What a horrendous winning speech. So unnecessary and insulting for someone who has otherwise been so charming.
Not really loving the top 10 at all this year
I didn't mind his speech - he wasn't really slamming pop music or anything, he just said he preferred music with feeling over fireworks didn't he? I took that to mean that the song should be the main thing, not the staging.

And I liked the final performance too, I preferred it with both of them singing together.

That's people grasping at straws to convince themselves he didn't deserve the win as a person too, as well as the song. Yawn.

it just came across as elitist as if his song marked a massive change in eurovision and that it was the start of 'real music' in this era which a. suggests he thinks his song is able to do that b. ignores the fact that last year's winning song was very poignant!

I really don't think he meant to be elitist, the 'factory' comment was a bit misjudged but I think the sentiment is true - isn't it a good thing that music with heart is recognised? It was a statement of passion rather than snobbery surely.

'Nice' winner, but nothing special. I can see why it did well, but really quite a disappointing result. That speech at the end felt very unnecessary considering he's entered the campest and poppiest music competition in the world.

Either way , Lisbon 2018 I am coming 4 u.

ahahaha look many people here that love fast "food"music thats why you have "obese" ears :D

anyway, it's still SONG contest haha. I can relate to his speech tbh as I absolutely hated Moldova's performance, they were tryin to earn some hype on their 2010 performance when they finished in the bottom 5 (with an incredible song btw), now it ALL has been reversed.

Well done Salvador!

intention and execution are different things, what i'm judging is what he actually said, not a hypothetical of what he meant! it just seems weird to end on a note like that

this was a slap to those who always insists that Portugal should sing in English, no matter what language you sing but the emotion you CAN deliver.

Im amazed how Moldovia got so many points from Jury :o their song was stupid.

Moldova, Hungry, Norway and Australia do not deserve the top 10. Also 'Celebrating Diversity' with only 1 (and a half) artists being female inside the top 10...

I mean, I was not the biggest fan of this song I think that's fair to say but when I saw it in the semi I think at last I got it. It's just got that timeless quality and feels like a song you've known for years when you hear it even though it's a brand new song. And whilst I've got a bit of egg on my face over Portugal I have absolutely NONE over Italy's comparative flop! Sometimes "things just happen because they happen" is a piss poor reasoning for something (no shade to whoever said that, I'm just feeling pretty unashamedly smug about that right now, it'll wear off by morning!).

I just can't begrudge Portugal of all countries winning when this is the first time they've ever managed above 6th. Total Leicester City moment!

I hate the real music brigade because they are so condensing towards music they don't think is 'deserving' and music is such a deeply personal thing (look at the range of opinions in here tonight) and songs mean different things to different people. That's part of the joy of music. Finding that song you connect with or that lifts you up when you're down.

Those 'firework' songs he slagged off can mean so so so much to some people. Like there's countless stories of music literally saving the lives of people considering suicide. To go off on one against any other type of music is not only poor sportsmanship but it's the complete antithesis to what Eurovision is about.

No, he said (verbatim cause it doesn't quite make sense):

"I want to say that we live in a world of disposable music, fast food music without any content and I think this could be a victory for music with people that make music that actually means something.

Music is not fireworks, music is feeling. So, let's try and change this and bring music back, which is really what matters".

It's Eurovision. For me, his song won because it sounds like something from La La Land, Portugal have never won before and the public ran away with the emotion of giving it to a country out of pity and 'for the heart of it'. It was 100% not the best performance or song of the night.

His comments were a dig at popular music, not really Eurovision since he's never watched the show before to make that kind of statement. Still a really unecessary comment

That is what really grates with me. No music is disposable.
