wow totally unexpected, even better than post malone ;) pity the album is so bad, I doubt many people can stomach for instance listening to the opening track multiple times without falling in a coma

Totally expected in my opinion , five years after AM there was clearly going to be massive demand.

I think it is extremely harsh to describe it as 'so bad', I think four out of five sums it up...they have avoided going for the massive singles this time but that doesn't make it a bad Album.

I think it would be better if the OCC took away the streaming points of the lowest streamed (or 12th most streamed to combat really long rap albums with interludes) track for all the album tracks and then allow any track to chart if it streams that much better than the lowest-streamed.

Because at the moment there is still double-counting and album tracks are charting higher than they really should be, just that there's now less of them (just look at some recent top 40 hits by Post Malone, J. Cole and The Weeknd which fell really fast).

It looks like we'll be getting 3 Arctic Monkeys songs top 40 this week but is that because of the song quality or because people are generally listening to the album as a whole and some tracks happen to be more popular or higher up the tracklist than others. I doubt any of the tracks will become proper long running hits especially as it hasn't had a great critical reception and the hype will quickly fade.

I don't think the artist cap rule counts as a solution at all, it's only created more problems.

This way your lest streamed track will get precisely 0 streams, when in fact it will get some individual streams, just not that many. I still stand by my opinion that there should be a system determining whether someone streamed 50% or more tracks from the album in a day. If yes, those streams would count to the albums, if no - then to the singles.

So Rita would have ended up at 22 without the AM tracks? Could that be a top 10 debut for her

Well I suppose there isn't a 100% accurate way of doing it.

With your method that'll still count all the people who listen to the first 3 or 4 tracks of an album then decide they don't like it enough to bother with the rest of it.

To choose the optimal method OCC should measure the error margin I guess.

Your method is easier to calculate though. With my method to determine where the stream should go the engine should go through through all the day's data and gather info. It will need an enormously bigger processing capacity than the OCC have now.

Not sure how long the Arctic Monkeys will stick around for but two tracks already have over 2 million plays, track number one being one which isn't to surprising but also track 6 Four Out Of Five so that might prove to be the most popular song from the album
for instance, i just streamed the arctics album, to do so first I searched for the album title, then clicked on it, Spotify should be able to tell that apart from someone clicking on a single, and counting it only for the album charts

Some people will be glad to see a certain Alice on that playlist. Also promoted today is a Eurovision playlist which has Loreen as song #1 so perhaps she could return to the Spotify top 200!!

That Summer hit song that was released back in January as the number 1 song

EDIT - just seen the next few tracks... not exactly summer playlist

Edited by ElectroBoy

I think the AM songs will drop a lot tomorrow especially if the reaction I've read online is indicative of a lot of other people. The first day is just people checking them out. You have to actually like them to want to listen a second day running.
46. No Roots – Alice Merton

Considering These Days is the first song on this playlist, I'm not surprised Alice is on here. Both are incredibly dull and MOR songs IMO, perfect for a Spotify summer playlist  No Roots will probably reach the Top 10 by June considering it's now being added to playlists (Hot Hits is inevitable now), but I'm not expecting it to be #1 considering Drake is releasing Scorpion that month. Maybe a similar situation to that of These Days and God's Plan will play out!

Edited by Tedward

expected drop x the arctics tracks with the highest being

at #13 (Star treatment) and #15 (Four out of five)

Girls down to #42

/sarcasm

I am surprised AM are that big still, I have never really been into them.

Also, album tracks definitely should chart. The lines between singles and album tracks are fading and if songs are popular, they deserve to be chart hits!

But the way they chart a lot of the time is simply people listening to the album, albeit some develop into hits such as Better Now by Post Malone currently in the top 10 after staying there post release!
