If they don't play the chart in the final week of the year it won't matter surely - it'll just make chart history look stupid if all these classic xmas tracks managed to repeak in 2017 but never after that - it'll make the charts of December 2017 look wrong completely!

Yeah unless we get an ed sherran type situation every year or streaming is suddenly taken out of the charts I think there is a strong chance streaming has only really taken off over the last 3 years and we already have 5 Christmas songs streaming more than a million on Christmas day

Christmas commercialism is only gonna get worse so I can see songs getting streamed a million times earlier in December

True I don't think Mariah and Wham were so high on streaming throughout December last year?

If they do that they are a bunch of grinches  its not like ed where the whole album would have been at least a month and most artists don't have more than 1 Christmas song

Also if they do that they should only allow 3 song with summer or sun etc in the title at once (which is ridiculous I know but same concept)

I agree mainly because I love the yearly nostalgia we get every December in the chart - if we can't have successful new Christmas hits can we not have this!

NB Sia did get a new Christmas track top 40 this week tho :cheer:

And more importantly Leona Lewis made top 20 again, on her way to becoming a Christmas classic!

I don't think we had the Top 100 end of year chart last year, I think it was watered down a bit to include a quick top 10 singles chart rundown, unless I'm suffering from early Alhzemiers :(

Furthernote, I don't mind a couple of Xmas tracks to make the chart look festive, but 23 really!!!!! do we really need it, when a week later they drop like a brick, and all the old music comes flooding back in droves.
I think it's entirely possible it will happen any year soon. I mean, Mariah and Wham! would have both been #1 this year if Ed Sheeran didn't exist.

Actually they were at 3 and 4 in the all-important Christmas chart (behind Ed and Eminem/Ed), which is the chart this thread is talking about. I fully expect that either could easily be #1 the week after Christmas of course!

Well, my point still stands that one of those would have been the Christmas #1 if Ed didn't exist.

True, record labels learn fast tho and from Eminem releasing you might find us reverting back to big new artists finishing the year with a new festive/seasonal hit!
