December 14, 20177 yr Author When you get weak I'll make you strong again... 90.) Sigala f/John Newman & Nile Rodgers - "Give Me Your Love" Chart Points: 5889 4th single, TBA Chart Run: 42-29-25-21-16-11-12-15-23-33-44 (10 weeks) ze6H75NCUs8 Absolutely hypnotic and will get you off your seat in no time. That drop pretty much makes this song and excuses John Newman for sounding like a goat the entire time. It's pretty short and it gets the job done without outstaying its welcome. It's a bit surprising that this didn't reach the top 10 at all here.
December 14, 20177 yr Give Me Your Love  Sigala kept bringing out the great tunes in 2016! I've not been as taken by his recent stuff though :(
December 14, 20177 yr That Elephante remix of Dynasty  his album was outstanding but I've not loved his more recent releases Give Me Your Love is a banger too :music:
December 19, 20177 yr Author It ain't about the complications, I'm all about the elevation... 89.) Justin Bieber - "Company" Chart Points: 5911 4th single, Purpose Chart Run: 45-29-27-19-13-11-10-16-25-42 (10 weeks) gdx7gN1UyX0 The Purpose singles really lasted with me for the duration of the year (other than WDYM because that was already a bit old), and this is the first of three. It's also the first of Bieber's five appearances here. This ended up not doing as well as the other singles due to it not really doing well IRL, it pretty much peaked and then dropped off the face of the earth. While I do think this could have done much better in retrospect, there were other viable choices for singles. Children in particular would have done much better. Oh well.
December 19, 20177 yr Author I'm not spending any time, wasting tonight on you... 88.) Selena Gomez - "Same Old Love" Chart Points: 6043 2nd single, Revival Chart Run: 32-9-3-1-1-1-1-3-4-6-5-7-9-11-14-15-19-20-17-19-22-24-22-26-28-30-32-33-37-36-36-40-42-46-48-49 (21 weeks (36 in total)) 9h30Bx4Klxg *insert Selena & Justin joke here* So this is one of the biggest hits of 2015. It's also Selena's biggest hit on my chart at the moment. This remains a bop. There are so many elements that when combined together would sound like a mess, but for some reason it all clicks for me. The almost cabaret-like atmosphere, the unapologetic attitude, the fact that the chorus doesn't even try to hide Charli XCX (which I found amusing)... I could honestly go on forever. This received a boost in its longevity thanks to it smashing IRL and radio held on to this for as long as it could, which resulted in it lingering on at the low teens/mid 20's range. I think with its 2015 points factored in this could be challenging for top 3.
December 19, 20177 yr Author I was the prototype like 3 Stacks on that CD... 87.) Jon Bellion - "All Time Low" Chart Points: 6137 Lead single, The Human Condition Chart Run: 48-39-38-38-32-26-25-20-20-19-14-15-17-18-... (14 weeks) AXnqkVTFUqY I think I've begun to appreciate weird music structures over the course of the year. This is one of the many examples. I found out about Jon Bellion's discography through "Beautiful Now" (yay more 2015 allusions!) and I heard "Guillotine" and the original version of this song but didn't really get into it because it had a really weird structure. One year later this ended up on the radar again, remastered, and it somehow became an earworm. I think the remaster did an amazing job highlighting the many hooks throughout the song because lyrically it's insanely catchy. The "low-low-low-l-low-low-low-low-low" echo thorughout the chorus was interesting and the highlight of "I- *insert verse here*" also got me. It also feels kinda relatable in a way. Like there are times where you feel like you've hit rock bottom despite all you've done to salvage it, albeit for different reasons that Jon stated in the song but still.
December 19, 20177 yr Author Up at night I'm awake 'cause it haunts me... 86.) Frenship f/Emily Warren - "Capsize" Chart Points: 6148 Lead single, Truce EP Chart Run: 50-41-33-33-31-27-25-21-21-20-17-15-18-21-30-45 (16 weeks) kOyBhtPF5aw Another one of those songs that just snuck up on me. It was a BJSC entry prior to its worldwide impact (where it blended with like five other songs), so hearing it in an isolated manner felt much more refreshing. It highlights that depressed phase post-breakup that people go through, and I think both Frenship and Emily painted that numb feeling very well. The "I'm swimming up against the tide" part is also pretty cool. I don't know why I tend to like these depressing songs so much.
December 19, 20177 yr Author I turned him to gold and it took him higher... 85.) The Chainsmokers f/ROZES - "Roses" Chart Points: 6152 2nd single, Bouquet EP Chart Run: 49-46-36-32-28-24-18-16-15-11-11-6-5-3-3-4-9-14-15-16-18-22-26-33-41 (10 weeks (25 in total)) G5Mv2iV0wkU Another giant end-of-the-year smash comes in at #39, probably helped by its own longevity - it took 15 weeks to peak! I had never actually thought that The Chainsmokers would actually make it big again especially after the quick rise and fall of "#Selfie" (one of my top songs of 2014), but here they are. It's pretty much their most experimental song yet, but it still remains just as pop as their other efforts. Now poised to become a giant hit for 2016, they're looking to keep this momentum going. At first I thought this song had a pretty weak drop, but now I think it was probably their most creative one in their discography. So this was when I thought this was gonna be a random as hell debut and they'd never chart again but I'm glad to be proven wrong and they've brought in two more masterpieces along the way that you'll see later on. This ended up having a lower total score than I thought.
December 19, 20177 yr Author I got a hot sauce in my bag, swag... 84.) Beyoncé - "Formation" Chart Points: 6459 Lead single, Lemonade Chart Run: 42-28-23-19-16-10-11-14-21-28-34-42 (12 weeks) WDZJPJV__bQ The utter catchiness of this song deserves its own post but I don't really have time for that. :P This debuted during the Super Bowl (it was the 50th so she was brought back in along with Bruno Mars who only had Uptown Funk released in the past two years) and for a while that little fragment we had was the only way we could listen to the song because who the hell even has time for Tidal? The song itself is very commanding and has a clear structure, but then devolves into this hyperaggressive chant ("OKAY LADIES NOW LET'S GET IN FORMATION" - honestly iconic), which makes sense since this is a Beyonce song after all. I mean, it's no "WE BE ALL NIGHT, LOOOOOOOOOOVE" but it serves its purpose and she slays so it makes sense. This song will be insanely fun to mix.
December 19, 20177 yr Author We can start fresh if you'd just let go of the past... 83.) Maty Noyes - "In My Mind" Chart Points: 6683 Lead single, Noyes Complaint Chart Run: 45-36-29-26-21-15-13-9-5... (9 weeks) m1g4SpPGUBU In terms of how I discovered this I could basically copy and paste what I said about "Capsize". Thank you, AllAccess. And Joseph. This song feels rather dazed and confined, almost like she's starting to go crazy. Apparently when you're in a relationship for a long time it starts to feel like a simulation where you can't separate yourself from the relationship, so when it takes a tumultuous turn, the results are a bit more dangerous than expected. This song paints that thought process, so it ends up being a bit cathartic. I find it interesting how it sounds like a Kygo song yet I don't think he had anything to do with it. I can't believe the person produced this is also the same person who made the monstrosity known as "Play That Song".
December 19, 20177 yr Author Just put your heart in my hands... 82.) Nathan Sykes f/Ariana Grande - "Over And Over Again (Elephante Remix)" Chart Points: 6690 2nd single, Unfinished Business Chart Run: 45-36-29-26-21-15-13-9-5... (9 weeks) bSPwmJRNM2A 7eiv5aElMZs So the entire thought process for this song went like this: - "Okay, I loved The Wanted, I liked Nathan's last single, I have high hopes" - "ewww why is this a ballad" - "oh it features Ariana now I'm interested" - *remix is released* "HOLY SHIT THIS SOUNDS LIKE A LOST ZEDD SONG" I find it interesting that Elephante is also another DJ who is capable of replicating Zedd's sound. Too bad they didn't play that version on the radio. The way Ariana's "JUST PUT YOUR HEART IN MY HAAAAAAAANDS" harmony overpowers Nathan in the remix makes this so much better. I feel like this would have been a #1 in another life. Nathan... still so sexy.
December 19, 20177 yr Author This fear of being loved, allegiance to the pain... 81.) Flume f/Kai - "Never Be Like You" Chart Points: 6846 Lead single, Skin Chart Run: 48-43-32-25-18-15-13-10-15-19-23-27-34-42 (14 weeks) -KPnyf8vwXI Another weird structured song that somehow wormed its way into my head. Flume's specialty is wonky and wobbly future bass, in fact so wobbly it almost sounds like dubstep. That gives Kai's vocals the potential for contrast, which she pulls off well. She sounds clear and concise, while the production feels disoriented and confused, and somehow that meshes well together?
December 20, 20177 yr Capsize  A real grower for me last year, such a shame it never went Top 40 :(
December 21, 20177 yr Author Hey, where'd you get that body from? 80.) PSY f/CL of 2NE1 - "Daddy" Chart Points: 7010 Lead single, 칠집싸이다 Chart Run: 19-15-14-13-10-6-7-9-12-19-25-33-41 (9 weeks (13 in total)) FrG4TEcSuRg I was honestly excited about another PSY song after reminiscing on how good "Gangnam Style" and "Gentleman" were. Then this came out and it's pretty much the same style as the first two singles. For this one, he teams up with CL of 2NE1, and she does spectacular despite having only one line repeated. This song is an interpolation of will.i.am's "I Got It From My Mama" (which I also really liked), and the will.i.am-like production really helps its case.It went on to gain double its 2015 points but burned on me really quickly.
December 21, 20177 yr Author We could both touch the sky... 79.) Jordan Fisher - "All About Us" Chart Points: 7391 Lead single, Jordan Fisher EP Chart Run: 43-39-36-37-21-15-13-14-15-11-14-21-29-41 (14 weeks) Mrx9iuLJ9F0 This is the type of music Usher should be releasing now. In fact there are a bunch of Usher-esque elements within this song as a whole (aside from that falsetto, that's clearly something Nick Jonas would do). This for me was a very strong start for someone who is still noticeably within the Disney community and not trying to completely break off and become a sex symbol (hi Nick). Nothing about this felt too gimmicky or too much like he was going the early Bieber route (as much as the lyrics portray otherwise) yet at the same time wasn't trying to be too edgy. It's the dark pop elements that give it that middle ground. I did get more obsessed with it while it was in Unknown Pleasures, but it wasn't a discovery from there.
December 21, 20177 yr Author hey say that time's supposed to heal ya, but I ain't done much healing... 78.) Adele - "Hello" Chart Points: 7447 Lead single, 25 Chart Run: 17-2-1-1-2-2-3-4-6-5-7-11-11-13-16-17-21-25-29-35-42-50 (13 weeks (22 in total)) YQHsXMglC9A Hello... It's me... I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to hear Adele's new music. This was probably the most anticipated song of 2015 and a lot of people were wondering if Adele would match the success she had with her last album. Well, she surely did not disappoint - in fact, "Hello" did that and a lot more. Giant Buzzjack hit, resonated with the the public enough to stay at #1 for two months, and helped her album shatter records set in the beginning of the millennium. Hell, it even got 1 BILLION views on VEVO - it made "Gangnam Style" seem irrelevant, and that was one of the biggest trends this decade. Just comes to show that her talent can never go unnoticed - it's gotten to the point where she can compose a song of herself breathing and it could get to #1 on the pop charts. :P Absolute insanity. It's still impressive that this became as big as it was.
December 21, 20177 yr Author You're ripped at every edge, but you're a masterpiece... 77.) Halsey - "Colors" Chart Points: 7718 Third single, Badlands Chart Run: 46-34-24-19-18-12-8-10-11-17-26-33-43 (13 weeks) JGulAZnnTKA EVERYTHING IS BLUE. HIS PILLS, HIS HANDS, HIS JEANS. Badlands is among my favorite albums this decade, mainly for its rather genuine and organic feel. It's a song about how someone loses their excitement over another, but the irony is that this song doesn't really do that. The lyrics and the soaring production do an equal bang-up job with providing an adrenaline rush throughout its duration. It doesn't feed too much but instead leaves you wanting more. Also, TYLER POSEY.
December 21, 20177 yr Author I transform with pressure, I'm hands-on with effort... 76.) Sia f/Kendrick Lamar - "The Greatest" Chart Points: 7835 Third single, This Is Acting Chart Run: 45-41-34-28-23-19-11-11-10-10-12-18-25... (13 weeks) GKSRyLdjsPA Another song that took forever to grow on me. I feel like the fact that this was actively trying to do what Cheap Thrills did bothered me for a bit until I caved and saw this for what it was. Amongst this being a tribute to the Pulse Nightclub victims, it just felt increasingly catchy and triumphant, so I would end up blasting this in the gym when the time felt right. That echoing of "the greatest, the greatest" felt fun and empowering, and that's what eventually sold me. I could do with or without Kendrick's part, but that's okay. We don't really need to talk about Maddie.
December 21, 20177 yr Author I'm tired of being played like a violin... 75.) Rihanna - "Love On The Brain" Chart Points: 7837 Fourth single, ANTi Chart Run: 48-48-37-27-21-19-18-16-13-8-8-9-... (12 weeks) 0RyInjfgNc4 I will have to admit, I was taken aback by this type of sound coming from Rihanna. It wasn't a booming dancehall anthem nor was it a pulsating club jam. This felt more like a cabaret/hotel lobby song. I felt that Rihanna pulled off the more classic 1920's arrangement, transitioning to smooth and gentle to brash and powerful almost perfectly. With this, I kinda get the hype for Riri's ballads.
