It’s great that Spotify is doing this but they can’t be picking and choosing like they are. Tupac was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman and spent time in prison but that doesn’t stop them supporting his “legacy”

Robbie Williams took drugs- Let’s ban him

Justin Bieber hit someone- let’s ban him

FFS

Not really comparable to X beating up a pregnant woman or R. Kelly having sex with a minor.

They're going to have to remove a lot more artists if that's the standard they're going by... I won't be crying for them losing promotion but they're really just opening themselves up to (justified) allegations of double standards, as indeed XXXTENTACION has already done. They could have just done this without announcing it.

Agreed. I don’t think announcing this was necessary or is actually going to do spotify any favours. Just going to bring to attention how many other artists have similar allegations (currently or historically), which still get heavily promoted.

It is good that they are doing this still.

OH MY GOD. AM takeover!

wow totally unexpected, even better than post malone ;) pity the album is so bad, I doubt many people can stomach for instance listening to the opening track multiple times without falling in a coma

other newies

33 Girls

51 Years & Years

67 Selena

78 Bastille

115 LSD

this just shows how stupid is the 3-song rule, it's stupid that 3 of the Arctic Monkeys album tracks are allowed in, none should be allowed, people are clearly streaming the album, so should count for the album not the single charts, thats double counting

makes zero sense that people streaming track #1 off the album counts for the single charts

I think you say this every time a big new album gets released :P

I had to check for myself whether that was actually true, understandably I was dubious with the amount cqmerqn tends to troll regarding these things.

Those were my first thoughts as well :P

Very true! But he's posting facts there (& hopefully realises how much it annoys people now) so thanks cqmerqn for providing us with that info.

I really hope the album IS a grower. The single "Four Out Of Five" sounds better and better on each listen so maybe the album has promise.

this just shows how stupid is the 3-song rule, it's stupid that 3 of the Arctic Monkeys album tracks are allowed in, none should be allowed, people are clearly streaming the album, so should count for the album not the single charts, thats double counting

makes zero sense that people streaming track #1 off the album counts for the single charts

If anything, surely this is the good thing about the 3 track rule, so we don’t get the whole album in the chart.

I don’t know 100% whether they can clearly differentiate between a full album stream and individual track stream, so I guess this is as good a compromise as we will get. In an ideal world they wouldn’t be double counted in both the singles and album chart I agree.

I think it would be better if the OCC took away the streaming points of the lowest streamed (or 12th most streamed to combat really long rap albums with interludes) track for all the album tracks and then allow any track to chart if it streams that much better than the lowest-streamed.

Because at the moment there is still double-counting and album tracks are charting higher than they really should be, just that there's now less of them (just look at some recent top 40 hits by Post Malone, J. Cole and The Weeknd which fell really fast).

It looks like we'll be getting 3 Arctic Monkeys songs top 40 this week but is that because of the song quality or because people are generally listening to the album as a whole and some tracks happen to be more popular or higher up the tracklist than others. I doubt any of the tracks will become proper long running hits especially as it hasn't had a great critical reception and the hype will quickly fade.

I don't think the artist cap rule counts as a solution at all, it's only created more problems.

Honestly I'd rather count track streams from someone who's playing an album front to back than someone who's playing a playlist they didn't make themselves on shuffle to any capacity.

Great for Arctic Monkeys I guess? The album is a huge step down for them though, #1 next week but I can't imagine many of these songs hanging around any longer
