May 14, 20178 yr The only good thing that came out of this contest was Manel rightfully flopping. This year of Eurovision can f*** back into its hellhole along with the results of the American election.
May 14, 20178 yr That's not what he said at all? He didn't say his preference wasn't for big staging and he preferred the focus be solely on the music and the meaning behind it.. what a reach  He said it's a 'victory for real music, music that actually means something..' total snob. Not a reach- "fireworks" obviously refers to big flashy performances and he talked about it being a victory for "music with meaning", so what I said just naturally follows as his performance was low key in terms of stage production so the entire focus was on him and the song. I'm not even saying what he said was fair or correct but it doesn't make him a twat or an undeserving winner. It's just down to taste when it comes to the song itself and I can't help but feel that if it were a winner whose performance was more well liked here they'd be given a free pass for an offhand comment after winning the Eurovision Song Contest.

And, of course, if it were a winner whose performance was more well liked they'd be given a free pass for a comment like that, especially if it were a woman or a hot man. The majority of us are fickle gays x
May 14, 20178 yr Well the fact that we won the televote shocked me most of all, never thought that would be possible. And it does shut down all the "neighbouring" arguments that have plagued eurovision. Also Australia receiving only 2 points, what?? Edited May 14, 20178 yr by Euphorique
May 14, 20178 yr Portuguese media seem to be ignoring the win, nothing about it on TV yet. that a lie, it was given as breaking news from the moment he won from most of the channels, and RTP had a live interview with him and a discussion about it with a panel. Edited May 14, 20178 yr by Odaisul
May 14, 20178 yr Says who, you? Who decides what's disposible or not? Who's to say someone hasn't connected to that song and wont be listening to it in 2020? Stop with the elitist bullshit. I still listen to cheesy pop music from the late 90s that a lot of people found disposible. Guess what, what's disposible to you may not be to everyone else. my dear I also like some cheesy pop music, but at least I admit that theres is music that is disposable, for me a disposable music is thos cheesy pop music I enjoy but then in the next months I forget about and move on to next ones, while real music STAYS in my list to listen when my mood ask for it. May 14, 20178 yr We have excellent hosting skills but RTP is pretty much bankrupt lol. Expect many green screen fails  RTP = Government = Tax payers Governemnt will inject more money for the event, dont worry, I just hope they dont make it at Coliseu dos Recreios, that place is awfull for this, they have the Atlantic Pavillion or the Campo Pequeno, and fingers crossed for a amazing stage better than previews editions. Or which I doubt, they could make it outside of the capital. Edited May 14, 20178 yr by Odaisul
May 14, 20178 yr OK I missed the show tonight due to being out so I've just caught up, with absolutely no spoilers known in advance *.* My brief thoughts: - Portugal isn't the kinda song I'd choose to listen to but I don't mind it as a winner, it's pleasant enough, even if I'd have much preferred Bulgaria! - Happy with 15th for Lucie! Pretty respectable. - Do It for Your Lover remains my favourite song from this year but even I didn't think the performance was good. Staging was messy, vocals were off (he's sang it better than he did tonight) and the l-l-l-lover adlibs fell flat live. I can't really complain at Manel's placing in the end.

Or which I doubt, they could make it outside of the capital. My best guess is they'll go with the MEO Arena in Lisbon. It's the perfect size and is (from what I can tell) conveniently located in the city so it feels like a no brainer.
May 14, 20178 yr It's really interesting looking into the more detailed results. For example all five jurors for both Israel and Belarus put us in their bottom six. Like did the song not resonate with any of them on a professional scale?
May 14, 20178 yr Loved this year musically, the show itself was a huge mess though. So happy with the top 5, would've replaced Sweden with Italy but they came 6th so can't really complain there.
May 14, 20178 yr Now I've woken up, full thoughts: * I guess I'll be in a Buzzjack minority regarding Portugal, as I still think it's a brilliant winner - absolutely my douze of the night - and didn't mind his speech at all, it clearly wasn't meant to be big-headed in any way as some have already said. I also still love 'Euphoria' with all my heart, so it's not like I'm a ballad snob! It reminds me of how I can't stand some of the biggest songs of recent years, like Happy or Rather Be, but I've long accepted that they simply appeal to and are enjoyed by a lot of people. Like it or not, juries and televoters were spellbound by it, and it's a shame it's not that well liked here but oh well. The reprise with his sister was a wonderful moment. * UK - If anyone's moaning that 15th is some sort of disaster for us then they're idiots, our best result since Blue and hopefully a positive step in our selection for future contests. Lucie did us proud last night, the juries rewarded us generously, we just didn't convince enough televoters to vote for us and that's something we need to look at for next time, more promo maybe? * LOL at Moldova being third but I really loved it!! Really fun party track and one of the biggest jams in the contest along with Norway. Sunstroke Project were beaming as they left the arena, dancing down the corridor to cheering fans. Seems crazy it got so many televotes but well deserved! * Got to feel sorry for Italy. They'd all but won in the odds for weeks and weeks but the momentum completely disappeared, missing top 5 was something of a shock. Can see any early favourites from now on being very sceptical of their chances, and the odds viewed with a lot of suspicion until the rehearsals actually start - a good thing really as there were only two surprise winners between the years 2008 and 2015, and now we've had two in a row! * Very happy for Blanche. Did "the Poli", starting strong in the odds, plummeting when the staging was revealed but still storming it based on the song. To think some were worried she wouldn't qualify - I was unsure on how she'd do but the audience reaction in the hall made me think she had a good place settled. * I'm mostly happy with the results all round - no hugely unfair flops like Barei last year - it's really only Armenia who deserved to do a lot better than the final gave her, easily one of my faves. Maybe not as efficiently run as Sweden last year, but still a great contest and looking forward to how the Portuguese manage next year!

I also still love 'Euphoria' with all my heart, so it's not like I'm a ballad snob! Of course it's a brilliant winner, genius piece of traditional music. Those who dislike it as a song live in their Eurovision bubble where only Swedish pop, novelty winners or stomping dance numbers can do well. I remember people disliking Jamala too because it wasn't "Eurovision" enough
May 14, 20178 yr Or, if you're like me, you disliked both songs because they're crap. I didn't mind the reprise with his sister singing because she had a much better voice and more stage presence, but as is he was just so awkward and the language is so, so ugly.
May 14, 20178 yr I was just about to turn over, nearly an hour into it, then the Portuguese song came on, and I thought it stood out! Lovely. Turned over during the next song. So, delighted this morning to see it win. And his sentiment about throw away pop, yep, I agree.
May 14, 20178 yr I'm still so annoyed with his speech. That's the kind of pretentious nonsense Ed Sheran would say but they don't realize they make "disposable fast food music" too. They're not classical geniuses and are no Mozart. They really need a wake up call if they think they are "better" than other pop music. They ARE pop acts.

I am like you. - I also agree with an earlier comment that mentions doing promo. I'm sure I remember Jade Ewen being a huge deal because she promoted all over Europe with ALW. Promo is the key?
