I very highly doubt that political dynasties will be much of a threat in the future. It's just too obvious a criticism when more and more candidates are clearly able to enter the primary field each time.

And of the moment, Trump's children are eminently unqualified but I think Junior is more likely to try his hand than Ivanka, he's been trying to get his name out there and of course he has the advantage in name recognition.

He's a bit young, only about 14 now isn't he? Another 20+ years.

No but he's doing a great job so far.

Mentally perhaps, but Donald Jr is older than fourteen by the usual method of measuring age.

Now this is the question, can Trumpism happen again? There will certainly be those who try, but it will eventually discredit the Republican party from outsiders if their next candidate isn't somewhat more moderate. I think unless Trump has a successor directly follow him in 2024, it will be another generation until it happens again, there's probably going to be a natural response to the system tightening quality control up, particularly if he is impeached as he should.

Over on the other side, progressives and centrists are fighting for the soul of the Democratic Party and I hope that it will be seen that progressivism is the only natural counter to Trump, an exciting campaign that inspires turnout, that inspires something that isn't not-this-awful-Republican-bast*rd.

Oh sorry, thought you meant Barron.

They escaped from the British hereditary monarchy, only to use a different form... ;)

It's true, same happens in Irish politics, all fall for everything and stand for nothing!

You're a damn liar, man': Joe Biden chides voter over accusation about Ukraine

Jeanine Santucci USA TODAY

Published 6:40 PM EST Dec 5, 2019

Democratic frontrunner Joe Biden lashed out at a voter at an Iowa campaign event on Thursday, calling him "a damn liar" for accusing him of "selling access" to the presidency in Ukraine.

The unidentified voter, who said he is a retired farmer and "not a Republican," said he had two problems with Biden: his age and his involvement in Ukraine.

"We all know Trump has been messing around in Ukraine over there, holding their foreign aid," the man said at the gathering in New Hampton. He continued, "But you on the other hand sent your son over there to get a job and work for a gas company, that he had no experience with gas or nothing, in order to get access to the president, so you're selling access to the president just like he was."

"You're a damn liar, man," Biden responded.

President Donald Trump is under investigation in an ongoing impeachment inquiry for allegedly pressuring Ukraine's president to open an investigation into Joe and his son Hunter Biden, and using military aid money as leverage.

Trump has claimed, without credible evidence, that Joe Biden used his influence as the former vice president to get a former Ukraine prosecutor fired in order to help his son, who served on the board of a Ukraine energy company. Biden pushed for the prosecutor's ouster for failing to pursue corruption cases, the consensus among international groups at the time, according to officials.

Explainer: Biden, allies pushed out Ukrainian prosecutor because he didn't pursue corruption cases

"That's not true," Biden contended, responding to the man's accusation. "And no one has ever said that."

"The hell it ain't, I've seen it on TV," the voter interjected.

"You've seen it on the TV. No, I know you do, and by the way that's why you—I'm not sedentary, I get up and..." Biden said. As a staffer tried to take the microphone back from the town hall attendee, Biden said to "let him go."

"Look, the reason I'm running is because I've been around a long time and I know more than most people know, and I can get things done, that's why I'm running," Biden said. "And you want to check my shape, fine, let's do push-ups together here, man, let's run, let's do whatever you want to do. Let's take an IQ test."

As the attendee started to protest that he never accused Biden of wrongdoing, Biden appeared to grow more agitated.

"You said I set up my son to work in an oil company, isn't that what you said? Get your words straight, Jack," Biden

A majority in the Democratic-led House has voted to impeach President Trump for abuse of power

The president is accused of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress related to his dealings with Ukraine

This makes the US president only the third in history to be impeached

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said it was "tragic" his "reckless actions" made this necessary. "He gave us no choice."

"This is a political hit job," said Guy Reschenthaler, a Republican from Pennsylvania.

The next stage is a Senate trial in January, where he will probably be acquitted - as were predecessors Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson

Get stuffed Trump. An impeached president, for now and for all time.

Now I know the Senate probably won't vote to remove him but we can dream.

Hopefully it won't and he'll carry on and win another term.

As he says it's all a set-up and lies and smears.

If he does beat impeachment, I can see Middle America turning out in droves to re-elect him.

Me too.

Hope he doesn't stand down voluntarily before his trial in late January as Nixon did.

You’re not a fan of proof then?

You’re happy to regurgitate stuff he says too without even thinking about what it actually means?

Hopefully it won't and he'll carry on and win another term.

He says it, so it must be true. I suppose you also think it’s true that the accused in the Salem witch trials received more due process than he is getting.

Do you really believe that people have made up a story about him trying to get a foreign power to investigate an opponent?

Was watching the vote just after midnight our time last night, 7pm EST, and one US commentator says there's only a 10% chance, in his opinion, of him being found guilty.
