OP updated. Seems to be quite a lot of new entries this week thanks to ACR. I imagine these would otherwise not be top 100 hits:

91 NE 01 Not3s ~ Aladdin

92 NE 01 Future ~ Pie (feat. Chris Brown)

93 NE 01 Tyler, The Creator ~ Who Dat Boy

96 NE 01 Travis Scott ~ goosebumps (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

99 NE 01 Bugzy Malone ~ Bruce Wayne

100 NE 01 KSI ~ Creature

Early indications suggest then that we'll see a lot more new UK grime and US hip-hop songs in the top 100 going forwards.

Presumably the idea of overhauling the charts was partly to give a leg up to the sort of acts that appear at the start of every year on the tastemaker lists, many of which are indie-orientated. But I don't see the new chart rules helping those types of artists significantly because they're never streamed in great numbers and don't do amazingly well on sales either.

For the charts to have a real genuine shakeup that will benefit new artists and record labels then radio and Spotify playlists both need a major overhaul. The simple fact is that, grime artists and the odd crossover act like Rag 'n' Bone man aside, new UK artists just aren't being streamed or sold enough in the numbers needed to make the charts - rule change or not.

At least grime and hip-hop are getting the chart recognition they deserve now (well they already were, just more of it now), they're hugely popular on streaming unsurprisingly given urban fans are more likely to stream than buy music.

Looking at this Top 100 I'm thrilled!

Maybe people now will acknowledge how popular these songs actually are instead of writing then off due to chart positions. For example, a #60 peak is the icing on the cake for an already popular song not a flop.

jay-z's new album is #32 on streaming album chart.

and not in top100 album- SEA is really small in album I guess.

What on earth is SEA? That's the second thread I've seen you mention it in, without any explanation or anything.

Stream Equivalent Albums, it's basically the term used by Billboard for their own album chart to explain streaming sales. They also have Track Equivalent Albums, or TEA, as they combine cherry picked downloads in their album chart.

The fact Jay-Z's album is only on Tidal probably doesn't help. Kanye's last album charted on streams alone for a while (although it wasn't actually allowed to chart until quite a few weeks into its life as the OCC apparently originally didn't allow streaming-only albums), so I'm sure Jay-Z could have got a top 100 debut on streams alone if it was available on Spotify.

So this rule is called "Let's push Mr. Brightside into top 40"

(kidding)

There might be more urban chart hits from now on, but as they are streaming heavy, they will also drop pretty fast (look at Mask Off this week)

They should add airplay to the chart as well as Youtube streaming, and also add a recurring song rule which eliminates all old songs from the bottom of the chart, and only keep the ones that make it into the top 20...

Are you kidding, please don't give OCC any more ideas.
