40: Space Monkey

Taken from the album Meds http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDFLOOR26.JPG

We kick off the top 40 with a track from the recent album Meds. This is very different from anything Placebo have done before, very atmospheric and those distorted vocals are a great effect. Also worth checking out is a very nice remix of this track by Timo Maas.

As this track doesn't have an official video, here is a live performance:

'Nancy Boy' b-side

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v59/alan_the_evil/Placebo-NancyBoy1.jpg

I love this b-side, quite an uptempo number with some cutting edge lyrics. I've only recently discovered this one so I think I can get to like it more over time.

Favourite line from song: "Dripping sex from every pore"

Taken from the album Placebo http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDFLOORY2.JPG

This is a delightful number from the band's debut album. Irresistably catchy guitar riffs and minimalistic lyrics which are apparently about a dildo.

37: Because I Want You

Taken from the album Meds. UK chart peak #13 http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CDFLOOR26.JPG

This was the lead UK single for the recent album Meds, back in March. This is probably my least favourite Placebo single ever, it's Placebo by numbers and in my view the minimalistic chorus doesn't work quite as well on this as tracks like 'You Don't Care About Us' and 'The Bitter End'. Still, there's something about it I quite like, and that lands it at #37 in this countdown.

'36 Degrees' b-side.

This b-side is a gorgeous accoustic number from their early days, I think it may be a cover but I can't be certain. Unfortunately there is no video available on YouTube for this one, so you're just gonna have to take my word for it. ;)

This is a mid tempo number from the debut album. A great little track with some muffled vocal pieces.

Favourite line from song: "He spends the afternoon between your thighs, how's that for gratitude?"

This was the second single from the recent album Meds, released in June this year. I personally think they made a big mistake releasing this, but it's a cool track!

Favourite line from song: "I came down to wish you an unhappy birthday"

This was the most recent single, released just a few weeks ago. Again, it's a brilliant track that's quite different for them and it shows off Brian's vocal ability nicely, but I can't help but feel it has a little something missing that I can't quite put my finger on...

Now this I love. A beautiful ballad and it really moves me. I love the trip-hop sound the album version has, it's really powerful.

Favourite line from song: "Leave me bleeding on the bed, see you right back here tomorrow for the next round"

Another moving album track from Meds, Brian really gives it his all on this track. My only gripe is, I can sometimes find the chorus a bit grating.

As this track has no official video, here is one someone made with a montage of Placebo pictures:

I love this topic!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Can't wait to see top 10! :cheer:

I'm a bit suprised because Twenty Years, Black Eyed and Follow The Cops Back Home aren't in your top 40 Aly... I really love them.

Anyway, I don't know that much songs of Placebo, as you do, so you probably right. :)

Can we predict your top 10 Aly?

I'll maybe guess 2 or 3 songs...

Into the top 30 we go, and this has a peculiar title I know. I can't describe what it is I like about this song, it is again Placebo by numbers. I suppose it's great to rock out to.

There is no video for this on YouTube unfortunately, not even a live performance.

This track from the band's second album is a classic. The parts of the song that make it for me are the "don't let me down..." parts, and the outro guitar riffs, which are perfection.

'Bruise Pristine' b-side:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v59/alan_the_evil/Placebo-BruisePristine.jpg

This b-side is an accoustic ballad from their early days. Brian's voice TRULY shines on this beautiful number. There is no performances or anything of this on YouTube, but you MUST hear this track if you can.

I think that in your top 10 will be Bruse Pristine, Nancy Boy, Every You Every Me, Pure Morning, Song To Say Goodbye, This Picture... Am I right? :D

This was the 4th and final single from the band's fourth album Sleeping With Ghosts. This track experiments a lot with electronic sounds, creating a track that is totally fresh and different. I prefer the album version of this, to the single version, video version and the version that features on the Once More With Feeling collection. I hate the video though.
