As usual, I've omitted any oldies from the list - that means any track from 2015 or older - as I prefer them to be listed in the year of release even if I've only charted them in 2017 for the first time. That way my list is about what's good about the current music scene, rather than what I've been retrospectively listening to. It also stops the chart being filled with multiple tracks by all-too-often recently late pop stars, which is just too depressing to contemplate.

 

So, who's got my top track of the year? Katy! Rival Taylor Swift is in the list too, both in Katy's Swish Swish and her own fab song Better Man, which she generously donated. Hurts have 4 big ones on the list, all inside the top 30, so must take the crown for top act of 2017. Gorillaz have two in the top 20, the oldest act on the list was Leonard Cohen (it was new material), though The Fizz, Sparks, Barry Gibb, OMD, Jeff Beck and Tears For Fears join Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie in the veteran league, Christine and Jeff both first charted in 1969, as lead singer of Chicken Shack (I'd Rather Go Blind), and with Donovan, respectively, so that 48-year-span is pretty impressive.

 

Two sets of sisters on the list charting individually, Miley and Noah, and Kylie and Dannii, Dua Lipa has 2 for the youngster females, while Liam Gallagher, Sparks, John Mayer, The Killers, French Montana, Little Mix and Coldplay all have two on the list. 2 Ex-One Direction acts also feature: Zayn and Liam. Other acts I have maligned over recent years, along with 1D, such as Ed Sheeran and Drake, also feature. Always willing to change my mind at the drop of a hat.... :lol:

Nice choice of #1! I wasn't really expecting much from Katy but I did really like this, it's very catchy and by far my favourite song from her.

 

Crybaby was a great comeback single from Paloma as well, really grew on me over the weeks :D

 

Surprised to see my BJSC hit at #10 on this list as well! I knew you were fond of it but didn't realise how much :o I've just revealed it at #71 on my EOY :P
