December 11, 20177 yr Author This time I might not make it... 106.) Belly f/The Weeknd - "Might Not" Chart Points: 4387 Lead single, Up For Days Chart Run: 50-47-37-32-30-29-27-23-23-19-19-22-35 (13 weeks) u1YRjCTxR80 Another rap song that follows a similar style to The Weeknd's lead credit songs, so obviously I was going to gravitate towards this. It fits the aesthetic and Belly complements the song even more. He has yet to top something like this despite him being around for years. That chorus flows excellently across the entire song. Honestly this doesn't even feel like Belly's song.
December 11, 20177 yr Author Saving my love for a rainy day... 105.) Bright Lights f/3LAU - "Runaway" Chart Points: 4399 Non-album single Chart Run: 42-34-34-31-28-27-19-18-17-30-46 (11 weeks) -TsxxhRyRZc It's kinda fitting that I think this is 3LAU's best effort to date. The song comes out swinging despite it being all buildup for the first couple seconds. It's really interesting because songs like this would take around a minute and a half to get to the breakdown and that gets a bit boring. Meanwhile this song goes hard from the get-go, and that's refreshing to hear in EDM. Bright Lights defines this track, singing the lyrics in a very commanding way. To be honest, I prefer 3LAU creating songs more like this rather than what he's been putting out right now. "Star Crossed" was decent but it never really got to me like this.
December 11, 20177 yr 115.) Meghan Trainor f/Yo Gotti - “Better” 3rd Single, Thank You Points: 3572 Chart Run: 38-27-24-19-16-16-30-45 (8 weeks) It was very refreshing to listen to Meghan take on more current trends in music rather than the doo-wop styles from her previous album and the obvious 2000’s sound in “No” (+ “Me Too” being “Scream & Shout” lite), so to see this clearly flop was a bit... underwhelming. It’s another empowering breakup anthem but one that sounds very calm and collected, more or less resigned to the fact that her ex is trash. Yo Gotti’s part tries to contradict this but at the same time admitting he’s trash.Yes!! I honestly feel like this was the best direction for her to go, except that radio was giving up on her no matter what. I love this single and it....well, deserved better.
December 11, 20177 yr Author someone should count how many times I repeat words in my write-ups, that would be an interesting read also Me Too was probably what triggered Meghan's descent, but that's for another write-up. Better's campaign was probably the best handled out of all her singles bar maybe AATB and Marvin Gaye (and that was for Charlie's campaign!) in terms of chart atmosphere and the music video - nothing flashy or in danger of being problematic, just a story that tugged at the heartstrings.
December 11, 20177 yr Nice to see 3LAU appear here, Runaway is pretty good, I'm liking Walk Away that he released recently it's so chill and nice
December 12, 20177 yr Author Jealousy, envy, madness... 104.) Tinashe - "SuperLove" Chart Points: 4414 Non-album single Chart Run: 46-36-31-28-22-16-15-16-24-37 (10 weeks) hv44srAsAo4 I really dig the production in this song. It's like UK garage meets the Running Man Challenge. Tinashe's songs are pretty much fun to dance to and become jams in their own right because they're so energetic. In particular, this song's energy is fused within its many hooks ("F*ck that shit I'm passionate", "Banana all in that split, bet them girls can't do you like this", "They will never love youuuuuuuuu"), and they pump you up.
December 12, 20177 yr Author As my kiss goes down you like some sweet alcohol... 103.) Dua Lipa - "Hotter Than Hell" Chart Points: 4501 3rd single, Dua Lipa Chart Run: 41-35-35-26-24-19-16-17-19-24-36 (11 weeks) fEOyePhElr4 or as a Teen Wolf fan would like to call it "Hotter Than Hale" :P (Joseph knows) The first of two Dua Lipa songs, I thought "Be The One" was decent but it was hella overrated on Buzzjack and that kinda put me off of her stuff for a while. So naturally I wasn't too excited for it at first. However, when listening to it, I felt some sort of adrenaline rush from it. That is exactly the feeling that I want in a song like this. It uses tropical elements, sucks the mainstream factor out of them but then blends the experimental and mainstream together into one amazing song to absorb. Of course there was a song that did much better and we'll get to that later. That alcohol line is so addicting and flows so well with the song, and I love how Dua sings it and that's pretty much the highlight in terms of lyrics.
December 12, 20177 yr Author I just need space to do me, get a world that they're tryna see... http://static.djbooth.net/pics-tracks/g-eazy-me-myself-i.jpg 102.) G-Eazy f/Bebe Rexha - "Me, Myself & I" Chart Points: 4986 Lead single, When It's Dark Out Chart Run: 46-39-34-31-33-28-23-22-20-17-16-20-30-48 (11 weeks) bSfpSOBD30U So I think I randomly saw this taking off in airplay and I was kinda confused, so I listened to it and didn't get it. Then I listened to it again and kinda liked it. By like another 5-6 listens I was already hooked. It's a very dark and deep song and it kinda fits the aesthetic of walking around the city late at night while trying to find your car, but you don't really care because you like the isolation. Of course overplay killed it but that's to be expected when it kinda just blew up out of nowhere. I think this song fits G-Eazy's work ethic perfectly: he knows his goals but the only way he can reach them is to be himself. It's a very sincere and humble way of thinking and it's nice to see stuff like this reflected in hip hop minus all the glitz and glamor. It's simple and to the point. I miss songs like this that aren't rammed into your head way past its prime (cough Remember The Name cough).
December 12, 20177 yr Author Drive highways and byways to be there with you ... http://fistintheair.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/500x500.jpg 101.) Niall Horan - "This Town (Tiësto Remix)" Chart Points: 5091 Lead single, Flicker Chart Run: 45-47-42-39-39-31-27-22-22-18-12-11... (12 weeks) kHz0ifiF_7E ic1l36GrNOU Speaking of humble-sounding tracks... So this actually took a while to grow on me because I wasn't really into the whole Niall trying to be Ed thing and I get that's his post-1D schtick. So this lingered for a while in the lower end of my chart. However, I found the Tiesto remix and it skyrocketed because of it. I think it's because it speeds it up a bit and it sounds like it doesn't drag as much as the original does. Lyrically it's a very "Ed Sheeran's debut album" track but yeah that's Niall as an artist, Ed just somehow managed to do it first. Niall has a gentleness to his voice that makes this special, it actually sounds like a serenade. This managed to get this close to the top 100 despite not having peaked yet but it did get pipped at the last minute!
December 12, 20177 yr Author Sometimes you gotta take a chance to break through... 100.) Craig David & Sigala - "Ain't Giving Up" Chart Points: 5309 4th single, Following My Intuition Chart Run: 35-28-21-22-20-19-17-16-14... (9 weeks) FC9fc12YYC4 yaaaay top 100 now! "Ain't Giving Up" is probably the first time I've given a shit about Craig David since Insomnia (I did like "When The Bassline Drops" but not enough to chart it :P). The inclusion of Sigala has made this much different that what he normally puts out and it gives it some more life than just splattering on UK garage beats and calling it a day. It complements the lyrics more and gives it a more triumphant and feel-good vibe. I actually thought that this would end up being a #1 for me but then a lot of songs kept passing it in terms of favorability and I was like welp maybe not :P
December 13, 20177 yr Author I love the way that your breath numbs me like novocaine... 99.) Machine Gun Kelly X Camila Cabello - "Bad Things" Chart Points: 5313 Lead single, Bloom Chart Run: 40-29-23-14-7-4... (6 weeks) QpbQ4I3Eidg apparently this won a Radio Disney award :P How random. Probably another giant surprise for me, considering I didn't think this song would grow on me so fast and so much. It's a lot more commercial than his normal output (previously I had toyed around with the idea of sending him to BJSC, in particular his collab with Lzzy Hale), but that didn't stop me. What I like about it is the catchiness, the pop-friendly hooks (Camila wailing "I only wanna do bad THINGS TO YOU", MGK's "nails scratching my back tat" to name a few), and all of that not stopping him from giving his all. The song sounds very innocent but at the same time there's a sensuality and rough edge to it, and that kinda complements MGK's style? ...It doesn't matter whether this is too commercial or whatever. My boy Colson is out there making bank and the haters are not. (Also of note: the Jump Smokers remix is basically a mashup of this and Marshmello's "Alone" :P)
December 13, 20177 yr Author Baby you're like lightning in a bottle... 98.) BØRNS - "Electric Love" Chart Points: 5457 2nd single, Dopamine Chart Run: 45-38-37-32-23-20-16-13-15-16-28-42 (12 weeks) RYr96YYEaZY Next is some indie thing that somehow wormed its way into pop radio but upon listening to this I was kinda hooked. I dunno why but everything about this song feels so effortless? Like there's some hard rock edge but it sounds like you're floating on a cotton candy cloud. Everything just took me aback but it lulled me into a sense of security. It's a really good song to lie down to on the beach with a cocktail by your side. I'm surprised this charted for so long but I wish it lasted longer. I really did get tired of songs easily back then.
December 13, 20177 yr Author This time I ain’t gonna run away... 97.) Galantis - "No Money" Chart Points: 5566 Lead single, The Aviary Chart Run: 49-44-41-28-21-18-19-15-14-16-23-36 (12 weeks) xUVz4nRmxn4 I absolutely ADORED "Runaway (U & I)" and loved "Peanut Butter Jelly" (plus charted another song by them which didn't do much) but this one felt a bit weird at first. It was the "Changes"-like children chanting that caught me off guard and I didn't expect that from Galantis. It's a more bouncy track from them but the hesitation in the buildup and fun drop make this a tune.

This was a song that I was exposed to on plug and she's a very hyped artist on Buzzjack. It took a lot of time to grow on me but it finally did around the end of July (amongst all the hype surrounding my family reunion back then). Yeah, it's a fun song; it's very boisterous for the most part which kinda fits my personality and music tastes, and it paces itself enough to keep me interested despite never taking me to that high point where I forget everything that's happened. That "the music go-o-o-o-o-o-oes" hook is really catchy. Yeah, it's no patch on Lean On but it still makes me interested to hear what else she has to offer. Even if it ends up being only the features that chart.
December 13, 20177 yr Author If you're looking for someone to write your breakup songs about... 95.) One Direction - "Perfect" Chart Points: 5657 2nd single, Made In The A.M. Chart Run: 47-41-21-9-4-1-3-4-5-7-7-11-13-12-15-20-23-29-34-39-45 (11 weeks (21 in total)) Ho32Oh6b4jc I'm still kinda in denial that this is probably the last 1D single I'll be charting for a while (as far as the quartet goes) but we still have Zayn coming up! I dunno why I never got into "History". It was a decent song. Another song that never goes out of style is One Direction's "Perfect". Also the last one to chart before the actual announcement of their hiatus. It grew on me in a big way, kinda while I was preparing all the year-ends, and I was predicting this to be a bit lower than it actually is. That week at #1 in this chart really helped them. Anyway, this was pinned by many to be the response to Taylor Swift's "Style", with similar production, Taylor-inspired lyrics ("If you're looking for someone to write your break-up songs about"), and of course, this part of the video, with a smoke projection similar to Taylor's video: http://cdn2.crushable.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/One-Direction-Perfect-video.gif It's a lot more than that though: they're saying that they might not be THE perfect guy, but they can be A perfect guy.So I checked who produced this because I thought it was Max Martin and it WASN'T, which surprised me because it sounded a lot like his productions. Good on them. This ended up being among my stronger #1's and would be at least top 30 here with its 2015 points. 1D in general are a strong act in my charts, both solo and as a cohesive unit.
December 13, 20177 yr Love that "Magnets", "Me, Myself & I", "This Town", "Ain't Giving Up", "No Money", "Final Song" and especially "Hotter Than Hell" is in your Year-End Chart! Love all those songs!
December 14, 20177 yr Author This next one will be a difficult post Just means there's way more cake for me... 94.) Melanie Martinez - "Pity Party" Chart Points: 5700 Lead (?) single, Cry Baby Chart Run: 49-41-31-21-21-17-15-16-16-18-27-42 (12 weeks) 6bAPlojfgO0 ...yeah this is awkward. I wish I had written this before everything happened. Leaving all the scandal/hate/controversy aside, this song is actually pretty catchy and a nice way to go against the grain of what's popular in the charts, so I kinda understood why some radio stations leaped at this song at the given chance. I kinda said the same thing about "Cry Baby" earlier on. The Lesley Gore sample provides a nice hook as well as the "I'm laughing, I'm crying" middle 8. I just kinda wish it took off because that not happening is the only thing that justifies this song not getting a top 10 on this chart.
December 14, 20177 yr Author Now you're just a page torn from the story I'm living... 93.) MIIA - "Dynasty (Elephante Remix)" Chart Points: 5734 2nd (?) single, I Am The Elephante Chart Run: 39-28-18-12-13-15-17-24-31-40 (10 weeks) s1Hn7cLgemo And here's my January 2016 BJSC entry! For a while this was my most played song on Spotify according to Spotify.me (which is a load of shit considering I haven't listened to it that much since March-ish). The original is a strong ballad but that doesn't really grab my attention, so I came across this listening to Elephante (he had a BJSC entry a while back) and I was sold on both the future bass drop and the Zedd-like one that followed after that. It's a bit generic but that last minute is absolutely worth it.
December 14, 20177 yr Author I used to say that love was just a fool's game... 92.) Imani Williams f/Sigala & Blonde - "Don't Need No Money" Chart Points: 5735 Non-album single Chart Run: 48-38-29-24-17-13-10-13-19-25-35-50 (12 weeks) Gb0zSG0kwZ8 I charted four Sigala songs in 2016, one of them being "Say You Do" which featured her. This time she's the lead artist and the song sounds more like a Sigala song than one of DJ Fresh's attempts to make a genre chimera. Sigala's songs tend to follow the same structure; there's a piano interlude, and the build-up just collates more energy until the valve finally bursts open. This also has a bit of deep house thanks to Blonde. It's very jumpy and something that lightens up the mood.
December 14, 20177 yr Author There’s a rifle in the cabinet that I used to fight a war... 91.) Robin Schulz & J.U.D.G.E. - "Show Me Love" Chart Points: 5778 3rd single, Sugar Chart Run: 39-33-31-27-21-20-18-15-17-17-25-40 (12 weeks) DMg8LwfXdyc "Will you show me love as we get older?" is such a strong hook. Robin Schulz has been capable of remixing or delivering strong tracks that grab your attention, whether it be the distant and harsh chorus of "Prayer In C" or the funky Baby Bash sample in "Sugar". This was much different. This had the flavor of a Robin Schulz song but it was very emotionally charged. Richard Judge sings the lyrics with desperation, almost like he's saddened that all these wounds are opening and he wants everything to stop.
