Does anybody here remember Capital Radio from the start in September 1973 when it broadcast on 194?

 

My two favourite DJ's were Kenny Everett on Saturday lunchtimes and Roger Scott who was on 3-6 weekdays.

 

I loved them both. Roger Scott did something called "The 3 0'clock thrill" where he played old charts and the Hitline at five o'clock whereby you could ring in your favourite song at that time and they compiled a chart. (Don't know how scientific it was :lol: ) The 1973 equivalent of the Sunday afternoon download chart they do now I suppose. ^_^ I used to rush home from school especially to listen to that.

 

Nicky Horne was on at 9 pm with "Your Mother wouldn't Like It". He played a lot of Queen I remember.

 

Graham Dene had the breakfast slot.

 

I have such happy memories of Capital from those days. Radio 1 was considered so old fashioned. It was all about Commercial Radio.

 

Both Kenny Everett and Roger Scott are such a loss to radio. -_-

And... Chris Rainbow did the summer jingles for Kenny Everett. The same jingles I have saved on my Ipod.

 

Every time I hear them, I'm 13 again. ^_^

sadly we didnt get Capital radio in Lincolnshire/Gloucestershire in those days, but Chris Rainbow made my personal charts with Solid State Brain in 1974 - either Radio 1 (Johnnie Walker) or Luxembourg must have played it. Good track.

I used to listen to Capital a lot in the early days, particularly Roger Scott and Nicky Horne. The Nicky Horne show had a weekly albums chart, also based on phone votes. The chart was actually the only time he played Queen - he hated them.

 

While they had a playlist DJs were also allowed to play some of their own choices. That meant I was introduced - via Roger Scott - to the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel.

Kenny Everett used to play a lot of Chris Rainbow. Dear Brian was one of my favourite tracks. Dedicated to Brian Wilson of course. It's the end of that song that was adapted to become a Capital Radio sumner jingle. I've got all this stuff on cassettes in our loft.

because I'm such a Capital Radio geek - I found all these memories on Youtube :wub:
