Posted March 31, 200619 yr :( Download Chart Error [source: Chartsingles.net] Sadly Record stores (HMV, Woolworths, Virgin, etc) have gone to the high court earlier today to force the OCC into a temporarily injunction therefore Gnarl's Barkley's sales cannot be included in the chart for this coming Sunday’s Top 40 Singles chart. The OCC have taken this action to remove all download sales causing the single not to chart at No.1, therefore Ne*Yo will remain at No.1 for a second week running. All other download releases have been removed from this week chart, with another casualty from Mary J. Blige & U2, which was also due to chart very high in this weeks chart in the top 20, on download only, its status in the following week chart looks uncertain to gain a top 5 position in the chart. The Gnarls Berkley record company have decided to increase the price of its physical single on Monday to consummate for their loss in profits this week, talk about mass confusion, the knives will be out on Monday and it will go down as one of the biggest cock up in the history of the single charts. A spokesperson at The OCC said "The situation was regretable, however they would unfortunately have to deny Gnarls Barkley a No.1 this coming Sunday." and also added "No futher comments could be made about the inclusion of future downloads at this stage." Gnarls Barkley record company, WEA was unavailable to comment. =========================================
March 31, 200619 yr I've just come home from the pub & heard this on Sky News. I can't say I blame the Record companies. Remember when the rules were changed in December last year because of the X-Factor winner's single - it just confirms that the OCC & the charts are a joke.
March 31, 200619 yr Its a damn shame, the OCC are idiots! Well it's not there fault if the retailers took out an injunction  I wonder why the judge didn't throw it out?
March 31, 200619 yr Why would they up the price of the single to cover lost proffits? they'd still have the sales, but just miss out on the chart position?!?!
March 31, 200619 yr Is this REALLY true!!, WHY would they do that!!?! I guess they feel they are losing control and losing money. If the #1 single wasn't available to be bought in the shop then they have lost all those sales.
March 31, 200619 yr I hope this is just an April Fool. Otherwise it would be terrible news for the singles chart - especially after the Embrace downloads drama last week. I've followed the singles chart since I was 9. The album chart's interesting but it's so slow-moving, it gets horribly affected by HMV sales and mother's/father's/valentine's day. Also it makes people's tastes seem quite conservative - we don't all like Dido! Anything can happen on the singles chart. I hope it's got more life in it yet.

I think you're dead right there. The physical single is on its last legs and when a song can make #1 without being in the shops, what's the point in shops selling singles? But HMV etc. can't complain too much. On Monday, when they change their singles display to reflect the new chart, 'Crazy' will be available and they can proudly display it at #1.

Totally agree with you, the singles chart dipicts what songs were popular at the certain time, the album chart dosn't give out much about the current music scene, and is driven mainly by fanbace and hype, you could argue that the singles chart doesn't show everyones tastes, but you can't deny that in 10 years time people will remember Amarillo and the Crazy Frog being a No.1 single, but do you think we'll remeber the week Journey South knocked Corrine Bailey Rae of the top spot, I don't think so.
April 1, 200619 yr So, is this coming Sunday's chart going to be purely physicals only, or does this just effect first week download only inclusions?

I thought that, but it has been confirmed on the back of Embrace's single last week
