I think it should at least confirm it a top 40 position, but fingers crossed it goes top 50 on Spotify on the back of this.

It's a shame that dance music really seems to struggle comparatively in the streaming era. Weird to think just three years ago we had dance number one after another. The last dance number one was KDA/Tinie Tempah/Katy B!

Yeah I was just thinking the other day that it's been 18 months since the last proper EDM Number 1!

we've had a bunch of dance hits making it to #1, Chainsmokers, I Took a Pill, Major Lazer, Rockabye, all of those are dance to me... and many also hitting the top 10...

other genres are far more damaged by streams, i.e. indie

The KDA track heavily relied upon held-back hype sales to get to #1, as its 1-6 chart run reveals. It would have had zero chance if in a fair OA/OS environment of going much higher than low Top 10.

“I Took A Pill In Ibiza” was a genuinely popular dance track #1 and that spent 4 weeks at the top this time last year.

Rockabye definitely counts as a dance song and that spent nine weeks at number one!!

Also we could have Symphony eventually climbing to number one depending on just how popular the Harry Styles track is (should spend at least one week at number one from hype but could have a big second week drop if it's not received well)

I actually think 'Symphony' could be number one next week! It's increasing at a rapid rate and it wouldn't surprise me if by Friday, it's less than 70,000 streams behind Galway Girl (considering they reduced the gap by 80,000 on Monday) which I'm sure they will be able to overcome throughout the week!
OK, yeah dance is quite a broad genre but what I was getting at is KDA was the last "club banger" i.e. high energy EDM dance song to get to No. 1.

That's only because trends in dance music have changed so much recently, most of the big dance hits now are mid-tempo and far more pop-leaning than they are club-friendly ('In Ibiza', 'Closer', 'Rockabye'). We have 'You Don't Know Me' but that's more of an exception.

I'm with you on this one! I think that next weeks top 5 could look like...

There was of course the clubland boom of the late 2000s (Basshunter, Cascada) followed by the Electropop boom (LMFAO, Guetta) of the early 2010s before EDM bounced back.

Yeah that was actually my whole point (though I probably didn't word it very well) - that uptempo dance doesn't seem to do as well these days (with Jax Jones, like you say, being an exception along with Calvin Harris). I think that's the reason acts like Galantis and Sigala are struggling to get big hits like they used to. Disciples would also have been bigger if they'd been releasing their current stuff a couple of years ago. Let's hope Calvin restores order with a big club banger soon!

Even Calvin Harris is changing to mid-tempo dance now. 'Slide' and 'Heatstroke' (his upcoming release) are both mid-tempo and RnB influenced. I think he's realised trends are changing and so won't be releasing club bangers for a while.
