Not seen Amour even though I do think it looks very good so here's how I'd rank the other four:

1 Jennifer Lawrence "Silver Linings Playbook"

2 Jessica Chastain "Zero Dark Thirty"

3 Naomi Watts "The Impossible"

4 Quvenzhané Wallis "Beasts of the Southern Wild"

Definitely my favourite Jennifer Lawrence performance but I do think it's a little unfair that she got all the hype over Bradley Cooper who was equally as good, I think he suffered from being in a much tougher category this year. I preferred Chastain in The Help of her two nominated performances but she has some great scenes in ZD30, it's a shame she's been snubbed a fair few times since this. I loved how emotional Watts' performance in The Impossible is but she does kind of go missing in the second half. Also, it's a shame she was the only nomination for the film, it was WAY better than one nomination suggests. I thought Wallis was good in her film, especially for someone so young but she didn't have many scenes that didn't just involve staring into the distance and I thought she was overshadowed by Dwight Henry in the scenes with her father.

I thought this was quite a weak year for this category from what I've seen. Helen Mirren definitely would have been in my top five so it's a big shame she was snubbed after hitting all the precursors but that's all I can really think of to round out my top five. I'd probably swap out Wallis for Dench in TBEMH which deserved some nominations in my opinion. I imagine Cotillard is very good in Rust & Bone too but it's another one that I've not seen...

Gah, a really poor year IMO, I really HATED J-law in Silver Linings and it was a really undeserving win (and nomination)

Jessica and Naoimi were the stand outs for me. Not sure who I'd wan to win, leaning a bit more towards Naoimi as I fele I've seen Jessica give better performances.

Not seen Amor so can't comment there. Helen should have gotten the Oscar nod.

Emily for GG was a bit WTF in terms of nomination. She wasn't bad in SFITY but the movie as a whole was "ehhH"
