September 30, 20186 yr I do really think the GH should have come next year with another studio album to follow the year after. Hes definitely a household name but there is probably more interest in his non-musical ventures right now such as The Voice and a GH would be a perfect opportunity to reignite the public's love for his music, allowing good time to capitalise after that with a new album.
September 30, 20186 yr Author I do really think the GH should have come next year with another studio album to follow the year after. Well said to all the above. The Voice has been great for him and I'm delighted he's back doing it again for the next series, but even as a seasoned Olly supporter I would say that has drawn him the most attention and public awareness in the last year certainly.
September 30, 20186 yr They should definitely just focus on the GH, it can easily still have 4 or 5 new songs so that like any other era there can be 2 or 3 singles out of it, if they focused on getting his singles to sell it and then have a few killer new songs he could get a hit to keep the GH ticking over.
September 30, 20186 yr If he is doing a Greatest Hits it should be a stand alone release and not tagged onto an album. It would prob be best if he releases his new studio album and then do the Greatest Hits next year. I do think a Greatest Hits would sell for him either way though.
October 1, 20186 yr Author Just announced this morning that he is performing at BBC Children In Need Rocks at Wembley Arena on 7th November. George Ezra, Rita Ora and Jess Glynne are all on the lineup too.
October 2, 20186 yr Author A new (and very honest) interview with Evening Standard tonight confirms the album is called 'You Know I Know' and is the 6th album and greatest hits double package: https://www.standard.co.uk/showbiz/celebrit...w-a3951636.html He also confirms that Nile Rodgers and Shaggy have (seperately) collaborated with him on two of the songs. One of the new tracks is also called 'Talking To Yourself' and is about his struggle with his mental health after hosting X Factor in 2015. I knew he wasn't in a good way after that period of his career happened (I met him at several signings when he was hosting X Factor) but I really admire him for speaking up. October 2, 20186 yr A Greatest Hits in 2018? There's no point. I was going to say this too, and I guess that’s exactly why they’re doing it as a bonus disc to this album. Makes sense to me tbh
October 2, 20186 yr Hearing about Olly releasing a Greatest Hits seemed bizarre at first but I think that's more because I underestimated how many albums he's released and how many years he's been active. It's mentioned above that a greatest hits collection seems redundant in 2018 but Olly has a strong following among people who buy physical albums and I think a collection of his hits would do well at Christmas, as well as receiving decent streams there after, like The Killers' and Maroon 5's collections. I don't think it should be joint-release with a studio album though. That screams lack of confidence in the studio album doing well on its own merit. His last album managed 400k which is fab in this day and age and I see no reason why a well-handled new album wouldn't be able to go comfortably Platinum either.
October 2, 20186 yr I guess he wanted to release a GH album, but didn't have enough material for 2 discs yet, so they're combining it with the next album
October 2, 20186 yr sounds like both a stupid and desperate idea the album would do just fine being a normal album, it's like if the label is not very confident and at the same time they're ruining the chances of a proper GH doing well in the future really don't get it
October 2, 20186 yr A greatest hits collection with a new album is an unusual concept. It might work for him but could also go against him. The danger is the new album could be overlooked unless marketed correctly. In the era of streaming when greatest hits collections are increasingly seen as being redundant, some artists are trying to come up with original ideas. Both Take That and Sophie Ellis Bextor are releasing best of albums using reworked songs which could prove a popular trend if successful! Edited October 2, 20186 yr by slowdown73
October 3, 20186 yr Author Artwork revealed: It's out November 9th. Pre-order goes live on Friday morning with access to pre-sale for his tour next year!
October 3, 20186 yr Author Oh, tour dates as well - May next year he hits the road, tickets on sale next Friday!
October 3, 20186 yr It's out the same day as Muse, there goes his #1 album streak. :( Their last album didn't do that brilliantly I don't think, so I wouldn't rule Olly out just yet.
October 3, 20186 yr Their last album didn't do that brilliantly I don't think, so I wouldn't rule Olly out just yet. Muse's last album Drones sold 73k in the first week, Olly's sold 58k. I think it could be close, but I reckon Muse will win.
October 3, 20186 yr Muse's last album Drones sold 73k in the first week, Olly's sold 58k. I think it could be close, but I reckon Muse will win. Ah right. I remember Drones opening with that but had it in my head they had another album since which didn't sell as much.
October 3, 20186 yr I reckon Olly will outsell Muse. Their singles from this era haven't had the same amount of hype that "Psycho" did.
