December 7, 20186 yr Yes Sam Fender! He was the one I'd heard the most. If you don't know him, check out Dead Boys or Poundshop Kardashians.
December 7, 20186 yr I’ve played quite a lot of Sam Fender over the last couple months, so this is good news.
December 10, 20186 yr Sound of 2019 longlist: Dermot Kennedy Ella Mai Flohio Grace Carter King Princess Mahalia Octavian Rosalía Sea Girls Slowthai Some great names from those that I've heard of! Good to see a strong female representation including Rosalía! :o
December 10, 20186 yr Pretty poor lineup other than Sea Girls and King Princess for me. I think Dermot Kennedy will win.
December 10, 20186 yr Fantastic (and very unexpected!) to see ROSALÍA on there  such a promising artist, I need her to blow up while the Latin trend is still here. She must be the first ever non English language artist to make a Sound of... list? The BBC article said she's the first Spanish speaking artist to do so at least. A little disappointed at the lack of BROCKHAMPTON but ah well! Not super familiar with anyone else on there but Ella Mai and Flohio are cool from what I've heard (2 songs and 1 song respectively :P) and I've seen the name slowthai around, need to check him out.
December 10, 20186 yr I'm gutted that they've reduced the longlist to only 10 now, as I particularly enjoy delving into the catalogs of the artists the BBC recommend in this poll. In any case, other organisations have produced lists of their own - thought they might be of interest to others. December 10, 20186 yr Yes for Ella Mai and Mahalia. Need to listen to the others this month. And yeah, SLlewellyn, I too am gutted that they have reduced the longlist to 10.
December 10, 20186 yr The BBC seem to continually go very leftfield for their choices these days.. anyway my big tip probably is L Devine in terms of hitting the big time.
December 10, 20186 yr Dermot Kennedy will win this - reminds me of Rag & Boneman or Tom Grennan - fairly mor!
December 10, 20186 yr Dermot Kennedy will win this - reminds me of Rag & Boneman or Tom Grennan - fairly mor! Tom Grennan wasn't shortlisted, and they went with Sigrid over Tom Walker last year; I wouldn't say winners are normally 'safe'. I think Sea Girls are shoe-in for a top 5 placing though, if only because they are the only band and sound like they could be really big with radio backing!
December 11, 20186 yr Ella Mai seems odd considering she's already made it essentially but in the US and had a Top 20 album here, I'm not too sure she's too focused on the UK market. Mahalia could do well, but probably only as an albums artist.
December 11, 20186 yr MTVGlowie Ohhh she's Icelandic! Didn't know she was getting hype outside of Iceland!
December 11, 20186 yr Ohhh she's Icelandic! Didn't know she was getting hype outside of Iceland! Grimmy played "Body" on his show last week which has encouraged me to add it to my playlist
