April 19, 20178 yr Author 1 Jared Leto "Dallas Buyers Club" 2 Michael Fassbender "12 Years a Slave" 3 Bradley Cooper "American Hustle" Not seen: Barkhad Abdi, Jonah Hill (I have seen parts of this but I don't really remember him at all in it) Jared Leto is easily my winner here, he demands the attention in every scene he's in and his presence is greatly missed once his character departs from the film, he was about the only thing I thought was excellent about Dallas Buyers Club. Michael Fassbender was great in 12YAS and it's probably his most impressive role for me, really terrifying in parts and he is an important part of a great ensemble. Bradley Cooper was fun and I liked his character but he was overshadowed by both Adams and Lawrence for me and it was hardly his best role either but he was a decent nominee. I said in the movie awards thread too but I do think Jeremy Renner would've made a good nominee here too even though I'd never put him near the top, he helped make the ensemble in American Hustle be so great so he's worthy of a mention. I don't know if he counts as a supporting actor but he could easily slot in there, I'd have liked to see Steve Coogan get an acting nomination for Philomena too, him and Dench were a great duo.
