Am I right in saying Ed Sheeran's 'Shape Of You' and 'Castle On The Hill' were the only previous songs to hit 1 million streams in a day?

 

Knew the Xmas Day numbers would be super high but they're even higher than I thought! Brill to see The Pogues comfortably over 1m as well as Band Aid and Brenda Lee!

I know this is UK but I want to mention Band Aid reaching No.9 in US spotify, I never realised they liked this song so much The Pogues at No.62 think in a few years this song will finally get the credit it deserves in America, should have been a huge hit over there a long time ago, Chris Rea at No.64 think it's probably playlist related but it bodes well for future years.

 

Astonishing figures will be interesting to see next year if this trend continues or if there becomes a year or so where people get a little tired of the same songs.

 

Interesting how Earth Kitt trumped Kylie on the final day, last year they were neck and neck all December, this year Kylie was way ahead until Christmas Day.

Spotify have been preparing for an IPO (initial public offering) on the Dow Jones stock exchange for some time now, they've just got a few regulatory hurdles to jump through before they can achieve that, as well as a few contractual things (such as re-negotiating their rates with the Big 3 record companies) before they can float it. They're really banking on the IPO though - as you say Spotify have failed to turn a profit in any year since it first started, and they're in a net liability position, relying on the occasional cash injection from angel investors to keep going. Spotify's a great service, but so far not one that they can make money out of.

Well that's depressing.

So realistically at this stage, Ed could release a brand new song every couple of months and be almost guaranteed a #1? Castle On The Hill, How Would You Feel, & Galway Girl would have all each been #1s too if not for Shape Of You. I know he was incredibly overplayed but he has had an astounding year and I doubt his fame or popularity will decline anytime soon.

Spotify have been preparing for an IPO (initial public offering) on the Dow Jones stock exchange for some time now, they've just got a few regulatory hurdles to jump through before they can achieve that, as well as a few contractual things (such as re-negotiating their rates with the Big 3 record companies) before they can float it. They're really banking on the IPO though - as you say Spotify have failed to turn a profit in any year since it first started, and they're in a net liability position, relying on the occasional cash injection from angel investors to keep going. Spotify's a great service, but so far not one that they can make money out of.

I could see Google being interested and linking it with Youtube, that could work.
