Yas Scott Mills!!! And only a few days after the April fool about Greg leaving

If Friday is now considered to be part of the weekend, my guess is they will finally be able to drop the 5.45pm Newsbeat so the chart show really will be 3 hours again, though I hope they shake up the format a bit as the top 40 barely changes week to week.

Ooooh this is great news! Happy that they're extending the chart show again, I'd be happy if it were all 40 records actually even if there's less movement these days, and I can't see them going beyond the top 40 so I expect this is what we'll get. Scott is a very competent host too, glad he's finally gotten the gig full time!

I expect this too but would be nice if we also got a throwback #1 and a tip for the next week.

This is amazing news and I'd love hearing all 40 songs again, how is it 'stale' if the show is on just once a week?

They've played a chart breaker before when the chart was 4-7pm so I think we'll probably keep that (especially considering it's New Music Friday)! A retro #1 would be a cool addition actually, I don't expect Radio 1 to be so inspired :')

Because we still had to endure 60 weeks of thinking out loud^

I'll be able to catch more of this now then including the business end (unless it's s belated April fools) and good to hear mills will be presenting.

Scott is the oldest presenter to take it over permanently ever, Tommy Vance who was 41 when he took over in 1982 he had the record until now, Scott is 44..

The ages the permanent presenter took over at....

Alan Freeman 40y

Tom Browne 27y

Simon Bates 31y

Tony Blackburn 36y

Tommy Vance 41y

Richard Skinner 33y

Bruno Brookes 26y

Mark Goodier 29y

Wes Butters 23y

JK 30y

Joel 27y

Fearne Cotton 26y

Reggie Yates 24y

Jameela Jamil 26y

Clara Amfo 30y

Scott Mills 44y

you wouldn't guess he's that old from his radio persona though, I guess that helps, he just doesn't have a radio 2 voice so they can't ship him over.

They don't have to give him a Radio 2 gig at all.

I agree he's OK to stay on R1 for a bit yet though.

Absolutely made up for Scott, they should have given him the show years ago! And a full 3hrs too. As for Dance Anthems, if it's meant to herald the weekend schedule , and the weekend now starts on Friday, wouldst that mean it would be on Thursday evening now?

That's also an interesting list to see Scott will be the oldest incoming presenter, I guess Fluff would be the oldest for an outgoing one, and wasn't SImon Bates only ever cover rather than permanent.

Would David Rodigan count as the oldest outgoing presenter when he eventually leaves? He is 66 and his show is simulcast on R1 and 1Xtra.

Annie Nightingale is 78

Annie Nightingale is 78

Larry Gogan is 83 and he is still on RTE 2fm, BBC radio 1's equivalent in Ireland...

So much for BBC budget cuts then!

Great to see Scott get the gig fulltime. Back in the days of Reggie and Jamela doing it full time we used to look forward to Scott covering to have someone who brought the knowledge and the humour at the same time.

On the other side of the handle it's a shame Dance Anthems is going. I hope it goes to 7pm as I do like Dance Anthems and much prefer it to Annie!

Fearne Cotton was only 26 when she started? :o

I’m surprised at how old Scott is too, to a casual listener it’s probably more obvious but I’ve only ever heard him fill in for the chart show and he doesn’t sound much older than Greg

they'll still have Dance Anthems on its Saturday slot right? makes more sense to just have it on the one day.
