It's amazingly dancey, poppy and uplifting; and Sundfør sings it with such conviction, if only Röyksopp had some sort of relevance left it would be their own 'Get Lucky' moment. Okay it's not quite that amazing but it's too good to be this underrated. So glad it got an extended version too because that outro is so much better in its minute long form. So this one gets caught up between the years and nearly matches its position from last year, which is good going. Unfortunately Röyksopp still haven't followed this song up with anything so this remains their only chart showing of the year. Both of them are ones to watch for 2018 though. It's just a fun song about hitting up girls and keeping it low key, quite standard for this genre but the hook really sells it, good production on it too. Now I've been following them for a few years now and particularly liked 'Paradigm' and 'Paths'. 'Cola' has even more of a deep house feel to it than previous singles of theirs though and it took me a few listens to really get it, but it's brilliant. The vocal tone really suits the lyrics, which are quite unusual for a dance hit being about a girl getting herself high in the club (I prefer to not interpret it as a song about date rape, I don't think that is the intention) and the production builds really well, even for the very subtle changes. She sounds a lot more comfortable doing this than her Sia imitation and so I'm glad it was this song that became her big hit. She definitely made the right decision to get off the sinking ship that was Fifth Harmony. Also I'm not a fan of Young Thug as a rapper but his verse here was surprisingly good. It's definitely one of my big faves of the second half of the year. From the moment I first listened to this properly I had a good feeling it would be a future number one in my chart, and it did get there of course spending five weeks at #1, which would've been ten if Calvin's 'My Way' never got released - very impressive. It has such an insane and unique drop, in fact everything about this is amazing - even the sampled Charlie Puth vocals, and I hate Charlie Puth! Unsurprisingly this got a lot of Radio 1 airplay and it even made the UK top 40 for a few weeks although peaking criminally low (#29!). I really want another song from him now, it's been a while - though we at least got a few remixes in the meantime. And we did eventually get a follow-up but it seems we're on a one song a year quota from him. :drama: 'Run' will be appearing much later on. Meanwhile this is still amazing. Not everyone's cup of tea but I do like this kind of rap a lot, the production and sample are excellent (and apparently 21 produced the song himself though it definitely has a Metro Boomin influence) and the hook is proper catchy.
