SCISSOR SISTERS STAGE GHOST HUNT FOR MAGAZINE ARTICLE Source: ContactMusic http://images.contactmusic.com/images/artist/thescissorsistersap.jpg Pop group the SCISSOR SISTERS staged the oddest interview with US men's magazine Blender ever when they hired a psychic voodoo queen to seek out ghosts at their favourite New York haunt. The quintet were told they could do anything for their first Blender article and decided to hire paranormal expert JACKIE BARRETT to play ghost buster at Greenwich Village club Mr Black. The fun idea quickly turned serious, however, when ghosts of past drag queens and revellers who once frequented the club attempted to contact singers JAKE SHEARS and ANA MATRONIC. Barrett discovered the ghost of a young girl who was beaten to death in the club, a former brothel, who left Shears gasping for breath, while the spectre of an elderly man haunting the club's bathroom attempted to make contact with Matronic. She told Barrett, "I've been in here many times and felt like someone is watching, and people have seen full apparitions in here." Matronic was later left in tears - all chronicled in a piece in the current issue of the publication - when a orphaned girl who died in the venue attempted to contact her from the grave. Barrett explained, "She has picked you because of your long hair." The club the group chose to investigate for the article has a macabre history - Church of Satan founder ANTON LaVEY was a fan of the New York haunt and gave a previous owner a pentagram tapestry as a gift. The tapestry now covers a cocktail table in the venue's VIP room.

October 21, 200618 yr Author SCISSOR SISTERS TO CONTINUE TOURING WITH NEW DRUMMER Source: Contact Music Scissor Sisters have drafted in a temporary replacement for drummer PADDY BOOM so they can resume their world tour. The I DON'T FEEL LIKE DANCING group was forced to cancel American shows earlier this month (OCT06) because Boom was struggling with a recurring back problem. Boom is making a steady recovery and will rejoin his bandmates as soon as he is given the all-clear. A band statement reads: "Our tour is back on schedule. We spent our days in Chicago rehearsing with a temporary replacement for Paddy. He's amazing, and we are confident that he will do the show justice until Paddy is ready to return. "Paddy is getting himself back on his feet and he's gonna be back onstage with us as soon as the docs give him the A-OK."
October 25, 200618 yr Author Scissor Sisters' show is as dazzling as their fans By James Reed, Boston Globe Staff | October 24, 2006 If you thought there were a lot of bedazzled outfits and fur-trimmed coats in the lobby, you should have seen the performers onstage at the Orpheum Theatre Sunday. As for the crowd, there was enough leopard print to make Danielle Steel jealous. And that was just the men. The Scissor Sisters have that effect on their fans, who obviously think of a Sisters show as more than a performance: It's an outing (yes, in so many ways). It's nice to see the Sisters always seem just as excited to be in front of these adoring fans, who turned the opening song, "Take Your Mama," into a massive sing-along. As usual, Ana Matronic played the demure sidekick to fellow singer Jake Shears for all of two songs, giving Shears a chance to shine. (So many sequins on a glistening torso will do that to you.) But once she was introduced, this time as "gorgeous and ginger-haired," Matronic became the brassy ringleader who implored the crowd to forget about work tomorrow morning. Because, she said, the Sisters fear nothing -- be it full-on body funk from being on the road or wearing white after Labor Day. It's all fierce, she said. She and Shears bounced barbs off each other like a pinball machine. She teased him about his dancing, and he goaded her into telling bad jokes. Setup: "What does Laura Bush do with her old clothes?" Punchline: "She wears them!" That, of course, was the perfect segue into "Laura," which ignited yet another sing-along. The band is touring behind its new album, "Ta Dah," and aside from the first single, "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'," the new songs haven't caught on just yet. "Kiss You Off" may not have bowled over the crowd, but it will soon enough. Its chorus is a club anthem waiting in the wings: "I don't need another tube of that dime-store lipstick/ Well, I think I'm gonna buy me a brand-new shade of man." Ever the showman, Shears relished those lines. Strutting in a glittering suit with tails, he brought to mind 30 years of gay icons: Elton John, Freddie Mercury, Fred Schneider, David Bowie (humor me), and a pinch of Mick Jagger (please don't send me hate mail). Bonus: He dances like rock's sexiest marionette. All this raises the question: Why aren't the Scissors Sisters, a true sensation in the UK, bigger in this country? It's certainly not for lack of sparkle. These twisted Sisters have plenty of that.

The star made his comeback on Saturday (October 21) at Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom in the band's native New York. Boom took the microphone from frontman Jake Shears during the show and told the audience that 20 years ago he was living at a nearby YMCA and playing weekly at The Rec, adding: "We've come a long way since then." Boom had been temporarily replaced at recent shows due to ongoing back problems. He played several dates earlier on the US tour despite his condition, but the extent of his problem led to the cancellation of three shows and the subsequent hiring of a replacement. The 90-minute set saw the band perform tracks from their latest album'Ta-Dah' including 'Paul McCartney' and 'Kiss You Off', as well as older hits such as 'Take Your Mama', 'Filthy/Gorgeous' and 'Comfortably Numb'. Dedicating 't*ts On The Radio' to the recently closed down CBGB, singer Ana Matronic wished the club well in its new home of Las Vegas. As previously reported, Scissor Sisters return the UK on for a special Halloween charity gig at London's Brixton Academy on October 31.
October 25, 200618 yr Author Scissor Sisters Take Your Mama Source: The Bostonist.com http://www.bostonist.com/attachments/boston_jon/ScissorSisters_Orpheum1.jpghttp://www.bostonist.com/attachments/boston_jon/ScissorSisters_Orpheum2.jpg The Scissor Sisters finished their North American tour at the Orpheum Sunday night to a capacity crowd of gender bender hipsters and straight freaks alike. Less than two years ago the band was playing at TT the Bears and beginning to ride the wave created by their disco version of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb." Although the single off of their sophomore album, "Ta-Dah," is getting regional airplay it was obvious that most people were there because of either their first album or just plain curiosity. Replete with disco beats there's something different about a Scissor Sisters show because this is a real band that's playing, not the Pet Shop Boys. Yes, a band that plays dance music with real drums, basses, banjos, and acoustic guitars among other things. Flamboyant frontman Jake Shears guided a performance that equally featured the new and old material, the result being that "Comfortably Numb" was just one of several highlights of the evening and not the highlight. Boston-born drummer, Paddy Boom, returning to the lineup after a brief illness, did his hometown right and was the last one off the stage after finishing an encore set that culminated with the pleaser "Filthy/Gorgeous". With "Ta-Dah" at the top of the British charts it's entirely likely that the Sisters will be stomping their disco boots in an even bigger venue upon their next pass through town.
