💁🏼‍♂️⬆️6 ~ Rude Boy💁🏼‍♂️⬆️

The iconic deep lyrics in this *.* Tbh they're one of the reasons I love the song (which is GODLY), you can tell they're not meant to be taken seriously and she's just doing whatever the hell she wants :kink: This stands out on 'Rated R' quite a lot as the big poppy single, but I could see this being one of the few songs from that time that could be released now and be a hit! It definitely 'rescued' the Rated R era somewhat after the album did disappointingly. As for the song....where do I start. The beats are absolutely incredible, they make it one of those songs that hits you instantly but doesn't burn out. Wikipedia (the fountain of all knowledge x) says Rih got criticism for her vocals in this song which I obviously disagree with, her casual style fits the song perfectly. Bop.

Let's not talk about the video though x

Lyrical Highlights
'Come here rude boy, boy can you get it up?'
'Is you big enough?'
'Tonight, I'ma let you be a rider,
giddy up, giddy up, giddy up babe'
'Give it to me baby like boom, boom, boom'
'Babe, if I don't feel it I ain't faking no, no'
'You say you're a rude boy, show me what you got now'

💋💅💵💵5 ~ Bitch Better Have My Money💵💵💅💋

Urban Rih (solo) always slays. *.* I mean always. Not a single one of the 'urban' tracks on her eight albums are bad but this has to be the best!! The melodies are incredible, as you can hear in the last minute or so which is electric even without her voice *.* The lyrics, the beat, everything is iconic and such a banger *.* It wasn't instant love with BBHMM, it was such a shock after the sound of FourFiveSeconds and I thought how tf are these two going to fit on an album  In the end, I don't think it would've fit on ANTI so it was the right decision to make it a non-album single. It's often regarded as a flop, but I think that's more to do with the peak position as it's actual sales are pretty good, over 400k! It did poorly on pure sales which were the dominant force in the top parts of the charts in 2015, so it's performance was pretty respectable. Disappointing, maybe but not bad at all. Can we please appreciate the flawless video also *.*

Lyrical Highlights
'Y'all should know me well enough'
'Shit, your wife in the backseat of my brand new foreign car'
'Turn up to Rihanna while the whole club fucking wasted,
every time I drop I am the only thing y'all playing'
'I call the shots, shots, shots'
I hated "Bitch Better Have My Money" for such a long time when it was released - it wasn't until I was at a party in the USA (😏) that it properly clicked with me, and I've loved it ever since. The video is such a bold moment from her, one of her most controversial for sure but also one of her very best!

I see what you're doing 👀 :kink: x The video is kinda disturbing but yeah great

👄💁🏽4 ~ Only Girl (In The World)💁🏽👄

I find a lot of songs from Loud/TTT era Rihanna overrated or not even GOOD but not this pop classic *.* It's definitely one of Rihanna's classics with not only the stans but the general public and it's not hard to see why, it's just good, catchy fun pop and that's all that's needed sometimes!! I'll be honest, I'd rather she'd have done an album more like 'Rated R' rather than Loud at that time but this makes it hard to feel too strongly about that. A brilliant pop song <3

Lyrical Highlights
'I want you to love me like I'm a hot ride'
'I wanna make you beg for it,
then I'ma make you swallow your pride'
'Like I'm the only one that's in command'
'Cause I'm the only one who understands,
how to make you feel like man'

💀😈👀3 ~ Disturbia👀😈💀

I know I said in the commentary for ‘Rehab’ that it felt like the predecessor to the ‘Rated R’ album but I’d say this is similar. On the face of it it’s just an of-it’s-time dance pop song but from the lyrics and video there is a darker edge to it, maybe that hinted at things to come? The song really isn’t just a typical dance pop song tbh, it’s absolutely incredible which is why it’s here *.* As I’ve said in other songs, it’s not the instrumental that creates the mood and atmosphere but Rih’s vocals which make the song feel eerie without even trying to  Fabulous backing as well.

Lyrical Highlights
bum bum be dum bum bum de bum bum (lyrical queen x)
‘Feels like I’m going insane yeah’
‘It's a thief in the night to come and grab you,
It can creep up inside you and consume you’
‘You’re in the city of wonder’
‘Release me from this curse I’m in’

FINAL TWO

Omg! Two dance pop bops in your top five! :o I wasn't expecting those there - "Disturbia" probably wouldn't be so high for myself but "Only Girl" is one that grew a lot on me in the years following its release. I was gutted that she didn't perform it on the 'Anti' Tour (but the train driver played it on the journey back :music: )

I was expecting a "Diamonds" win going into this but as that flopped I think it'll be "Take a Bow"? Unless I completely missed that elsewhere!

🙏🏻🤦🏾‍♀️🙏🏻2 ~ Desperado🙏🏻🤦🏾‍♀️🙏🏻

Never would I have thought this would be my #2 favourite Rihanna song even a few months ago! :o This didn't even stand out to me on 'ANTI', I thought it was a good enough album track but not a favourite at all, but the subtle instrumental wound it's way into my head and I was addicted before long. But recently, I've developed a whole new love for it. It's my go to song for her if I'm listening casually and one of MY Rih classics, however much that means ;o The song is also personal to me, because I've been in that situation where there's just nothing left for me in a relationship or place and I need to get out, but I'm scared of being lonely. Probably my fave Rih lyrics of all time or at least some of them   I'm hesitant to say it should've been a single just because I love it so much, but given it's success on the bubbling under and dance charts in America, maybe it would've worked?

Lyrical Highlights
'A man who's heart is hollow'
'I'm not tryna go against ya,
actually I'm going with ya'
'If you want, we can be runaways'
'There ain't nothing here for me anymore,
but I don't wanna be alone'

#1? :o

:heart::heart:1 ~ Take A Bow:heart::heart:

I don't have time tonight to do a detailed commentary so I'll just leave you with this stunning ballad. <3

Thanks to everyone who read and commented, although it felt like I was talking to myself sometimes :kink:

That top two! *.* I probably wouldn't consider "Desperado" anywhere near that high but it's still a huge bop from ha best album *.*

I'm pleased I guessed your winner correctly! :P There are a few of her ballads that I prefer to it (it's a little bit on the whiny side) but it's definitely another turning point for her career.

Thank you for sharing your favourites, Andrew! It's been a fun thread to follow :D Will you be posting a full recap?

If anyone else would like to share their favourite Rihanna songs, feel free!
