BJSC 153: Noelle - Cold Killer

You're a cold killer looking for a heart to break
And I swear you were just another stupid mistake
And I won't come back, baby
I'm done lying awake
You're a cold killer, screaming at the top of my lungs
And I know that I'm not the only one
You aimed in on me like a loaded gun
So fire away

Well... This is apparently a former Popjustice winner :upsidedowndog: I'm pretty sure me unintentionally sending a Popjustice winner has happened before too, so this is probably not a new situation
It's a good song tho! Found it awhile back through youtube recomended and i've been pretty much hooked on it since. Hope you enjoy!

BJSC 154: Filip Baloš - Novi Plan Drugi San

Just let us end it

They say time heals everything

New plan, another dream

Will it ever end?

Perfomance Version

Taken from this years serbian national selection for ESC. One of my absolute favorites from the (very few) national finals i've took the time to watch live. Here is Filip Baloš with the song "Novi Plan Drugi San" ("New Plan, Another Dream"). Surprisingly enough this came on at a party I attended last weekend. Hopefully that is a good sign!

BJSC 155: So Chan Whee - Tears

Let's regard this as if nothing had happened
Let's regard each other as strangers
Aren't you able to release me?
You should forget me, I know it won't be easy for you
But my heart aches because I know you're waiting for me

Perfomance Version

aka the "high note song". Now, this song is very well known in the K-Pop sphere. Not only because it is a genuine hit and beloved, but also because many idols have covered the song in interviews, radio shows, variety shows and in performances. I first got to know this song when EXO's Chen
it on the variety show Knowing Brothers like 5 or so years ago. Hope y'all enjoy!

this clip of Kim Jong Kook (aka the OG gigachad of K-pop) covering this will forever live in my head rent free

BJSC 156: Lucy Camp - In The Night

Nights are better in the dead of

Like the way your bed is set up

Dancing silhouettes do duets

Let’s do it in no get up

Said something at ten and then ya

Got me at eleven when the

Moon was in a state of beauty

I just had to lift my head up

Every time we kiss I get a

Feeling I can’t skip ahead of

I just need the night and you but I don’t know if it’ll let us

Never know if it’ll let us

If it'll let us

I know that the day don’t like us

But the night would if it met us

So, we decided to recycle this time. Desbuanda - Come back etc. (;_;), sent Lucy Camp with "
" in the first contest (95) I competed in. post-bjsc 95 "The Heart Dies" became one of my most listened to songs from that era, and I consider it one of my absolute favourite discoveries from this contest. Desbuanda themselves went on to become one of my most pointed countries throughout the contests we competed in together - it was rare for me to not vote for one of their entries (at the time this also included Unovia, Quintessa and Persephonia). "In The Night" is one of the songs by her that I have loved for a while, hopefully this one also resonates with some people!
I actually don't really remember the Desbuanda entry from her but I might need to give it a relisten because I loved this one <3

BJSC 157: Niniola - Addicted

You know what i need

You know i need it

I'm so addicted

I mean

I can't live without it

By far one of our favorite contests this year <3 . Unfortunately, our chosen artist from Nigeria could not quite keep up - but the discoveries that I made this contest more then made up for it.

Foreign Language III: Lido Pimienta ft. Li Saumet – Nada

I'll be sincere with you and I'm not afraid

Of death, if it wants me

I'll wait for it here and smile

I carry the pain inside

I carry the pain, it's present

I'm a woman of moon blood

Of Earth, salt and dune

Without pity, without a doubt

I carry the pain inside

From one wonderful contest to another! We took part in the third edition of the Foreign Language Spin-off and sent Colombian artists Lido Pimienta and Li Saumet (known from Bomba Estéreo). The end result was 10th, which is more than good enough – thank you to everyone who voted!

BJSC 158: Fefe Dobson - Ghost

What's her name? What's she like?

I should warn her that you'll never do her right

All your games, all your lies

I need to tell her, maybe I can change her mind

You act like you just saw a ghost

I watched you getting way too close

Now I know why you're never there

Now I know, so it's my turn to disappear

You act like you just saw a ghost

I caught you

Now I know

Decided to go Canadian again and send another song called “Ghost”. Fefe Dobson is fairly known is her home-country. The song itself falls under the pop-rock umbrella which I feel like might have been quite popular during the time of its release – at the very least among the Disney girls. Just received some intel that this has been on drag race? wasn't aware of that but yay for that  .

Instrumentals II: Takeharu Ishimoto - The Price of Freedom

"The price of freedom is steep."

- Zack Fair

Pleased to say that this was a fun contest to host! Would have liked to do a little better with this song - but it does fit my theme of hosting and landing in the bottom 3

BJSC 159: Awich - Queendom

The suspect is on the run, I'm confused

It's not you, That's not true

You gave me your word

If you love me to death

Then live, you liar

So, we are staying in Japan. From Okinawa here is Awich with "Queendom". The song describes her life from leaving Okinawa to Atlanta in the the 2000's, where she met her husband and how he was incarcerated and later murdered. which lead to her being a single mother and moving back Japan where she later started her artist career.

BJSC 160: Annie - American Cars (Richard X Edit)

Going into the night

Like a flash in the dark

See the tears in our eyes

Fall of glittering stars

In American cars

I’ll let go of the wheel

And take hold of my heart

So before we crash

Kiss me under the stars

In American cars

Performance Version

It has been awhile since I have sent someone from Norway. Annie is a Norwegian singer, DJ and songwriter. The song "American Cars" itself is part of the album Dark Hearts.

Christmas V: Sandra Lyng - Julefantasi

The star shines, but does it really shine here?

With cold cheeks she stands among frozen trees

And hear another melody about a Christmas fantasy

Which is so beautiful, but it was never mine

They sang happy Christmas, peace on our earth

While I picked up the angel that was crushed yesterday

They sang happy Christmas, heaven on earth

While the tears fell silently

I want to feel the warmth, joy and hope

I Want to be in your Christmas fantasy

Had to actually translate this one myself haha. Not the happiest song I'll admit, but it's one the songs that hits just a little bit harder as one grow older.

BJSC 161: Ria Hall - Te Ahi Kai Pō

My peace is found

My heart is still

I feel your presence

As the fire burns away the darkness

"Te Ahi Kai Pō (The Fire Burning Away The Darkness)" is in reference to finding peace following the aftermath of war. The battle of Te Ranga in June of 1864 is the inspiration for this song, which was an unplanned slaughter of many Māori. This attack was in retaliation to the battle of Pukehinahina, where the British found themselves at a loss to The Māori. The song is from New Zealand, sung fully in the Māori language.

BJSC 164: Infinity Song - Slow Burn

It's a long walk on a rainy day
It's the sad song that you put on replay
It's the distance between New York and LA
It's sitting alone in the back of a cafe

Keep it going 'til the morning
Fan the flames and keep on burning
This is your lo-lo-love story
It's a slow, slow burn

Anyway, we are back again for this contest with "Slow Burn" by the sibling vocal group Infinity Song. This was a discovery I made earlier this year and has been on repeat with a few of their other songs from the album Metamorphosis. All very introspective, calming and fun, not often I listen to an whole album these days.
As for our future participation in the contest... idk. I've ended up taking a few more responsibilities at work. Additionally, I've been drowning in essays and deadlines the last few months and i'm currently facing several important exams starting in a few weeks. So, I haven't really had much time to sit down and actually listen to music and rank them accordingly, or really found a way to balance it all yet for any future participation.

(As for my non-voting in 161, I lowkey forgot about the deadline and went out with friends... opps )

BJSC 166: Damaris - Tusuykusun

Se oyen los cantos, me anuncia el viento

¡Kusikuy, sunqu! Que el camino ya está muy cerca

¡Kusikuy, sunqu! Que la noche ya está aclarando

Lotunia is back, back, back again – and this time we are returning to my birth country Perú. Why? Well, I spent almost a month in Peru a little while ago, and one of the songs I heard there was "Tusuykusun" ("Let's Dance"). A song that i consider a childhood memory that still holds up even today. Damaris, originally from Huancayo in the Andes region mixes the two languages Quechua and Spanish in her song while showcasing traditional Peruvian music beautifully. Hope you enjoy ^_^
