This was a really, really strong year. All four that I've seen could've been winners in any other year.

1 Frank Langella

2 Mickey Rourke

3 Brad Pitt

4 Sean Penn

I wasn't expecting to enjoy Frost/Nixon so much but I did find it excellent and that was largely down to Langella's performance, he's exactly how I imagine Nixon to be in real life. Rourke knocked it out of the park in the Wrestler too and it's a shame he didn't win because I doubt he'll ever get a role this good again. I thought Pitt was brilliant to capture how people act differently in different stages of their lives and it is one of the most interesting roles that I've ever seen on-screen so certainly a deserving nominee. I was impressed with Penn too but he's had better roles imo and I also found the character slightly unlikable which dampened my view of the performance, I guess? I'm not sure he deserved to win a second Oscar so soon after his first either.

I'd have probably put Michael Sheen in Frost/Nixon as my fifth nominee, I loved the film and he worked really well with Langella.

I've only ever seen Milk from that list, and while I prefer James Franco's role, I'm glad Sean got a win since both were amazing.
