Posted January 7, 20187 yr The Nintendo Switch has been named America's fastest-selling home games console. A total of 4.8 million units were sold in the US during the 10 months following the Switch's launch there on 3 March last year. The Switch breaks tradition with the firm's previous home consoles in allowing owners to use it as a portable console for game-playing on the move. One analyst said Nintendo had completely turned its business around. The previous record for the fastest-selling console in the US was Nintendo's Wii, launched in 2006, which went on to be one of the top-selling consoles in history worldwide. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-42577490 SO well deserved, the console is revolutionary and just damn FUN. After the somewhat disappointing Wii-U this has really turned it back round and Nintendo are back on top where they belong.
January 7, 20187 yr I can't see it being huge like the Wii. Ps4 is already long established as the market leader, and many who have Wii aren't upgrading - they never bought i5 for graphics anyway. It is just like Monopoly. It will get these Christmas sales for kids to use at school etc, but it won't be challenging Playstation dominance. The last Wii was challenged by the PS3 in the end anyway. It only has so large a market.
January 7, 20187 yr "I can't see it being huge like the Wii" ... oh it's happening :kink: Edited January 7, 20187 yr by lewistgreen
January 7, 20187 yr Very well deserved! I'm so pleased that Nintendo have turned things around after the general "meh" response Wii U received from many. I've only had the console for two weeks, and I can't see myself getting bored of it. Everything about the console's design and functionality is so efficient/fun, as well as the different ways the joycon can be used. It's delightful! *.*
January 7, 20187 yr I honestly didn't realise it was doing so well! I may have to see about possibly purchasing one. No promises but good for Nintendo.
January 7, 20187 yr Good to see this doing well, the Wii U was pretty shite, I got one and only really used it for Mario kart 8 and the Wind Waker remake, as well as some Virtual Console games but a lot of them I could just play on an emulator or my 3DS or whatever. There wasn't a lot going for it that set it apart from other consoles, like the Wii's focus on motion controls and the Switch's joycon and play on screen or portable thing. The Switch being both portable and a home console is basically what the gamepad for the Wii U should have been! It was a very bare bones concept that they never really quite used properly except very weakly in drawing games and the like. It was very vaguely like having a handheld but it was still tethered to the TV, the only kind of good use I had for it was that if someone had the TV on (my Wii U last year was always downstairs on the communal TV) I could play it on the gamepad while whatever else was on. But that's still very situational and I could have put it upstairs anyway and played it properly. I really want one, I was gonna wait for when the next main series Pokemon game comes out which is confirmed to be on the Switch (well they said USUM was the last for the 3DS so obv it's going to Switch), although that won't be until Q4 2019 I imagine :/ When I said that at first it looked like the 3rd version of Sun and Moon would be on Switch but ofc that turned out to be USUM for the 3DS.
January 11, 20187 yr I'm actually quite surprised at this, I thought the Wii U had killed off any interest in Nintendo from the US market. :o
