May 13, 20178 yr Those presenters were PAINFUL to watch. Stilted, boring and struggled with English. Their jokes were like those of people learning English, saying anything, like Gandalf, to practise. Wow.
May 13, 20178 yr Let's hope that Sweden pull something amazing out of the bag next year so they can host in 2019. I'm obsessed with them, they always deliver. Graham Norton made me laugh at the beginning where he sarcastically told us that the theme is 'celebrate diversity' and the hosts are... 3 white bottoms men
May 13, 20178 yr do we think he is autistic???? i did find his lack of emotion or adrenaline throughout the results quite perplexing but it would explain that He hasn't openly said it and I'm no expert but people who know more about autism than I do say there is evidence for it. I did think initally it was a tourettes/tic type thing but that's been poo-poo'd
May 13, 20178 yr ALSO again, mess at the Polish in the UK being out in force YET AGAIN by giving Poland 10 points.
May 13, 20178 yr How do you know that, are the split results out yet? Because they were top 10 up until public vote?
May 13, 20178 yr I'll be bowled over if he's not at least on the spectrum, you can kind of tell and I think that does make sense Lew, the song did just feel eh and cold to me and that might be why. Oh I have SO many things to say about the juries' complete lack of taste this year. Not Portugal, because the masses got with that too, but the masses were (as they were last year and in 2015) so much more accurate in finding good and fun tracks for the contest and backing them while the juries seem to be liking tracks that were more likely to have been conceived in a record producer's room to be "on trend". Sometimes I think the juries forget they're watching a show for fun and get their inner Guardian music critic out above all else. Arguably this might be what they're for but when it makes boring tracks like Australia that nearly no one actually liked enough to vote for come top 10, it feels rather antithetical to the contest's aims. Yeah I feel the same! I said dodgy to my friends earlier but that's the wrong word, it's just a bit... I'll say odd. I did get Portugal sweeping the juries, that was expected, and then the competently performed ballads like OG3NE and Lucie doing well, but I do feel like Norway in particular doing well was them looking at the wider music industry and thinking "ooh this could be a spotify hit, clever". It also feels a bit of a farce that Australia can be top 10 being practically bottom of the televote, but I suppose stuff like this happens every year and I can't rubbish the juries so much given that if it was just televote OG3NE and Lucie for example would be way lower
May 13, 20178 yr Because they were top 10 up until public vote? Yeah but that was just juries, the old system used to convert both the juries and televotes into the top 10 songs so it's impossible to know how Lucie would have done then until they release the stats and stuff
May 13, 20178 yr No way RTP has the money to host next year  If Ukraine can host it in the middle of a civil war then you'll do fine! WE BELIEVE IN U(R HOSTING) PORTUGAL!
May 13, 20178 yr If Ukraine can host it in the middle of a civil war then you'll do fine! WE BELIEVE IN U(R HOSTING) PORTUGAL! We have excellent hosting skills but RTP is pretty much bankrupt lol. Expect many green screen fails  Edited May 13, 20178 yr by Euphorique
May 13, 20178 yr Mistranslation or not I agree, it came across at least, in the only bit he had to make an impression with his personality, as twatty. Even the absolute worst like Spain is still music, the great thing about Eurovision is that it's so many different types of songs, from rap yodelling to 90s infused power ballads to jazzy love ballads. I hope this doesn't make an influx of boredom personified like that, but then Jamala didn't inspire a lot of political emotional ethnic songs so it's jumping the gun a bit to assume that  He never mentioned he was talking about Eurovision specifically though. Could well be chart music and just the state of the industry these days. Some throwaway songs (you know which ones i am talking about - anything where 'hit that ass'/'touch my body baby ooh'/'twerk it like it's hot' are the most popular lines in the song) do make a difference and make people happy, there's no doubt about it. But mostly because they get shoved to the general population via radios and famous people and shows and stuff with one single reason - make as much money as possible by appealing to the widest range of people. While it's another perfectly valid business model that works there's rarely any emotion and feeling involved in the creation. I thought his speech was mostly about that aspect. Also he never said his type of song is the ONLY type of music that is real or whatever. People here like to exaggerate a lot :')
May 13, 20178 yr He never mentioned he was talking about Eurovision specifically though. He had just won Eurovision, of course that's what he meant!
May 13, 20178 yr Ooh also my biggest surprise was Armenia so low :( I suppose it got forgotten about so early on. I thoguht it hit the sweet spot as far as ethnic songs are concerned and would have done way better, but Hungary seemed to have filled that slot.
May 13, 20178 yr I think he meant music in general since he's never watched Eurovision (he'd be in for a shock if he watched the campy 00's Eurovision ) I just thought it was unecessary and divisive.
May 13, 20178 yr He had just won Eurovision, of course that's what he meant! Why do you not think it wasn't just used as a platform to send his message to the world outside of the contest and without specifically targeting it? You were the one posting his quote after all. Let's stick to the facts.
May 13, 20178 yr Now, WHERE THE FUCK IS MY SPREADSHEET WITH ALL THE VOTING DATA IN IT EBU, I'M NOT SLEEPING UNTIL I HAVE COMPLETED MY ANALYSIS!
May 13, 20178 yr Ooh also my biggest surprise was Armenia so low :( I suppose it got forgotten about so early on. I thoguht it hit the sweet spot as far as ethnic songs are concerned and would have done way better, but Hungary seemed to have filled that slot. Ikr. That staging was PERFECTION, the dancers were FIERCE and most importantly the song was on the same level as Lovewave!
May 13, 20178 yr Author I think I speak for myself, Lex and Ryan when I say THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to the thread tonight, we've DOUBLED last year's post count total which is just amazing! It's been a great evening as ever and another high quality competition. It's been a fantastic season, make sure to pop into the Eurovision forum over the summer, as we prepare for 2018 in Portugal! :cheer:
