I forgot to do my review. It is too late tonight. I'll do it tomorrow. I want another listen to the songs at the end of the album anyway. -_-

I've listened to the album several times now so I feel confident enough to make a proper review.

"Rudebox" is arguably the most consistant work Robbie Williams has delivered since "Sing When You're Winning" hit the shops in 2000. Aiming to a new dance/electropop sound influenced by the 80's, this new album reflects a drastic change in Robbie's music career and an upturn in my opinion.

Kicking off with the debut single "Rudebox", which is rather longer than the single version we're used to, the album combines the styles that made the latest Madonna release a success with a strong influence from the 80's electropop from Pet Shop Boys amongst others.

In opposition to the review that says the album has no direction, I consider it leads to something great, the consistency of the album is based in amazing lyrics squeezed into funky, catchy melodies and even some rap from Robbie.

On a pretty premature listening, highlights on the album (apart from the singles "Rudebox" and "Lovelight") are "Viva Life On Mars", "She's Madonna", "Never Touch That Switch", "Kiss Me"; "The 80's" & "The 90's and "Summertime". There are no fillers on the album, just songs that outstand others, but all of them make a great LP, in my opinion, the best Robbie release in some time.

Thanks Luciano. Glad you like it. :yahoo:

Yeah, I'm enjoying it at the moment ^_^ Can't wait for your review

I've given it 5 listens now, I suppose I should do a review at some point  I'll give it another listen later ^_^

Jupiter's Rude Review- Part 1. ( I'm going to post this bit by bit because of my dodgy Internet connection. Ain't spending 3 hours typing only for it to disappear into the ether -_- )

Song 1- Rudebox

I ain't too keen on this. I've never been too keen on this. I tried to convince myself I really liked it. But I don't. I stood at Hampden Park bopping away trying to convince myself I liked it. But I didn't. The rapping sounds too monotone and lazy, the lyrics are terrible and the chorus hook isn't catchy enough to make me forget the rest of it.

However, I have made progress. I have moved from 'Eughhhhhh!!!!! What in God's name is this pot of p***?' to ' Hmmm. I guess it's OK' And I will say, it sounds really quite good in the car. Up loud.

Still cannot fathom why it was ever chosen as first single. If it was Robbie who picked it, he's an idiot. If it was a marketing guru, that particular clown should be fired. <_< I give it 5/10. -_-

Song 2- Viva Life on Mars

This one is very instant and catchy. Loved it from first listen. Ain't got a scooby what it's about but our man seems to be enjoying himself  . Woah, Woah.

Would sound really good on the Radio. I give it 9/10.

Song 3- Lovelight

Now this is pure class. Always loved it. Great song, great video. Deserves to be a major hit. ( So that's the kiss of death). Very funky, very sexy. Me likey likey a lot. I give it 9/10.

Next set to follow. ^_^

Wow @ Rudebox's 5 :o

But i agree, -_- I listened to it so many times to just try and love it but if anyone else released it I honestly would rip the p*** out of the song itself. It's definatly one of the worst on the album :(

Jupiter's Rude Review- Part 2

Song 4- Bongo Bong

I need to confess something to you all. For the past few months I have tried to convince you all that I adored Bongo Bong. And I think I had most of you fooled. I was lying. Big time. When I first heard the Manu Chao version with Mama and her Mambos and the Monkey and his Bongos I thought music had finally died. The biggest pile of $h!t I'd heard since Crazy Frog.

Anyway, I listened to Robbie's version with a sense of dread. But you know what? I actually quite liked it. It's fun. And that's all it was ever intended to be. It makes me feel quite happy. I have deducted a point because Lily Allen is on it and she annoys me so much. ( Oh and I definitely don't want it to be a single). I give it 6/10

Song 5- She's Madonna

I like this song. I very nearly love this song. It is very close to being the perfect pop tune. Close but not quite there. The chorus is fantastic. But there is just something missing. Parts of it annoy me. Particularly where he sings 'Me-ee-ee-ee-ee'.

Having said that, I'm a hyper-critical type of person. At the end of the day it's a great track. The production is fab. I give it 9/10. ( I've upped this to 9/10 after a couple more listens. Would be the best 'next single' I think)

Song 6- Keep On

This one took me the most listens to 'get into'. Another fun song but it really goes in all directions. It's an assault on the senses. Again absolutely no idea what it's about.

The first couple of times I played it I had to give up about half way through. I felt my eyes crossing and brain short-circuiting.

But yesterday I was playing it in the car. And suddenly there I was. Bopping away at the traffic lights. And it just fell into place. I really like it now ( except obviously for Ms Allen :arrr: ). I'm giving it 8/10.

I hope people won't think you're a right nutter, bopping away in your car

Part 3- ( my last chunk for tonight. This album is so long. )

Song 7- Good Doctor

This is just so funny. I burst out laughing every time I listen to it. The chorus is great and the rapping doesn't bother me at all. It's just such a witty song. There is not another artist out there who would consider recording a track like this. I don't feel Prop-ahhhhh... I give it 9/10.

Song 8- The Actor

I absolutely adore this song. Loved it from first listen. Still love it. This is my kind of music. Electro-pop at it's finest. Can't say anything else really. Joaquin, Joaquin, Joaquin, Joaquin. I give it 10/10.

Song 9- Never Touch That Switch

Wasn't keen on this at first but it has grown on me. I like his voice on this track. Quite menacing. There's a schism in the time mechanism. Indeed there is. I give it 7/10.

Song 10- Louise

I adored the Human League version of this song and Robbie has done a nice cover. But I think I was expecting something more daring. It's too true to the original. It doesn't really add anything and by the end it sounds a bit laboured. I like it but I'm not inspired by it. I give it 7/10.

As you can see, I'm not being overly generous with my scores. But I never am overly generous. And most of the stuff in the Chart today would be lucky to get a 2/10 from me.

I'll complete the rest of my review tomorrow night.

Great reviews Jup :D

I agree Rob's version sounds very like the original but I much perfer it simply because I think the original has'nt dated well. Rob's voice suits the song perfectly for me and the music is much better IMO. The talking at the end is also better

I love your review Jups! :cheer:

And for Bongo Bong, I don't know... I think I didn't believe in this 100%... Just you was talking too much about it... That was too much of love to be truth :)

i love the whole album...keep on and never touch that switch are becoming a little addictive but i am not pleased with summertime i love the original version so much more

still an amazing album

Yes. I have new favourites every day. I'll probably be amending my scores before I finish my review!
Don't think it was ever a B-Side. It was written and used at the end of the film Mike Bassett England Manager. It was on the Film Soundtrack CD I believe. ^_^

Jup's Review- Part 4

Song 11- We're the Pet Shop Boys

What a bizaare choice for a cover version. And it gets even stranger when Robbie's singing 'We're The Pet Shop Boys' with Neil Tennant on backing vocals. But it works. God knows how. I like this one. Very electro. Great production again. Much better than the original. I give it 8/10.

Song 12- Burslem Normals

I've tried . I really have. But it does nothing for me. It starts slowly, slows down, then stops. It's like Thom Yorke in a fit of depression. I'm scared to play it in the car in case I become suicidal and drive into a tree. This is my 'skipper' I'm afraid. I give it 4/10. Yawnnnnnn.

Song 13- Kiss Me

This is so much better than the original ( and I did like the original). But this is so bouncy, upbeat and alive. It makes me want to go :yahoo: and dance about the living room. I give it 9/10.

Song 14- The 80s

Where do I start? This song is fab. Love it, love it, love it. The lyrics are pure brilliance. And I love the chorus part as well. I can relate to so much of it ( except the dirty bits obviously :P ). I find myself sitting at my desk at work singing this one. A good sign surely. I give it 10/10.
