#23: MOWE - Skyline

Peak: 01 / Month of Peak: May 2017

MOWE's Chart History:

2016 01 Lovers Friends (MOWE & Daniel Nitt)

2016 06 Your Skin (MOWE ft. Bright Sparks)

2017 01 Boy Oh Boy (MOWE ft. Jerry Williams)

2017 01 Skyline

2017 15 One Love

2018 67 Around the World (MOWE ft. Lisa Pac)

The second of three MOWE tracks in my Top 100, this took me by surprise as an amazing summer smash and was one of their best yet! I loved it instantly, and as of now it's the last MOWE song I really loved as their more recent stuff has been into that generic annoying dance :( They've got a new one on Friday which seems promising though!

I hadn't really given this a chance on its first release, but thankfully it got a re-release after I loved The Kids Don't Wanna Come Home, and I'm so glad it did! This song is a real grower, the lyrics really working with the beat and the vocals are absolutely outstanding  Let's hope he gets some new music out soon and doesn't just continue to release his entire album as singles :P

Sheppard's Chart History:

2017 01 Keep Me Crazy

2017 01 Edge of the Night

2017 25 Coming Home

As much as I adored Keep Me Crazy, I was fairly sure that their follow-up would be very similar and therefore I would be disappointed and get bored of it fairly quickly. What I wasn't expecting was for them to release THIS. Completely different to anything else they've released, they've combined a funky guitar beat with some amazing-sounding robotic vocals which creates something that I really feel could have done well in the charts if it had caught the attention of the mainstream. Unfortunately I guess that means I'll have to keep this gem to myself

2017 03 Sober Up (AJR ft. Rivers Cuomo)

Ooh, it's finally got a video after six months of waiting! :P BJSC Niceland flops AJR had their album out this year, and the main song they pushed was this jam *.* Loved it when i just heard a clip, and I was initially disappointed that this wasn't the song being pushed, but it seemed that this was unofficially the single, so I went with it. I hadn't heard of Rivers Cuomo before, but apparently he's quite famous so oops.

Really like Skyline, such a nice, chilled, tropical tune

Sober Up is really great too, I never got round to listening to their album though! That and Weak are the only ones I’ve heard, I really should listen at some point

The highest worship song in my countdown makes an appearance at #19 in the form of Casting Crowns' 'Oh My Soul'. It's not generally the type of music I like, but the slow ballad-like chorus was just something that really resonated with me, and the vocals and melody are really just beautiful. They also had my Christmas #1 this year, but that will appear in next year's EOY.

It was kind of fluke-y I actually discovered this, with it being #20 in someone's YouTube Top 20 one week when I decided to watch it. Whilst it's fairly slow, the vocals are really nice and the lyrics are great also. Unfortunately I came up with the amazing idea of listening to my favourite songs at college whilst doing work, so now it just reminds me of revising :P

2017 23 Lonely Together (Avicii ft. Rita Ora)

2017 65 You Be Love (Avicii ft. Billy Raffaoul)

And at #17 we have the only highest charting Avicii single, and the one that only just dropped out of my Top 100 this week. It also just misses out of my Top 10 #1s of the

year which will probably annoy Dan :P I initially decided it would only peak in the Top 5 as it wasn't a proper single, but then I switched it up with my new format, of which this was the first new #1. It still sounds great now, even if the video wasn't really what I was expecting from it.

(I've also just realised how similar the thumbs for this and Cold Ain't For Me are :o)

2016 04 Take the World By Storm

2017 10 Drunk in the Morning

Lukas Graham missed the Top 10! :o :o :o This was a release for the My Little Pony movie, for which I have absolutely no interest in whatsoever, but as any good Lukas Graham fan would I lapped it up. It is vary upbeat in contrast to their last album which was nearly all ballads, but it works quite well, and they've kept up their 100% Top 10 hit streak. Which will probably change when they release an album with more than 10 songs on it.

CoCo and the Butterfields' Chart History:

2017 03 Battlegrounds

And we have our highest ranked BJSC entry! On first listen I didn't really 'get' this, the combination of opera-style vocals, a fast-moving melody, brass and male vocals made it seem a little odd. But it had grown on me even by the second listen, and ended up getting my 7 in the BJSC final (such a shame it wasn't my 18). It continued to grow on me after that though, and became one of my favourite songs of the year! Turns out I already knew the woman in this as Dulcima from Eurovision, and I remember the songs sounding a little strange but it probably would have grown!

At #14 is one of my big discoveries in terms of bands this year, Danish trio New Politics. What I liked about One of Us is that it isn't your typical rock song, it's the type of songs that takes me back to an era I didn't even live to experience, reminding me of Queen or some other band I'm fairly familiar with but never got to experience at the time. It continued to grow as well, and it's one of the best songs from a new artist this year!

Who couldn't love this? Walk Off the Earth delivered once again with the amazing earworm Taekwondo, which is probably the cheesiest track with the cheesiest video you could ever imagine, but it just really works! They've also beaten last year's #1 Lukas Graham which is back down at #16. Unfortunately it looks like this'll be their last Top 10 single if dreadful dance crossover NOMAD is anything to go by.

I really don't get all the hate for this, up until this every Galantis song got better and better and this was the peak of the mountain for me, finally getting Galantis their #1 in my Personal Chart. The drop is really nice and the vocals are really memorable - it seems like the perfect dance track for me. Unfortunately everything since has been much worse, although Tell Me You Love me has been #1 and dropped out of my chart since I started this thread. So much for getting it over with quickly this year.

And just missing the Top 10 is Polish DJ C-BooL with the third single I've come to know from him, DJ Is Your Second Name. I have to say I wasn't as instantly impressed by this as I was by his other singles, but it grew on me quickly, and the lyrics based on what he does in his everyday life are very easy to remember as well. I probably still prefer Never Go Away, but this is great as well!

In tenth is one of my favourite alternative bands that I've discovered over then past couple of years. This song has a real vibe to it that I really got on board with it, and the wacky lyrics are a real earworm! All strung together with an amazing guitar riff and you've got an amazing song that I really recommend you listen to if you haven't already!

good to see Avicii make the top 20 here, love Friend Of Mine. Would've made for a great single though probably not one that would've been a chart hit in the 2017 climate.

I don't actually know any of your top 10 oops.

rooting for Alessia in your top 10, such a great song and easily my fave from her
