April 21, 20179 yr I think in time we'll see Gaga, Shawn and Lana all on the playlist so it's too early to worry. Remember, they only usually go for one insta-add per week unless the circumstances require different (eg. Shape Of You and Castle On The Hill), so it's not a surprise that they 'snubbed' so many artists when this week is SO busy for new music :D
April 21, 20179 yr 'Swalla' says hi. Lana will 100% get playlisted, surprised it wasn't this week but she will soon. Lol at the WORST one actually picking up steam, what a mess that track is :')
April 21, 20179 yr Great to see James TW and Becky Hill playlisted! Was hoping they'd add Shawn and/or Charlie though.
April 21, 20179 yr Yeh Lanas new single is the pre album single so I expect they will leave it til next week and build up its plays to coincide with release week! Great to see Paramores continued support along with Becky Hill & promotions for Kendrick & Disciples!
April 21, 20179 yr They're loving the Lorde track, surprised she hasn't moved up more since capital jumped on board!
April 21, 20179 yr Great to see Paramore on the C-list right away! Shame Bruno has been removed, was hoping it could manage a couple more weeks on the A-list.
April 22, 20179 yr Both Gaga and Lana are females over the age of 30. Radio One is officially done with them. Age has not a lot to do with it. Ellie Goulding is 30 yet there's no way they'd snub her.
April 25, 20179 yr Great to see Paramore on the C-list right away! Shame Bruno has been removed, was hoping it could manage a couple more weeks on the A-list. He has done fine, they in part helped it become a second top 20 hit from the album!
April 25, 20179 yr Age has not a lot to do with it. Ellie Goulding is 30 yet there's no way they'd snub her. It's to do with 'relevency' not age!
April 26, 20179 yr It's to do with 'relevency' not age! But the way they become irrelevant is when radio doesn't play them. If radio stopped playing Ellie Goulding she would become irrelevant. Any chance they will add Lady Gaga this week? Why is she regarded as irrelevant?
April 26, 20179 yr Gosh, they playlist so much junk. It is no wonder so many people are turned off by R1 these days. Edited April 26, 20179 yr by Tombo
April 26, 20179 yr He has done fine, they in part helped it become a second top 20 hit from the album! Age has EVERYTHING to do with it, especially if you're a Female Artist and in your mid 30's or older - Radio 1 deem you irrelevant. It's a total double standard, as they will play music from older males, but rarely females. It seems to be a problem not just confined to BBC radio but BBC tv too - it was all over the press a few years back. Very sad in the supposed age of equality. Pure prejudice when you get a Female Singer who is deemed too old, yet her music is written/produced by Artists who are still playlisted, shocking when her music sounds just like other songs that are playlisted from younger artists... that's a terrible shame.

It seems to be a problem not just confined to BBC radio but BBC tv too - it was all over the press a few years back. Very sad in the supposed age of equality. Beyoncé and Sia prove that's not the case. It's all about the genre of music an artist makes. Pure pop artists are far less likely to get continued R1 support following a flop single, though I still think Lady Gaga has a chance as 'The Cure' is doing nicely in the chart so far and sounds current.
April 26, 20179 yr I think age and gender does come into it, but relevancy is more where it's based. If a female artist over 30 even shows any signs of losing some relevancy, Radio 1 are very strict with them. Marina is a good example for me, she was a indie-pop artist who came second in the BBC Sound Of polls and her previous two albums were both Gold top 5s, her last album went to #1 and gave her her biggest hit, but Radio 1 just did not want to give her third era a chance, despite the singles being very Radio 1 friendly. I feel like if it was one of their indie male artists in the exact same position, they'd be offered more of a chance.

No they do not.... Sia just about, and she is the exception at 41 (give her a year or two and she won't be played) What about anyone over 40? Beyonce as a soon to be mother of 3 and nearing 40 will fall victim to being deemed irrelevant soon; especially as she's not had a solo UK #1 in 9 years, just wait. Radio 1 thinks that because their listeners are in a demographic of 15-29, any female older than that wouldn't really be relevant to their demographic - without realising they are in effect reinforcing terrible ageist stereotypes instead of trying to lead a positive change in attitudes to women over 40.

I doubt she's going to become irrelevant in the near future, unless she drastically changes into a more radio 2 friendly artist.
April 26, 20179 yr Beyoncé is one of the most relevant artists around right now, what a ludicrous statement :')
