me. It feels a bit redundant but it’s less than three minutes long so it never overstays its welcome. Jordan seems fit for the more funky production. That said, this feels a bit too high for only seven weeks. That extra week at #19 really helped.
December 7, 20177 yr Author I'm addicted like it's wrong... 128.) Dawin - "Dessert" Chart Points: 2911 Non-album single Chart Run: 46-45-46-39-34-27-26-26-23-17-16-16-15-17-14-16-25-36-50 (6 weeks (18 weeks total)) NZp_axebSfQ WHAT’CHA GON WHAT’CHA GON DO WITH THAT DESSERT DOO WA DOOWA DEE DA DOOWADEE DA DOO WA DOOWA DEE DA DOOWADEE DA DOO WA DOOWA DEE DA DOOWADEE DA MURDA DAT MURDA DAT DANCE FLO DANCE DLO This song’s insanely addicting. I first found this through the iTunes Dance genre suggestions for new music and thought it was okay. Then I saw it on both the Australian and New Zealand charts and thought, "okay, this is random". Then it started to smash in the Philippines and i decided to give it a try. I was not let down at all. This is another one of those fun dance songs that you'd get drunk to... after you've had enough drinks to handle already. The Silento remix I can live without simply because he doesn't really add anything that enhances nor detracts from my love for it as it is.So yeah nothing’s changed except whenever I listen to this song I keep thinking about that one vine with the Minions. :’)
December 7, 20177 yr Author SOTME and the BJSC/UP entries *.*Lookin’ Like That was never in UP, that was All About Us.
December 7, 20177 yr Author Fooled me twice if I fall for you... 127.) Tinashe f/Chris Brown - "Player" Chart Points: 2918 Non-album single Chart Run: 43-42-32-24-18-15-11-12-12-13-17-19-24-30-39 (7 weeks (16 in total))[ IltwiyqKhEI Lmao another carryover from 2015. This will probably be a recurring pattern. The ever sexy Tinashe lands a spot in the countdown with another Chris Brown feature that ended up peaking higher than his actual lead single this year. While this deserved much more than a #11 peak for 2015 IMO, this spells a lot of high expectations for what Joyride could be. Of course, what would a Tinashe single be without a video that encompasses her incredible dancing - this woman is just talented throughout, and this is the genre for her. The production of this is very slick and sexy, and something about Chris Brown's part just gives it that edge that puts it past the other female R&B gems. See, Buzzjack? He's good for something. So this never ended up on an album which sucks. This has everything to be a worldwide hit and the fact that it never took off is a bit saddening.
December 7, 20177 yr Tremble is a great choice! Such a shame it never really got mainstream :( Ugh I've got Dessert in my head now :P It's one of those songs where the lyrics are so horrendously bad but the drop is a real earworm and it's so iconic that I end up playing it on repeat
December 7, 20177 yr love 'Heaven'! Still one of KSHMR's best for me, shame he's been a bit hit and miss recently.
December 8, 20177 yr Author Dan I’m surprised you don’t like this offering, it seems more KSHMR by the books than Heaven: AnKvKo7VJqk
December 8, 20177 yr Author She just wants a life for her baby... 126.) Clean Bandit f/Sean Paul & Anne-Marie - “Rockabye” 2nd Single - TBA Points: 2968 Chart Run: 43-38-34-32-28-28-23-13-... (8 weeks) papuvlVeZg8 Kind of a fun song and one that immediately grabbed me unlike the other Clean Bandit songs that took a while to grow on me. Sean Paul is obviously iconic “DAILY STRUGGLE”/“FOR ALL DA SINGLE MOMS OUT DERE”/“Don bodda cry” (it’s like Cheap Thrills on steroids), but Anne-Marie’s more sympathetic and gentle tone complete the essence of this song. The song praises the strong will of single moms and the sacrifices they’re willing to make for their children, so it makes sense to have that sort of tone. Sonically it’s a bit more generic than their normal output and much more percussive, but that doesn’t really bother me. 10/10 will recommend for your baby.
December 8, 20177 yr Author Kissing up on fences and up on walls... 125.) Troye Sivan - “Wild” Lead/3rd Single - Blue Neighborhood Points: 3004 Chart Run: 45-44-43-40-35-31-27-24-23-18-17-30-45 (7 weeks (13 in total)) fdXNNveYOfU who tf is trying to confuse me with them single releases, I recognize this as the lead single There is a sort of innocence to this song that gives it that apparent charm that draws you in. Maybe it’s the children chanting “wi-i-i-ild, wi-i-i-ild, HEY”, or the more calm atmosphere but you get the sense that Troye wants to revisit that. But at the same time, he’s depicting something that LGBT youth feel all the time - there’s love involved but prejudice is the main obstacle. He wants to escape it all because his desire to be with the one he loves is stronger than some social norm. It’s very enlightening and fits within the scope of the album as a whole. I didn’t really think much of the Alessia Cara version, the message is more clear when Troye is solo.
December 8, 20177 yr Author Hope you're good at keeping secrets... 124.) Cashmere Cat f/Selena Gomez & Tory Lanez - “Trust Nobody” 2nd Single - 9 Points: 3081 Chart Run: 41-35-33-28-24-24-25-21-23-... (9 weeks) 1Vn1BXfsd4Q I think in terms of Selena’s musical journey it’s not an atypical choice for her but the fact that Cashmere Cat has not gotten any hits aside from the odd rhythmic format hit makes this atypical success-wise. It’s a fun track, albeit a bit minimal for my tastes, but considering it sounds a lot like some of the Revival tracks and what was in at the time, it made sense. Meh. Not really much to say after that.
December 8, 20177 yr Dan I’m surprised you don’t like this offering, it seems more KSHMR by the books than Heaven: AnKvKo7VJqkI quite like it but it didn't stand out enough to get more than a few plays from me, I might give it another chance though as I still have it on my bubblin under playlist.
December 8, 20177 yr Author I was lost and uncertain, but my heart was still mine... 123.) Gwen Stefani - “Make Me Like You” 2nd Single - This Is What The Truth Feels Like Points: 3127 Chart Run: 48-38-29-25-24-24-22-23-31-50 (10 weeks) 0uljUDtv1Kw So I was addicted to this song for a while but radio barely played it so that explains why it peaked so low in the end. It’s a more funky offering from Gwen and something that I naturally would have expected even if it wasn’t Sweet Escape part 2. The melodramatic delivery makes this song for me. Meh. I wish this did better commercially.
December 8, 20177 yr Author Killing it oh so easily... 122.) Tiësto & Oliver Heldens f/Natalie La Rose - “The Right Song” Non-album Single Points: 3147 Chart Run: 43-39-32-36-23-19-20-22-37 (9 weeks) JxEiIeoet6Q One of the random dance hits that managed to chart and one of the many dance songs that Tiësto has slapped his name on to make it look like he had a part in this. Originally an instrumental called “Wombass” (yikes who would want that name), the bass just echoes throughout your speakers/earbuds. Natalie also gives it an extra spice. Nine weeks feels a little too short but it really got by with those two weeks in the top 20. It’s gonna take a lot for Oliver to top “Gecko (Overdrive)” but we’ll see what else he has in store. What the freak even happened to Natalie La Rose? She hasn’t released anything since this and I find that sad. :(
December 8, 20177 yr Author And the truth will always haunt me... 121.) Clean Bandit f/Louisa Johnson - “Tears” Lead Single, TBA Points: 3183 Chart Run: 47-38-35-26-22-21-19-23-33-42 (10 weeks) dc-nyGo0aC8 (Now I see why I keep getting bored with these... the points totals have literally nothing between them :P) Clean Bandit are known for adding a slight soul element to their offerings, even in their more commercial efforts like “Rockabye”. This current era feels almost like an experiment - it’s almost as if they’re asking “what kind of subgenre can we interpolate this time?” In this case it’s expanding on their garage influences and turning it into some nu-Disco track. Louisa just happens to be the perfect pick for this type of song - her singing style is strong and yet full of pain, which highlights that part of the song well. This... didn’t have as high of a burn rate as I thought it would have...
