July 13, 20187 yr Well when you conflate communism with socialism, your arguments WILL be ignored Lmao Trump Blimp is up and the right wing is CRYING about it!! My god they need to get out of power. I remember the racist Obama effigies.
July 13, 20187 yr There's a crucial point you are missing here... namely I don't give a sh1t what you think of my opinion. I will express opinions on many subjects, but I no longer feel obliged to explain myself here, given that my explanations tend to be rejected out-of-hand. ...and I think I've made it quite plain I don't give a flying fig about your opinions, but I'm damned if I'm going let any of them stand-alone without challenge because that's how democracy dies, when fake facts become accepted as actual facts if you repeat them often enough. It's my minor hobby knocking that one on the head so I repeat what I believe to be true, on here and in real life, until people either get converted to my point of view or stop telling fake facts in my earshot. I'm not easily offended, I'm ultra-tolerant, but I'm very easy-going - but I'm also blunt when I see wrongs and I speak my mind to whoever. I'm 60, what have I got to lose? Get sacked? I don't think so.... Re: your opinions, but you never have backed them up, and when you try to explain your point of view you invariably contradict yourself, and then have a sulk. That's not MY fault.... On genuine matters of opinion (eg who's the greatest band in the world) I'm happy to hear other points of view because that's a matter of opinion (though it's The Beatles) :P If your belief makes me worse off, and others worse off, though, never gonna stop, always gonna be there to point it out, whoever anyone is. If Trump and May were on here I'd be telling them exactly what I think - oh hang on, I DO tweet on their accounts what I think!
July 13, 20187 yr Define cognitive dissonance - seeing people defending The Sun from being attacked by Donald Trump calling it "fake news". Admittedly many of those are from Americans who are unaware of said paper's fractured relationship with the truth, but interesting nonetheless.

See also Billy Bragg defending Theresa May having seen her being man-handled by Trump.
July 13, 20187 yr The whole lot of them are in it together, so I havr nothing but contempt for thesun AND Trump.
July 14, 20187 yr ...and I think I've made it quite plain I don't give a flying fig about your opinions, but I'm damned if I'm going let any of them stand-alone without challenge because that's how democracy dies, when fake facts become accepted as actual facts if you repeat them often enough. It's my minor hobby knocking that one on the head so I repeat what I believe to be true, on here and in real life, until people either get converted to my point of view or stop telling fake facts in my earshot. But that's what *I* do, too! Re: your opinions, but you never have backed them up, and when you try to explain your point of view you invariably contradict yourself, and then have a sulk. That's not MY fault... Perhaps you could give an example of one of those contradictory opinions, so we could examine it? PS, why has the EU discussion thread been locked? Surely you're not afraid of what I might say? :teresa: Edited July 14, 20187 yr by vidcapper
July 14, 20187 yr An unusually contentious article even for the Mail, this morning... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-...in-live-US.html ROBERT HARDMAN: I don't remember huge protests against world leaders who criminalize homosexuality or stop women voting... so why was Trump cast as the pantomime villain when most of us would rather live in the US?

Surely you're not afraid of what I might say? :teresa: 1. Read all my posts. 2. I don't have any say in what happens in any thread except the Retro Lounge. I'm not afraid of anything you say. Thought that would be quite plain by now. I'm not afraid of anything anyone says. I'm busy keeping my parents alive on a daily basis and I don't have time for bullshit.
Because: "James O'Brien There's a naive belief among decent people that Trump supporters will somehow repent when they see the full extent of his lies and abuses. They're not emboldened enough to admit it yet but they prefer the lies to reality & enjoy the abuses because they're aimed at 'other' people." People like The Daily Fascist. "Richard K Herring I love it when I’ve invited someone round for dinner and spent a shit load of money on them and they’ve told everyone I am a f***ing c**t just before they arrive. Nothing classier than that." Even dictators aren't so f***ing stupid that they slag off the hosts that they supposedly want a trade deal from to help their own interests. Dictators already run their fascist state. Trump is attempting to turn the West into a Russian vassel state. That's why. Something the Mail is in favour of. Why does the paper's owner live abroad? Loves the UK SO much, just like his grandad did when faced with fascism. Good enough?
July 14, 20187 yr 1. Read all my posts. 2. I don't have any say in what happens in any thread except the Retro Lounge. I'm not afraid of anything you say. Thought that would be quite plain by now. I'm not afraid of anything anyone says. But I am not a 'Goodthinker' in Orwellian terms - I refuse to confine my thoughts to those considered politically orthodox. Surely we need people with independent minds to avoid us all being crushed into conformity?
July 14, 20187 yr AKA a change of subject with a ridiculous premise because you are too lazy to google Nazi Germany and pay attention to historical lessons. Replying here, as the original thread has been closed. I've watched 'The World At War', so I suspect I know as much about the Nazis as you do.
July 14, 20187 yr But I am not a 'Goodthinker' in Orwellian terms - I refuse to confine my thoughts to those considered politically orthodox. Surely we need people with independent minds to avoid us all being crushed into conformity? What the hell
July 14, 20187 yr Replying here, as the original thread has been closed. I've watched 'The World At War', so I suspect I know as much about the Nazis as you do. I watched The World At War almost 45 years ago. I certainly wouldn't base my current opinions on a 45-year-old memory.... Did you catch the first episode? You might have been out Trick or Treating that night, Halloween 1973?

You might have been out Trick or Treating that night, Halloween 1973? Err, you do realise it gets regularly repeated on Sky/cable? :P The one thing it doesn't cover is the role of the Bletchley Park codebreakers, as it was made before their contribution was declassified. :(
July 14, 20187 yr You might try reading George Orwell's '1984'. I can assure you I have read more than you. I do not waste my time on the Daily Mail for starters. Perhaps you would like to read 1984 again and see what it is saying about the RIGHT WING, power control and the media? X

Perhaps you would like to read 1984 again and see what it is saying about the RIGHT WING, power control and the media? X perhaps *you* should - the prevailing political system was called IngSoc (short for English Socialism)...
July 15, 20187 yr Err, you do realise it gets regularly repeated on Sky/cable? :P The one thing it doesn't cover is the role of the Bletchley Park codebreakers, as it was made before their contribution was declassified. :( well, strictly speaking, it was made before any documents had been made public about that period, and was influenced by the prevailing mood by people that had lived through it - The War dominated culture well into the 70's - bear in mid it's like people referring back to the late 80's/early 90's nowadays. I don't have time to watch all the sci-fi shows I want to watch, never mind sit through something that depressed me no end 45-years ago all over again. Sorry! Much better to just research facts, and the facts are: Hitler rabbled crowds with promises, victimised non-aryans and non-straights, used the same techniques Trump is using against intellectuals, gradually increased his powers and hold, and did everything that his critics said he would do - the ones that didn't shut up were killed. Most of all, he loved killing people. The more millions the better. Absolutely had no compassion for people. And people went along with it. That means that either everyone is Germany who went along with it were as evil as he is, or else they were duped sheep. That argument applies today.
