Let's keep it cool guys, we're all allowed opinions ~

For what it's worth, I prefer Ellie's too. I love the delicacy of her version, and it remains one of her best tracks. It's not such a ridiculous opinion and I get where Cqm is coming from - the UK have questionable taste at times but her version of Your Song is approaching a million sales so it must be well appreciated! It's not really comparable to Bob the Builder or anything like that, it's a different type of track entirely.

However, that's not to say Gaga's version is bad. It does a great job of paying homage to the original, and of course she sounds phenomenal.

Nobody said otherwise? Just as people are allowed opinions, so are people allowed to disagree with them.

By blindly swooping in to leap to cqmerqn's defence you have totallt missed the point.

quantity does not equate quality. Just because it sold nearly a million copies does not make it automatically a good song or a classic. Gaga's version not selling that does not mean it is automatically an inferior version.

I mentioned Bob the Builder to back my point up, not to compare them sonically, jesus, I figured that'd be obvious.

Of course people are allowed to disagree, it's the entire point of a discussion forum! However, the tone in here feels way more personal - I've deleted a post that is namecalling and other posts in here are suggesting cqm is silly for thinking otherwise.

I haven't blindly leapt to his defence and I am well aware of the point being made. Quantity and quality are not the same but sales figures are an indicator of what the general public like - if they didn't like it, they wouldn't buy it. This doesn't automatically mean Ellie's Your Song is better, but when it's being called an abomination in here and some are making out that it's ridiculous to like it, it's a relevant point to make! I prefer Ellie's version because it resonates more with me, sales figures have no bearing.

Also I made no reference to comparing Your Song and Bob the Builder sonically, I think you jumped to a conclusion there :P However, I don't think you can compare the UK sending Bob the Builder to #1 with an Elton John cover from a John Lewis ad. They are different cases and chartwise will appeal to different audiences.

I kind of prefer Ellie's version, of Elton songs I think there could have been a better choice for Gaga. Ofc her voice is incredible on anything but it feels a bit middle of the road Joanne album track. Of course it is just a nice cover song rather than anything to necessarily go mad over.

You say people are allowed opinions but call people out for not liking it  if people don't like it then let them not like it, I hate when people have to come in and be like

"OH BUT IT IS A MILLION SELLER NEARLY SO THAT MEANS IT IS POPULAR AND SO IS GOOD" No. It doesn't. Being popular doesn't mean everyone needs to like it.

Also, cqmerqn dishes it out all the time on this forum and gets away with it, but the minute someone does it back to him....GMs step in and defend him. If he can't handle it then he needs to quit. Also, the management need to grow a backbone and stop playing favourites.

I have at no point said people aren't allowed to dislike it! :P Cqmerqn and I were backing up our point of view, that's as far as it went.

Agreed. I'm sorry but all he does is provoke and I feel like he needs to be called out on it when he behaves in such a way because nobody will do anything about it.

Also technically I didn't namecall, I said he was 'being' an objectionable twat (which he very much was).

The report function exists for this reason. Not to sound all robotic and authoritative but if you have an issue, use that or PM a mod.

#24 on US iTunes, #47 in the UK

Clearly the most successful of the tracks released from Revamp so far and probably the one to get the biggest boost after the CBS special airs on 10th.

I really like it. I read she was the only one Elton personally asked to do a track as well and he wanted her to do this paticular track. I bet it sounds even better live

They're close friends (she's Elton's sons godmother) so it's not surprising he asked her really :P
