So if the new Dr Who is a woman does this mean that Romana, Susan & The Rani can be men?

Well that's a bold move if ever I saw one! :o

I'm impressed, have very little impression of her (though I recognise her from Black Mirror and Attack the Block and I recall her being good) but very interested to see what she can bring.

She was a main focus in Broadchurch aka the new boss's drama so I do think it's a but safe in regard to that. Not quite sure how I feel currently but at least it will finally end 'it needs to be a woman!!!'

Also, it probably means that it definitely is the end for Bill as we should be getting a male companion. :(

Unless they go for same sex sensual tension? Would be a radical change but v interesting! Remember, he/ she is supposed to be a gender bending, fluid sexual alien!

If they are Time Lords, yes.

Of course! It's been established for a while now that Time Lords can change gender in regeneration.

Why would there need to be sexual tension? It's possible for two people to just be friends. Donna perfectly proved that the Doctor's companion can just be a friend. IMO, other than Amy and Rory, the romantic aspects of this show was always its weak spots, so let's just focus on story.

But it is an option!

If done well, why not?

Beautiful actress too. Doctor Whos are usually funny looking like Tennant or Smith.

So was that the announcement? Is Wimbledon over? Thought it was on till 6.30

Well it's different, i'm not complaining time is right i suppose #DrWho13 #jodiewhittaker #DrWho

I really hope she's a bit more upbeat and funny as the Doctor, I can't be doing with dark and moody anymore.

ngl this is one of my current issues because all I keep imagining her is in Broadchurch where the character has to be constantly sad and moody. I need to be picturing her in a more St Trinians light.

I really don't think she would be among my top choices for a female Doctor but I can't fully judge until I've seen her in full action in the role. I'm just relieved its not Kris Marshall tbh.

Now we wait for the companion announcement! :cheer: I do strongly believe that they need to keep the male/female dynamic.

Kris Marshall would have been good though but i'm not opposed to this choice. Should be interesting.

Agreed tbh.

I am so excited by this.

Everyone will be talking aboot it. It will get the show maximum hype, was hinted at all throughout the last season, Missy was the test. Amazing decision. Mind boggling it was on after the men's, not the woman's final though. I guess that was to trick us!!

I was dreading the new doctor after really enjoying Capaldi this past season, but now he can't regenerate fast enough!! Goodbye, Capaldi, great last season, but won't rewatch those crap ones with Clara!

I am so glad they did not cancel the show during its Capaldi Clara nadir when haters like Mikey! were calling for the axe.

It'll be interesting to see how this works out. Even if it's really well done and the scripts are perfect and she's brilliant, there's still going to be a whole bunch of people that will be put off because she's a woman.

And a whole bunch more tuning in oot of interest, which is good considering the HUGE uptick in quality this past season.

The ratings were DIRE. It needs this.

I'm getting some Catherine Tate teas from it tbh. Most people knew her from her sketch show ao imagined she'd just be crude and OTT funny but she proved them wrong when it came to the more serious aspects. Sure she had her comedy moments but not in a Nan kinda way.

Peter was mainly known for comic stuff but was a moody git  so I'm remaining hopeful.

Of course, they will but the question is how long will that interest last and will it be enough

And personally, I didn't think this season was all that great. A few decent episodes but mostly treading water.
