the Paloma situation just shows how sexist R1 is... she came back with album 3 and the lead single Can't Rely on You was the most R1-friendly song, done with Pharrell Williams, but was totally ignored...

2 months later, Ed Sheeran releases Sing, which is almost a clone of Can't Rely, again with Pharrell and very very similar in beats and style, and of course Sing gets A-listed for 75 weeks or something :D

Sorry but other than the obvious Pharrell link, I don't find much similar between "Sing" and "Can't Rely On You"...

Paloma must've been playlisted with her Sigma collab?

Yeah she was, I was gonna mention that. It seems a shame she can't get playlisted unless she's on a collab, she's so up their street.

I don't see Paloma as a Radio 1 artist at all now actually. I would've thought most of her fans are over 30. She's doing nothing on Spotify. She's Radio 2.
Exactly. It's not sexism, she just doesn't appeal to the young audience radio one are targeting.

I don't see how she's really any different to James Bay, George Ezra, Sam Smith or even Ed Sheeran really? It's just singer songwriter. Their snub of her is...odd.

I agree with your point but I think those are bad comparisons to illustrate it - I'd say a lot more young people are into Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran and even George Ezra than they are into Paloma. I think a better comparison would be P!nk, I'd say she has a similar demographic of fans to Paloma, and yet R1 still support her, that's what makes their snub of Paloma a little odd.

I'd disagree. Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran are huge for mum-buys. And I'd say Paloma attracts a wide range of ages too, but I can't see her demographic being any different from say, Jessie Ware or even Adele (To a smaller scale obviously) for example.

Obviously Paloma can't target the younger audience as easily without Radio 1 anymore, but I've been to festivals and seen her where the audience is predominantly 20-somethings.

To me like most of the artists listed above, Paloma is the kind of artist that would automatically get Radio 1 and 2 support. THe fact she's doing well on Capital further proves to me that her being snubbed on Radio 1 is odd.

Pink's still making music that resonates with younger people as well. I don't think Paloma is.

Capital aren't constantly being told that they need to try harder to target under 30s and support new artists.

Yeah they playlist Jessie Ware but not Paloma Faith?

She's infinitely cooler than Paloma Faith

New Anne-Marie's going to bomb isn't it? Such a shame it's not a better song, hope it's not going to be too damaging for her career.
but sure paloma is cooler than Sam Smith, well, anyone is cooler than Sam Smith :D and I mean 5 out of his last 6 singles are ballads, so hardly a genre that interests kids, he's more boring than Michael Bolton :)

Age.

Age.

P!nk is older

Although age probably does play a part. It wouldn't surprise me either if it was to do with the retro sound of her music. I know JCRY was produced by Pharrell etc, but the sounds are a bit of a throwback to an earlier era which possibly dates Paloma more so than P!nk etc
