Meslissa being there is SO odd, not because she didn't deserve it, but caus the movie itself isn't really Oscar bait  she was outstanding in it though.

Really wished it went to Jessica though, but I can't aruge with Octavia winning, she nailed the role.

Haven't seen The Artist but here's how I'd rank the rest:

1 Jessica Chastain

2 Janet McTeer

3 Octavia Spencer

4 Melissa McCarthy

She's super lovely and I know her narrative in the film is a huge crowd-pleaser but Octavia's performance really was a little too light to be the overall winner for me even though I'm glad she has the Oscar for the aforementioned reasons. I think it would've been a good opportunity to award Chastain with an Oscar already, plus her performance completely broke my heart at times and I loved how bubbly she was. Janet McTeer was a huge scene-stealer in Albert Nobbs and the film was so much more engaging when she was on-screen so she wouldn't be far behind for me either. I love Melissa McCarthy too and this is definitely one of her best roles but like Octavia, it is just a little light to be much higher in my rankings, so glad she made it for a comedic performance as it doesn't happen so often nowadays :(

Shailene Woodley would've easily made my top five (top three probably!), it's a shame her hype died out after the Globe nomination because she was my favourite thing about The Descendants tbh and her character was very believable thanks to her portrayal. I also think Rachel McAdams would've been a decent nominee for Midnight in Paris, it's a shame she had to wait until Spotlight to get her first nomination! Another one was never in the running really but I was really impressed by the emotion that Sandra Bullock brought to her role in Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close despite minimal screen-time, this year was really stacked actually!

Lol at the BAFTAs nominating Judi Dench for that film win her role is so small and irrelevant basically, they'll do anything to reward British talent
