. Nimmo ~ Dancing Makes Us Brave
Date entered: 21/10/16
Chart sales: 306,300
Chart run: …-5-7-7-36-60-80-x-93-97-x [8 weeks (14 total)]

Nimmo looked as if they had potential but haven't actually really done anything since this great pop song, shame Radio 1 never gave this a chance. Anyway this took a big hit from the Christmas invasion and never recovered, which I suppose is just tough luck.

#
. LIONE ~ Leave This Place
Date entered: 03/02/17
Chart sales: 307,100
Chart run: 86-83-57-39-32-53-57-94-97-x [9 weeks]

This very Porter Robinson sounding tune which was released on Martin Garrix's label got sent to BJSC by Cody, and it's not the only entry of his that will appear in this chart either. A big standout of the BJSC year for me anyway and I hope to hear more from them soon.

#
. Mura Masa and Charli XCX ~ 1 Night
Date entered: 07/04/17
Chart sales: 309,000
Chart run: 92-89-73-31-34-36-36-45-56-64-95-x [11 weeks]

Shame Mura Masa never really took off, this song was begging to be a hit and Charli is great on it, though it eventually got overshadowed by another song of hers that we'll be seeing much further up the chart. Mura Masa has also been a constant disappointment since, sadly.

#
. Disciples ~ Jealousy
Date entered: 06/10/17
Chart sales: 309,100
Chart run: 21-29-21-28-31-33-38-46-… [8 weeks (so far)]

Following their huge single 'On My Mind' which we'll see way up in the chart was 'Jealousy' which unfortunately didn't get a commercial push but I doubt would've been a hit single anyway. I love the UK garage vibes on this and it's something I'd like to hear more of. Though ultimately it is a bit of a comedown from their previous single.

#
. Galantis ~ True Feeling
Date entered: 21/07/17
Chart sales: 310,800
Chart run: 56-60-67-74-98-52-56-57-70-92-x [10 weeks]

Galantis have had a bit of a hit and miss year really, they're well past their peak but can still make a decent banging commercial house tune as seen here with 'True Feeling'.

#
. Enrique Iglesias ~ Subeme La Radio (feat. Descemer Bueno and Zion & Lennox)
Date entered: 21/07/17
Chart sales: 310,800
Chart run: 66-47-35-29-35-37-52-88-x [8 weeks]

With the Latin invasion of 2017 it was inevitable that Enrique would capitalise on it releasing a Spanglish remix of this song, though I prefer the Spanish version and that is the version that charts here. It's quite catchy actually though the reggaeton sound is quickly beginning to get stale.

#
. Drake ~ Fake Love
Date entered: 28/10/16
Chart sales: 312,400
Chart run: …20-36-68-x-86-86-91-98-x-38-45-45-58-57-x [12 weeks (17 total)]

Another Drake song, this one was released at the tail end of last year and re-entered my top 40 following the 'More Life' release. It's an extremely catchy song but the slightly annoying accent he puts on in the chorus keeps it from being one of my all time Drake faves.

#
. Calvin Harris ~ Faking It (feat. Kehlani and Lil Yachty)
Date entered: 07/07/17
Chart sales: 313,100
Chart run: 19-19-23-24-29-46-59-78-x [8 weeks]

Another Calvin Harris album track now, well except this is actually a proper single for some reason though this chart run is entirely from when it wasn't. It was the wrong decision when they had 'Skrt On Me'. This is great though, Kehlani has a nice voice and Lil Yachty has an amusing line about pizza. Kinda reminds me of 00s RnB which is a good thing to throw back to.

#
. Calvin Harris ~ Heatstroke (feat. Young Thug, Pharrell Williams and Ariana Grande)
Date entered: 07/04/17
Chart sales: 315,200
Chart run: 34-33-69-88-x-23-36-67-86-x [8 weeks]

Oh what's this another Calvin Harris single? Yep he really has dominated this year, in fact he's had even more plays this year than Avicii, though it helps that he had more new songs out. This one was quite disappointing though mostly because of the underuse of Pharrell and Ariana. Young Thug really isn't that great of a rapper and can't carry a song by himself. It is a decent song, just that #23 for a Calvin single is a bit of a flop in my chart (and that was only following the album release). It fits well in the album but shouldn't have been a single.

#
. Zara Larsson ~ Ain't My Fault
Date entered: 09/09/16
Chart sales: 315,400
Chart run: …-26-28-53-x-74-69-73-80-x [7 weeks (19 total)]

Zara just about manages to keep this in the top 200 for a second year thanks to the strength of her album impact as well as us catching it at the end of its initial run. Another great single from her but we got even better yet to come..

1 Night   also completely NOT HERE for you saying Mura Masa has been a constant disappointment since, his album was amazing I will fight you

Absolutely love Quit
just saw that it made #1 for you, it is quite good but I don't love it that much.

I like Alone and Anywhere.

Rita's starting to do club music now, from what I'm hearing.

I wouldn't say what Rita's doing counts as club music (agree with MLHammer).

Great to see Hurricane here  It'll probably make an appearance in mine as well!
It really stood out in its contest, though it winning was a bit of a surprise.

Queen Selegend turning opinions around *.*
Guess you could say that, she makes 'Wolves' as good as it is.

1 Night   also completely NOT HERE for you saying Mura Masa has been a constant disappointment since, his album was amazing I will fight you
I haven't heard anything that I liked since '1 Night'. :(
With the Latin invasion of 2017 it was inevitable that Enrique would capitalise on it releasing a Spanglish remix of this song
Enrique has been doing this type of thing for a while now :P Justice for Bailando though, that should have been a hit in the UK.

Love seeing LIONE on here, pretty sure he's just one person though? He also released something that wasn't a remix last month! It's v. Seven Lions this time more than Porter :D

I suppose it is just one person then, wasn't sure and cbb to look up.

'Adore' sounds great too! will add to my playlist.

yeah 'Bailando' should've been a UK hit but we clearly weren't into reggaeton back then.

Hey Dan,

Some great songs in that section,

Calvin Harris's two songs are really good especially Heatstroke which is so underrated on this site :/

I also love 1 Night and Ain't My Fault

Actually good set overall like all songs!

True Feeling never really clicked with me, I much preferred Rich Boy (even if I appear to be the only person in the UK to think that), and Tell Me You Love Me :(

Edited by PeteFromLeeds

:hi: Dan!!

Definitely a big shame that Mura Masa hasn't broken through properly still as you mentioned :( "What If I Go" obviously should have been THAT song for him but all of "Lovesick", "1 Night" and "All Around the World" have all been really good in my opinion and very well produced. Haven't listened to any of the recent singles of his though :o

"Heatstroke" above "Faking It" !! :o The former really did grow on me in the context of the album but it is still one of my least favourite songs on there whereas the latter was an immediate highlight aside from "Skrt on Me". Kehlani just sounds so sleek on it and Lil Yachty's rap is a lot of fun too, a bit gutted it doesn't seem to be doing anything charts wise

Heatstroke got a hard time even from me, it just ain't as good as he is capable of. :(

I think Lewis loved Rich Boy too, I certainly didn't though.

'What If I Go' and '1 Night' were both top 40s for me. He lost it with 'All Around the World' imo.

Well they are basically on the same level, Kehlani sounds a lot like Ashanti which I like anyway.

I like 1 Night.

Fake Love is pretty decent

I need to listen to the Nimmo track. She sounds good from what I've heard.

She's got quite a unique voice, quite androgynous sounding. 'Dancing Makes Us Brave' is my favourite Nimmo song to date anyway.

~thanks for the comments~

Lots of great songs so far, my particular faves being SÚBEME LA RADIO, Ain't My Fault and of course Anywhere  shame it ended so low but understandable with your formula plus the long runners your chart produces!

#
. Ramin Djawadi ~ Game of Thrones (KSHMR and The Golden Army Remix)
Date entered: 21/07/17
Chart sales: 316,700
Chart run: 6-3-5-11-30-44-x [6 weeks]

I don't watch Game of Thrones, but it has a great theme tune, which sounds even better given the KSHMR treatment. It seemingly went off me as fast as it grew though with surprisingly few weeks in the chart for a #3 hit.

#
. Kideko and George Kwali ~ Crank It (Woah!) (feat. Nadia Rose and Sweetie Irie)
Date entered: 12/08/16
Chart sales: 318,000
Chart run: …-18-21-42-92-89-61-64-65-78-90-x [10 weeks (26 total)]

A proper banger that finished highly last year, Kideko is yet to follow up with a tune half this good with recent single 'Dum Dum' disappointing with just a #40 peak.

#
. EDX ~ Bloom
Date entered: 28/07/17
Chart sales: 319,300
Chart run: 78-49-38-40-36-41-55-69-100-x [9 weeks]

EDX keeps pumping out the tunes like there's no tomorrow. With tunes like this it's easy to see why he's on top of his genre.

#
. Armand Van Helden vs. Butter Rush ~ I Need A Painkiller
Date entered: 06/10/17
Chart sales: 324,200
Chart run: 29-21-25-23-28-23-27-30-… [8 weeks (so far)]

House legend Armand Van Helden still has it, if only he experienced a similar revival to MK in the chart because this would make for an amazing chart hit. With house diva vocals and a catchy groove, it's an undeniable banger.

#
. Anne-Marie ~ Ciao Adios
Date entered: 17/02/17
Chart sales: 324,800
Chart run: 83-60-36-35-42-61-66-62-57-70-x [10 weeks]

Anne-Marie has grown into one of Britain's big pop ladies, and this song was just made for chart success. With a twist on the tropical pop formula though this sounds fresh and is one of the year's better pop hits. The hook line is a big mic drop moment too.

#
. BLR ~ NUNGWI
Date entered: 06/01/17
Chart sales: 326,300
Chart run: 25-24-30-37-44-45-67-81-92-x [9 weeks]

A nice chilled meets future house instrumental.

#
. Tom Zanetti ~ You Want Me (feat. Sadie Ama)
Date entered: 30/09/16
Chart sales: 326,400
Chart run: …-32-32-45-97-81-60-75-70-66-78-x [10 weeks (19 total)]

That bassline is massive. Quite unfortunate for this that its chart run was split down the middle of the two years which means it appears in the top 200 again without making the top 100. And I found 'More & More' quite disappointing so that didn't get anywhere near this list.

#
. Smith & Thell ~ Statue (The Pills Song) (BUNT. Remix)
Date entered: 06/10/17
Chart sales: 327,700
Chart run: 20-19-15-16-36-44-63-68-… [8 weeks (so far)]

I was introduced to the original through a BJSC spin-off but this works much better as a folk house track, BUNT. really have something and I'm excited for what 2018 is for them. It's very 'Hey Brother'.

#
. Tobtok ~ Aber
Date entered: 15/07/16
Chart sales: 329,500
Chart run: …-x-53-53-56-51-63-72-84-x [7 weeks (30 total)]

Once again trickle sales are now a thing on my EOY charts, this was very big for me last year and managed to re-enter once the Christmas songs left. If it passed you by then take a listen it is truly amazing (house instrumental).

#
. TheFatRat ~ The Calling (feat. Laura Brehm)
Date entered: 08/04/16
Chart sales: 330,600
Chart run: …-70-63-97-x-89-77-87-79-89-x-80-67-57-… [11 weeks (45 total...so far)]

And now we get to the only instance of a chart run with an ellipsis either side of it. As you'd know if you enter BJSC the recent re-entry was off the back of it being our entry to the 100th contest, something we really wanted to save for a special occasion as this is one of my absolute faves of recent times (it was my EOY #4 last year). There'll be plenty more of the oversized rodent to come too. :D Again I can't recommend this song enough.

. Throttle ~ Found You (Make Me Yours)
Date entered: 30/06/17
Chart sales: 331,700
Chart run: 44-43-37-31-31-32-34-49-x [8 weeks]

Decent future house tune though the pitching is a bit overdone.

#179. Soulé ~ Troublemaker
Date entered: 12/05/17
Chart sales: 331,700
Chart run: 47-44-56-62-66-62-64-52-65-75-x [10 weeks]

Quite a nice tropical pop song.

#
. Rhodes vs. Felix Jaehn ~ Your Soul (Holding On)
Date entered: 06/01/17
Chart sales: 332,200
Chart run: 55-59-57-61-76-68-82-92-90-98-x [10 weeks]

Felix Jaehn has had a disappointing year, aside from this half decent effort of a remix he's not released anything I've particularly enjoyed.

#
. P!nk ~ What About Us
Date entered: 25/08/17
Chart sales: 337,600
Chart run: 72-73-62-58-63-83-86-85-80-81-86-91-97-x [13 weeks]

Best song she's done in years, thankfully a huge step up from Just Like Fire. Michael triggered.

#
. MK ~ My Love 4 U (feat. A*M*E)
Date entered: 11/11/16
Chart sales: 338,100
Chart run: …96-x-54-44-46-50-49-57-86-96-x [9 weeks (12 total)]

Not hard to see why this never took off, it's good but not outstanding like '17' or 'Piece of Me'.

#
. Alex Ross ~ Dreams (feat. Dakota and T-Pain)
Date entered: 31/03/17
Chart sales: 338,900
Chart run: 50-49-49-54-58-64-64-66-62-63-75-99-x [12 weeks]

I thought this was actually going to do something but that never happened, not too big of a loss for the chart though. It's a decent enough tropical house cover but I suppose we've had enough of those now.

#
. The Magician and Julian Perretta ~ Tied Up
Date entered: 07/04/17
Chart sales: 345,800
Chart run: 77-70-59-32-33-35-35-44-50-61-97-x [11 weeks]

Whatever The Magician does it seems won't be half as good as 'Sunlight' but this is quite a nice dance pop song.

#
. nanobii ~ Chipland
Date entered: 12/05/17
Chart sales: 352,900
Chart run: 71-37-25-26-32-40-46-57-82-95-x [10 weeks]

Love a bit of chip tune when it's done right, nanobii is someone I should be watching more closely. This got top marks from us in BJSC.

#
. Alok and Bhaskar ~ Fuego
Date entered: 31/03/17
Chart sales: 353,200
Chart run: 80-68-61-58-30-32-51-54-73-86-96-x [11 weeks]

Got a meaty drop to this and love the Spanish vibes.

#
. EDX ~ High On You
Date entered: 09/12/16
Chart sales: 353,200
Chart run: 90-25-42-64-31-35-43-54-59-71-95-x [11 weeks]

Another banging EDX tune, he pumps out the goods.
Nice to see I Need a Painkiller, Found You and Tied Up here! All former Top 40s for me but I did go off Tied Up really quickly (plus I discovered it just before Eurovision so that didn't really help)

Nice to see Your Soul (Holding On), What About Us and Tied Up here!

I really enjoy your Year-End chart right now.

I'm currently editing my own Year-End chart, you inspired me to do this!

Thank you for that!

'Anywhere' is set to be one of said long runners, it now spends its sixth week in my top 2, so should end up fairly high next year unless it crashes down the chart.

Tied Up is good but ultimately there's lots of better songs of its type so I don't really revisit it.

Looking forward to seeing your year-end list, we seem to like a lot of the same stuff.

Hi Dan

Yay at Kideko sneaking in fairly high despite having a run last year too. I think it still continues to grow on me with every listen. I wasn't keen on it all now but it really does go OFF when you play it out loud. The definition of a banger :music:

Ciao Adios is easily my favourite of these last couple of batches though, just so summery and fresh sounding. I liked Heavy a lot too tbh but I hope she has more in store that is as good as this
