August 8, 20177 yr Thought she didn't run a bad race actually - the pace could have been slightly faster to limit the strengths of fast finishers like Semenya and Simpson, but Muir couldn't do that all herself without tiring herself out. Probably would have nabbed a medal had she moved out further at the top of the home straight, being boxed in between Semenya and Hassan cost her.
August 8, 20177 yr Author This is ridiculous in regards to Issac Makwala not being allowed to run and then refused entry to the stadium. All because of norovirus. Let him run. He looked completely well in an interview.
August 8, 20177 yr Author Flipping heck and now 100m world champion Tori Bowie has pulled out of the 200m.
August 8, 20177 yr Improbably, it might be opening up for at least a final spot for Dina Asher-Smith. She broke her foot early in the season and barely made the team, but looked brilliant in running an SB in the heats tonight. Having come 5th in the last Worlds and at the Olympics, she's definitely a medal contender if she continues to improve through the rounds. And still only 21!
August 8, 20177 yr Author Dina Asher-Smith looked very comfortable in her heat. I hope she makes the final. Kyle Langford run an absolute stormer in the 800m final just missing out on bronze I do think UK Athletics put a lot of pressure on their athletes e.g. Muir, Johnson-Thompson. 1 medal isn't great to be honest.
August 9, 20177 yr It's not. The target of 6-8 was clearly too high. Mo Farah is the only one who you could consider a *likely* medallist, along with possibly one or two of the relays. Otherwise we have had a lot of predicted top 8 finishers - Muir, KJT, Bleasdale, Hitchon, Pozzi etc - where probability suggests that one or two could medal. It's unfortunate from a medal perspective that our best overperformers have been the likes of Prescod and Langford, who have exceeded expectations by making the final at all, rather than some those I mentioned above stepping up to medal.
August 9, 20177 yr Author Michael Johnson, Paula Radcliffe has been by far the best pundits on BBC's World Championship Athletics coverage. Denise Lewis has been disappointing. As for commentators: Backley- solid as ever Cram- poor Foster- Good as always Cotter- been an all round good commentator As for that Toni bloke, he has been vey poor.
August 9, 20177 yr Toni Minichiello is Jess Ennis-Hill's former coach. I think he's been quite good for providing some technical insight on events. I still like Cram although he's yet to have a moment of really memorable commentating during these championships. Andrew Cotter has been excellent, Johnson is still the best pundit on TV for any sport.
August 9, 20177 yr Another 4th from Langford :( A lot better than we were expecting though. Agree that this Makwala incident is stupid - it's just going to lead to athletes lying about not being sick and surely that's the opposite of what we want
August 9, 20177 yr Author Miller-Uibo what happened to her in the women's 400m final going well and then pulling up with an injury possibly that's cruel how she lost it. Probably been a bit harsh on Toni and Cram, both been all right tonight. Makwala through to the 200m final comfortably. I hope he wins a medal.
August 10, 20177 yr Definitely a turn-up for the books in the 400m! Naser is definitely one to look out for in the future.
August 10, 20177 yr Men's 200 metres final tonight could be fascinating. Michael Johnson reckons there's five or six who could win it. I don't think he'll take the gold, but I do fancy Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake to nab a medal.
August 10, 20177 yr Author A mad finish in the first heat of the men's 1500m. With the Olympic champion last about 10 within in a photo finish.
August 10, 20177 yr If you got a medal for being 4th I bet Britain would be at the top of the table :(
August 11, 20177 yr Author Hoping that Mo can the triple double tonight. Come on Mo. Hoping that we get some success in the relays with a couple of medals in the 4x100m and 4x400m hopefully.
August 11, 20177 yr Author We need that attitude where 4th isn't good enough. But for Asher-Smith, yes she'll be disappointed but delighted considering the injury she had.
