Peking Duk & AlunaGeorge — Fake Magic [1-2-3-5-10-18-xx]

Peking Duk's debut entry to my chart, despite only spending 6 weeks in the Top 20 (the entire chart at the time) "Fake Magic" manages a #18 position in my EOY. I quite like this song although realistically it probably wouldn't be this high especially seeing some of the songs that missed out of the Top 20

OneRepublic — No Vacancy [2-2-3-5-10-13-15-17-xx]

One of the three artists with two songs in my 2017 Top 20, OneRepublic's smash hit "No Vacancy" lands at #17. This song debuted at #2 in the first week of my chart just below "Despacito" which is, of course, yet to come. OneRepublic have released a string of non-album singles continuously since their last studio album in 2016, which was a fantastic album btw even if it was their weakest :P Some of their recent singles have been great like the big hits here, and others have been a bit mediocre and missed my chart completely. The Ryan Tedder-led band have a knack for being extremely hit or miss but fortunately last year they were mostly good songs..

Chart History (to December 2018)

2017 No Vacancy [2]

2017 Truth To Power [13]

2017 Rich Love (with SeeB) [1]

2018 Connection [25]

Both of these songs are really great!

"No Vacancy" was a really great overlooked summer song and "Fake Magic" has great production and great vocals!

Never heard Fake Magic before, sounding quite funky but not something I think I'd go back to! I forgot No Vacancy was even a thing but it is a catchy little piece, used to enjoy it back then.

Too many songs to quote but I'm glad we enjoy much of the same muisc!

No Vacancy is the hit that should've been tbh, as was Rich Love

You've never heard Fake Magic? :o Fair enough as it wasn't much of a hit over here surprisingly! The funky Peking Duk sound and Aluna's vocals really made it for me - their other recent hit Stranger probably would be Top 20 here if I was running this chart from the beginning of last year

Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee ft Justin Bieber — Despacito [1-1-4-8-13-17-19-20-xx]

Arguably the biggest song of 2017 worldwide (if not "Shape Of You") and the song that started the 'Spanglish' trend of music that we're sort of still in. Although with how much "Baby" is struggling right now it's obvious this isn't everyones favourite chart trend :kink: "Despacito" spent two weeks at #1 here after debuting in the first week of my chart, yes that's right this song spent two weeks blocking OneRepublic from the top spot </3 Luis Fonsi's follow-up with Demi Lovato was a small hit here but other than that... none of the three artists involved have had a huge deal of success since  Justin Bieber had a few commercial hits last year but tbh "2U" and "Friends" are both two of my most hated songs of 2017 soooooo good job biebs

Clean Bandit ft Marina & The Diamonds — Disconnect [1-1-2-4-12-xx]

Bit of a shocker here  Top 15 is a non-album single from Clean Bandit and Marina "Disconnect" which spent just five weeks in the chart... This highly anticipated collab was a disappointment to most but that didn't stop my enjoying it for a month then forgetting it existed for 18 months. Clean Bandit are obviously very successful in my chart although current single "Baby" has flopped in favour of two album tracks funnily enough both featuring KYLE  "Symphony" would've been a #1 here just a few weeks earlier but as it entered in my debut chart and quite a way into it's release, it missed out on the top spot officially.

Imagine Dragons — Thunder [18-16-12-7-3-5-10-12-18-20-xx-3-5-12-xx]

The last song in the countdown that wasn't a top 2 hit, "Thunder" was an insanely huge song last year both in my chart and in Australia. It was big in the US too but ACR did it dirty in the UK :( For pretty much all of the second half of 2017 you could not go ANYWHERE without hearing this song out in public. I wasn't complaining though - it's a catchy song and for a lot of people it reminded them that Imagine Dragons were still out there making music. "Thunder" re-entered my chart a while after it's original run with the help of a K.Flay remix, and then further re-entered in the form of a Medley with Khalid's "Young Dumb & Broke" although that songs chart run is separated. Despite it's #3 peak, this has the joint 2nd most-weeks on the chart at 13 weeks (obviously for 2017 only).

OneRepublic & SeeB — Rich Love [1-1-2-3-11-17-xx]

OneRepublic's second song in the top 20 is the SeeB collaboration "Rich Love", and up until very recently this was SeeB's only chart appearance ever! OneRepublic have had a handful of hits in my charts history but SeeB's latest collaboration with Bastille was an instant top 5 hit meaning he's two for two here :P I haven't listened to this song in a while but it definitely earns it's position at #13 - up until the last couple of months of 2017 this would've been one of my top dance songs of the entire year (more of that to come..)!

Marshmello ft Khalid — Silence [16-17-14-9-3-1-2-5-14-16-18-xx]

Marshmello's debut and crowning hit, "Silence", comes in at #12. This was the beginning of a string of massive hits on my chart including "Wolves" which I can now reveal is top 10 in my 2017 End of Year chart! The masked producer has only had a handful of chart entries but every one of them has been insanely huge - in fact "Happier" has just spent it's 17th week in my chart. Khalid is also a big hitter here albeit with less of a guaranteed hit status with all but one of his songs sneaking into the top 20. This song is still amazing tbh, it carried on getting plays from me well into the new year and would've likely spent a long time in the #21-#50 range had my chart been that inclusive.

Chart History (to December 2018)

Marshmello

2017 Silence (feat. Khalid) [1]

2017 Wolves (with Selena Gomez) [2]

2018 Friends (with Anne-Marie) [1]

2018 Everyday (with Logic) [7]

2018 Happier (with Bastille) [1]

Khalid

2017 Rollin' (with Calvin Harris & Future) [20]

2017 Silence (with Marshmello) [1]

2017 1-800-273-8255 (with Logic & Alessia Cara) [4]

2017 Homemade Dynamite (with Lorde, SZA, & Post Malone) [5]

2017 Thunder / Young Dumb & Broke (Medley) (with Imagine Dragons) [16]

2018 Location [2]

2018 Love Lies (with Normani) [3]

2018 Lovely (with Billie Eilish) [3]

2018 Youth (with Shawn Mendes) [6]

2018 This Way (with H.E.R.) [11]

2018 Ocean (with Martin Garrix) [22]

2018 Eastside (with Benny Blanco & Halsey) [1]

2018 Better [5]

2018 Suncity (feat. Empress Of) [20]

I actually quite liked Rich Love, SeeB still had it back then! What Do You Love is my favourite of theirs (I'd recommend if you hadn't heard), I was hoping that they'd be able to get a third winter smash in my chart in a row after WDYL and Cruel World but Grip seems like the end of the road for them

Disciples — On My Mind [5-3-1-3-5-8-8-14-17-xx]

The second #1 ever in my chart comes from Disciples with "On My Mind" just missing out on a top 10 placing! I was obsessed with this for a long time so the fact it 'only' spent one week at the top is a bit surprising looking back but it was a busy time of the year. This was a standout dance hit from last year that I'm so glad managed to find some commercial success - not nearly as much as it deserved but better than none :P

Chart History (to December 2018)

2017 On My Mind [1]

2017 Jealousy [9]

Now all that remains is my Top 10 Singles of 2017! I've dragged this on way longer than I wanted which is just a sneak peak of what the 2018 one will be like tbh, hopefully I get this finished by/on Monday but no promises x

The 10 songs yet to come... (alphabetically)

Rita Ora — Anywhere

Bakermat ft Kiesza — Don't Want You Back

Portugal. The Man — Feel It Still

Craig David ft Bastille — I Know You

Lauv — I Like Me Better

NF — Let You Down

Dua Lipa — New Rules

The Killers — The Man

Avicii ft Sandro Cavazza — Without You

Selena Gomez & Marshmello — Wolves

That list doesn't look very alphabetical to me. :P Yes for Disciples finishing nice and high though and Avicii still to come!

Craig David ft Bastille — I Know You [3-2-2-1-2->]

The unluckiest song in this countdown still manages a top 10 position despite having it's chart run chopped up between two years, "I Know You" having spent only 5 of it's 16 weeks on my chart in 2017. This song was an instant hit on my chart and began a string of now 3 #1 hits for Bastille - Craig David on the other hand has basically disappeared aside from his two features on Bastille's latest mixtape. Craig David's album was a big disappointment really in fact I can't remember any of it other than this standout song. A shame really because he's released some great stuff in the past but I suppose it's to be expected when you're as trend/hit-chasing as him  Even if the song is more Dan Smith than Bastille it's still a tune that is regularly (sort of) getting plays from me even now. I kind of consider it more a 2018 song than a 2017 one even though it peaked in 2017, but it will also be showing up in the 2018 End of Year :kink:

Bakermat ft Kiesza — Don't Want You Back [2-1-1-2-5-8-20-xx]

Now for the luckiest song in this countdown! I was surprised to see this so high too but it's still a great song, if not quite top 10 of the whole year. I actually don't have much to say about this... it's a decent dance song :kink: It also marks the only song within the top 10 where neither artist has had any other chart entry (and also one of the few within the top 20/30). I really loved this when it was first released but as you can see by it's AWFUL chart run I got tired of it pretty much instantly. Bakermat's "One Day" and Kiesza's "Hideaway" are leagues ahead of this though

The Killers — The Man [4-1-2-2-5-8-18-20-19-xx-11-16-xx]

Banger *.* The Killers made their big comeback last year with "The Man", a song about lead singer Brandon Flowers' cocky personality from earlier on in the bands career. This instantly became one of my favourite songs from them as seen in the bands' rate I hosted earlier this year #plug :kink: Their album was one of my favourites from last year and also spawned the hit "Run For CoveR" which I talked about earlier when it came #20 in this countdown.

Lauv — I Like Me Better [10-10-9-6-5-3-1-3-5-8-13-14-15-xx-25-34-xx]

One-hit-wonder turned serial hit-maker, here is Lauv's debut on my chart "I Like Me Better" at #7. It spent an impressive 10 weeks in the top 10 including one week at the summit. This was a fairly big hit over here in Australia - every radio station hammered it for months on end and it was a great streaming song too. Unfortunately Lauv hasn't been able to find another #1, nor another song as good as this one, but he's come close a couple of times :P His most recent single only made it to #27 despite the Julia Michaels feature which I'm pretty sure was just a half arsed attempt to grab a hit following on from Julia's success on Noah Kahan's "Hurt Somebody" basically this entire year (literally, it's officially peak in Aus isn't nothing special but my god everyone would agree it feels so much bigger than what it actually is). Oh well, maybe next year Lauv!

Rita's first and only #1 to date, "Anywhere" was huge here last year and is my favourite track of hers ever released I think. She's had quite a few #2-peaking singles including "Let You Love Me" just a few weeks ago. Funnily enough Rita is also the artist of possibly one of my least favourite songs of 2018, that awful mess "Girls" with Cardi, Bebe, and Charli.

Selena Gomez & Marshmello — Wolves [2-2-2-3-2-3-5-7-14->]

Some interesting (sort of) trivia about how much I was enjoying music during this time last year and how my chart changed at the same time, both "Wolves" and "Anywhere" occupied the top 2 positions along with NF's "Let You Down" at #3 which is still yet to come in the countdown. "Wolves" helped to solidify Marshmello's presence in my chart as a hit maker which is a reputation he continues to hold right into 2019. Selena has been less consistent although that's partly due to her just not really releasing anything - other than the 13 Reasons Why soundtrack single and an odd collaboration with DJ Snake, Ozuna, and Cardi B.

NF — Let You Down [1-1-1-3-4-10-8-7-8-11->]

Last in the trio of songs here that were all hits basically one after another and briefly at the exact same time! NF's "Let You Down" is here at #4 and still sounds incredible to me tbh. Much like many other songs from December last year this kind of fizzled out after Christmas as an influx on new songs came about in the New Year and pushed everything away. Not that it affects it's position here though, with an incredibly healthy chart run really for 2017 :P NF disappeared from my chart for nearly a year until his single "Lie" managed to make it to #39, not too impressive but better than nothing and stops him from going down as a one-hit wonder

Chart History (to December 2018)

NF

2017 Let You Down [1]

2018 Lie [39]

The top 3 will be revealed later: (alphabetically, by artist title :kink:)

Avicii ft Sandro Cavazza — Without You

Dua Lipa — New Rules

Portugal. The Man — Feel It Still

Also I'll be opening the 2018 EOY thread tomorrow maybe and I'll be including albums and maybe other stuff leading up to the top 200 songs (which will start the day after Boxing Day, hopefully, and be more consistent than this )

The Man, Anywhere and Wolves are all great (Anywhere will be high up my 2018 EOY) and good to see Avicii in the top 3!
