I understand people watching Freaky Friday on YT, but buying it? streaming it? don't get it

For what it's worth, I genuinely don't understand it either. It doesn't even remotely make sense without the video.

I've not seen the video but I find it understandable from listening to it and I like the track

A lot of people probably watched the video first, enjoyed the song and then put it in their Spotify playlists to listen again.

Even without the video or knowledge of the film it references it's not that hard to realise what the concept is from the lyrics anyway, and it's got a catchy beat and hook which is enough for a lot of listeners.

This.

Imagine actually actively searching for the song on Spotify and listening to THAT without the video

Well people are doing it so I'm sure it's not so hard to imagine! :P

Freaky Friday is actually a tune tho tbh

It's a bit of a guilty pleasure for me, been in my head all day. I don't *love* it but I can bop when it's playing. An infectious beat and catchy chorus have more appeal to the general audience than whether the lyrics make sense or not (particularly in a club-friendly song like Freaky Friday).

How delightfully patronising.

Why? It’s a song, your supposed to listen to a song you don’t need a video to listen to it? Plus it didn’t matter to the people that streamed it over 380,000 times yesterday did it?? Bit of a silly response really but hey ho

It’s ridiculous :’)

I think the 'Mans Not Hot' comparison was very apt - it's novelty for sure but also very credible (the beat in particular is irresistible).

I personally would never like to enjoy a Chris Brown song for obvious reasons, but I suppose there’s nothing wrong with having the odd Man’s Not Hot every now and then.

Well that's what I've done, it is a TUNE and really funny, particularly the outro, I've not seen the video yet

I'd say the only appeal is the video not the song
How delightfully patronising.

And calling that song 'credible' when it's about as credible as Scooch performing at the Eurovision is delightfully delusional.

And LET'S NOT with YOU commenting on somebody else being patronising when the reason you're so disliked on this forum is because of THAT very reason

The song still makes sense without the video though, just listen to the lyrics and it is all there.
The song is funny and has decent production to it, yes it’s ridiculous but it’s purposely ridiculous and makes fun of itself all the way through. I much prefer it to Mans Not Hot which was absolute crap in my opinion

Credible may not be the word but you can't really ignore that Freaky Friday has plenty of appeal to a casual audience without the video. It's random and very silly but the British public loves a novelty hit, and much like Man's Not Hot, this has the production of a typical current hit so it'd go down well in clubs.

I think the song is best enjoyed with the video but to say there is no appeal without it is short sighted imo.
