Oh my gosh, the slayage is coming!

Duke Dumont up to #22.

Her husband spends a fortune

BBC radio/British radio remains ageist, sexist and anti-foreign language tracks. Despacito was never A-listed in BBC Radio 1 for instance, even though it is probably within the top 3 of the biggest hits this decade.

Chantaje is exactly everything they do not like. Doubt it would have ever been more than a lower top 40 iTunes hit in the UK.

How is it 'anti-foreign language' exactly? Despacito was on BBC Radio 1's playlist for several weeks and a lot of tracks don't make the A List! Just because it was #1 doesn't mean they have to put it on high rotation. The last foreign language song to have such an impact was Gangnam Style and I'm pretty sure Radio 1 had that on their playlist too! Radio 2 also A-Listed Despacito at the same time.

One could argue the ageist approach yes, but this is a station targeted at people under the age of 35 and so they will put a preference on 'younger acts'... However, I don't even know where to begin with your 'sexist' comment...

I do not think that adding 2 foreign language songs in 5 years in low rotation changes my statement at all. Also you can compare the ratio of male/female hits and you cannot deny that there are currently more male figures in the charts than females. I absolutely reiterate everything that I said in my previous comment.

That's not just to do with the BBC though

Songs of a foreign language do not often get exposure in this country regardless either because they're not heard about, not popular or they are not pushed by the relevant record labels.

I agree completely. Radio is though another one of the reasons why there are not foreign language tracks more frequently becoming a hit in the UK unfortunately. -_-

That and 99% of people in the UK wont understand the words so cant connect with them

Are we really going to try and make non English songs not doing well in the UK or pushed by radio as sort of bad thing now, it is just life.

I've not been following iTunes movements that carefully this week, but I see the following currently within the Top 40 which I would love to see smash soon;

18. The Script – Rain

19. ALMA – Chasing Highs

21. Duke Dumont & Gorgon City feat. NAATIONS – Real Life

22. Dua Lipa – New Rules

23. Demi Lovato – Sorry Not Sorry

32. Arcade Fire – Everything Now

33. Kesha – Praying

36. Coldplay feat. Big Sean – Miracles (Someone Special)

40. Bruno Mars vs. David Guetta – Versace On The Floor

Hope some promo, discounts and Spotify support will help to propel these all up to higher positions.

I'm very surprised that Bruno Mars record is taking so long to take off. It sounds like a smash to me. Hopefully it still will be.
Instruction by Jax Jones is right outside the top 50 and I hope it'll be huge too. The music video should be released this week and maybe it'll help
Dua with another big update.. Top 20 for sure this week. With a discount next week or the next it's for sure top 10 ..even more.

It's doing quite well on Spotify now (top 30) so hopefully it gets Hot Songs and 59p on Friday to maximise its peak chart position, alongside the music video.

I still have no reason to doubt it'll be a big top 10 hit.

Eager for 'Instruction' to vault back up. Hoping the video does it.
