Great return for Dancing On Ice! Will be interesting to see if it can hold up throughout the series but I think ITV will be happy with that.

21:00 Celebrity Big Brother - 1.60m [Exc. +1: 1.31m (6.1%)]

Silent Witness is up 200k on the 2017 series opener, although that faced 4.65m that were watching The Halcyon on ITV. If The Halcyon was considered an underperformer, then it doesn't bode well for Next of Kin.

Soaps still doing well, with both Corrie and Eastenders receiving 2018 highs and Emmerdale not far off.

Emmerdale and Eastenders reaching new 2018 highs - great to see the latter at nearly 7m; its highest since 7.33m watched on 26th January 2017.

Eastenders needs to accept it is 3rd now in soaps. Maybe one day 4th after Hollyyoaks and its +1.

I read on Digital Spy that changes are coming to the way BARB produces its data. From March, apparently viewing iPlayer/Hub on any device, not just through TV, will be included in the ratings.

I suspect this will help Eastenders the most out of the soaps, probably Hollyoaks too.

It will certainly help EastEnders close the gap a bit as it has greater viewing on iPlayer than the ITV soaps have on ITV Hub.

Friday 12th January

BBC 1

19:00 The One Show - 3.84m (19.8%)

19:30 A Question of Sport - 3.07m (15.4%)

20:00 EastEnders - 5.95m (29.4%)

20:30 Room 101 - 3.00m (14.2%)

21:00 Would I Lie to You? - 3.68m (18.4%)

21:30 Mrs Brown's Boys (Repeat) - 2.88m (15.1%)

-

22:35 The Graham Norton Show - 3.20m (27.4%) [22:45-23:30]

ITV (inc. +1)

19:00 Emmerdale - 6.59m (34.0%)

19:30 Coronation Street - 7.21m (36.1%)

20:00 River Monsters - 2.71m (13.4%)

20:30 Coronation Street - 6.95m (32.8%)

21:00 Lethal Weapon - 2.41m (12.3%)

Channel 5 (inc. +1)

21:00 Celebrity Big Brother - 1.77m (9.1%)

22:00 Will and Grace - 919k (5.6%)

22:30 Celebrity Big Brother - 1.16m (8.1%)

Series 1 of Lethal Weapon opened with 3.16m so last night's was down 750k, however the average for Series 1 over the 18 episodes was 2.26m and only the first and second episodes received higher than last night, so I'd say that's pretty good retention.

ITV soaps going strong but a shame to see Eastenders dip under 6m, especially after such solid ratings previously in the week. The Friday slot is clearly a problem, dragged down by mediocre surrounding ratings and a much healthier ITV.

Btw that 7.21m figure for Corrie is its highest regular Friday rating (i.e not including BGT week) since 5th February 2016! :o
